7. Oedipal complex:
The Oedipal complex is a term
used by Sigmund Freud in his
theory of psychosexual stages
of development to describe a
boy's feelings of desire for his
mother and jealously and
anger towards his father. He
views his father as a rival for
her attentions and affections.
The Oedipal complex occurs
between the ages of three and
five.
8. “My Oedipal complex”
In the beginning, the young boy, LARRY displays signs of
excitement and contentment when his father arrives
unexpectedly on his visits from the war.
The day his father came home from the war everything changed
for Larry.
This is the first time in his life without having the full attention
of his mother and for the first time in his life he feels neglected.
Larry develops a hatred for his father.
9. “But, Mummy, couldn’t God make another war, if He
liked?”
“He wouldn’t like to, dear. It’s not God who makes wars,
but bad people.”
“Oh!” I said. I was disappointed
about that. I began to think that God wasn’t
quite what He was cracked up to be.
