1. Audience Research Summary
My audience research taught me many things about the target audience for rock/indie magazines:
· The questionnaire told me that the audience are mainly between 13-20 years old
and is a mixture of male and female. This means I will try and have an informal mode
of address through language choices (slang, text speech, etc) to appeal to the
younger audience who will be reading my magazine as they won’t want to read
something very formal with words they don’t use in everyday life.
· The age of the target audience also influences what text they prefer. They like sans
serif because they feel it is more modern. This means that I will also use mainly sans
serif fonts on my magazine so that it will appeal to the target audience and keep it
looking fresh and modern.
· A lot of the target audience who did the questionnaire said that they played a
musical instrument – mainly guitars and some drummers. I will try and incorporate
drums and guitars into the magazine (maybe through images) so that the people
who play that instrument will be intrigued and want to look at the magazine.
· They also want to see the conventional rock colours on a rock/indie magazine. These
colours are black, red, white, and grey, which I shall incorporate into my magazine to
convey that my magazine is clearly for rock/indie music.
· I have learnt that the target audience like to see a lot of interviews with bands and
reviews so I will have coverlines on the cover saying that there is ‘exclusive
interviews’ and ‘top 10 new albums’ so that the content that the target audience
wish to see will be on the cover so they want to buy the magazine.
· They also want to see images of the whole band and lots of live pictures from
concerts so I will appeal to them by putting these sorts of pictures on the cover,
contents page, and the double page spread.
· Because they are young and like an informal mode of address, I will make the front
cover quite cluttered so that there are lots of aspects to the page which will appeal
to them.
