You are more than welcome to read another
book you located from…
• Your classroom teacher
• The public library
• A friend or someone you know…
• Ask Ms. Beebee because she (I) may be able to
get a book from another library!
9. What are the expectations?
• 6th grade fiction/non-fiction project for Language Arts-
• choose a fiction book-Title due date: 08/29
• What is the theme of the book? What is it really about?.... Class brainstorm definition
• As you read use the narrative elements page to take notes…class model ‘how’
• Once you know your theme YOU must find a way to REPRESENT IT!...class idea chart
• MAKE A PERSONAL CONNECTION TO BOOK, CHARACTER, THEME, ….class connection examples
• Summarize the book by using your narrative elements notes…Ms. BB model’s ‘how to’
• Present your work to your classmates-[Mock presentation by Ms. BB]
• Receive a grade from your teacher for reading, writing, presentation.
• Celebration Day! We can decide who to invite!

Find a fiction book to read. As you are reading think about the theme/subject [the whole point of the story] and write it down. Is it about family? Relationships? Orphans, foster care? Death? Old age? Ghosts? What is the theme of the book.

Students will receive a grade based on notes taken using the Fiction Elements organizer or one that has very similar elements they created. Each step will be modeled and practiced with much guidance. Students will keep work in folders and transfer some work to the PowerPoint as each step is edited and complete.
