Overview Of Administering The Fmla Manual
1. ADMINISTERING THE FAMILY AND MEDICAL LEAVE ACT (FMLA)
Employers are faced with daunting compliance challenges as they attempt to administer the
complexities of the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the changes in the regulations that
became effective January 16, 2009, and subsequent changes resulting from the National Defense
Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2010 (NDAA) that was signed into law on October 28, 2009.
This manual was written to provide an understanding of the FMLA through a review of pertinent
topics in the regulations. Suggestions for administration of the Act in the workplace are also
included as part of the contents.
Some of the information in the manual has been incorporated directly from the regulations.
There are also numerous sections that are listed and referenced in the materials to provide
assistance in the event that further research of the topics is needed.
The approximately 75-page manual covers the following topics:
• Purpose of the Manual
