Neptune is the 8th planet from the sun located 2.8 billion miles away. It takes 10 years to reach Neptune, which is composed of liquid rock and gases in four layers, including an inner core of rock surrounded by water, ice and methane. Voyager 2 is the only spacecraft to have visited Neptune, taking over 9,000 photos in 1989 after passing Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus.
