2. Target Audience- Full Description
My target audience;
both male and female teenagers, between
and including the ages 17-25
appreciate music other than charts hits
attend festivals most/ each year
3. Main Image (Front Cover)
A teenage girl aged 17-years-old
represents the younger aged audience as they can relate to
her
even if you are a boy you will recognise girls like the girl on
the front cover (and double page spread)
Direct address
captures the audiences eye/ attention and draws them into
the magazine
Clothes
casual denim dress and parka jacket could both be seen as a
‘mod’, of which fashion occurred in the 60’s; this is now an
‘indie’ fashion style
4. Main Image (Front Cover) cont'd
Hair and Makeup
the dip-dye is in keeping with current trends, especially
among my target audience (males and females at the ages
of 17-25 years)
standard makeup illustrates because ‘Frankie Rox’ is an
ordinary girl
Mise-en-scene
outdoors is relevant to the winter issue which it is
denotes mud which connotes festivals; my target audience
will regularly attend festivals and will recognise this
connection
5. Target Audience- Images
The images of ‘Frankie Rox’ represent my target
audience because of the young girl; she is ordinary and
looks like another girl
‘Frankie Rox’ wants to be shown as an orthodox teenage
girl because she just wants people to concerntrate on
her music
Images of gigs on the contents page are relatable to the
reader of the magazine because they represent what you
actually see when you are at a gig
The gigs shown are Jake Bugg, Spector and The xx; the
reader may hopefully recognise some of these
6. Target Audience- Coverlines
‘Jake Bugg has seen it all and is not afraid to tell’
relevant to the age of the target audience as Jake Bugg was
born February 28, 1994 (age 19); this is amongst the years the
audience were born
‘seen it all’ is an intertextual reference to one of him songs,
which the reader will hopefully pick up on
‘Win IOW tickets’
Isle of Wight festival is referred to as quite an indie festival
this ties in with the fact the target audience like going to
festivals and gives them a chance to pursue this
‘Pete Doherty’s Spring Plans’
Pete Doherty is a different artists with a required taste to him;
he is not that well known. Having said this my target audience
will know who he is because they choose to listen to him
creations
7. Challenge or Support?
The image supports dominant ideas about my
magazines target audience
there is no instrument in the image to show, when it
comes down to it, ‘Frankie Rox’ is no better than the
reader; we are all equals
also, with no instrument the audience does not feel
intimidated
This challenges certain conventions of music
magazines because there is no instrument show,
but this is in a positive way because the singer
and magazine wants to reader to feel welcomed
