example of inappropriate use of cell phones by students at schools.
b) This is said by Monica‟s mother. She says this to highlight the potential dangers of the

c) Monica‟s father thinks that video games are enjoyable when played for a reasonable

d) Cell phones, video games and the Internet are all examples of technology. Monica‟s
mother doesn‟t want Monica using these devices of technologies because she is worried that
they are dangerous or bad for Monica. On the other hand, Monica‟s father thinks that Monica
should use the technology because it is useful and fun.
e) I don‟t support Monica‟s mother‟s concern about using technologies such as the internet,

be taught about using technology responsibly before they are allowed to use it.

My Most Favourite Song
There are many songs that appeal to my mind. In fact, the list of my favourite songs
is rather long. But if I am asked to choose my most favourite song, I have to mention
just one that comes to my mind instantly. The song is known as „Dhana dhanyo
pushpo bhora.” This song is written and composed by the great poet and lyricist
Dwijendralal Roy, popularly known as D.L. Roy. This is a song of patriotism which
reflects the glory of our motherland. This is one of the most beautiful patriotic songs
I have ever heard. It is said in the song that our mother land is the queen of all the
lands on this earth and it is made of dreams and enfolded with memories. The song
is a tribute to the matchless natural richness of our motherland. Throughout the
song we have vivid descriptions of the wonderful natural blessings, love and
affection that we enjoy in this land. The song ends with the yarning that this land
that nurtured us from our birth will be the place of our final breath on earth. A sense
of pride fills me when I listen to this composition. I salute my motherland as I listen
to this song. It depicts our love and respect for our own country and nation. There is
one more reason why this song is so close to my heart. I grew up listening to this
song. Every time I listen to this song, I go back to my mother‟s lap and hear her
melodious voice singing “Sokol desher rani she je amar jonmobhmi”. (268 words)

Androcles

wandering about there he came upon a Lion lying down moaning and groaning. At first
he turned to flee, but finding that the Lion did not pursue him, he turned back and went up
to him. As he came near, the Lion put out his paw, which was all swollen and bleeding,
and Androcles found that a huge thorn had got into it, and was causing all the pain. He
pulled out the thorn and bound up the paw of the Lion, who was soon able to rise and lick
the hand of Androcles like a dog.
Then the Lion took Androcles to his cave, and every day used to bring him meat from
which to live. But shortly afterwards both Androcles and the Lion were captured, and the
slave was sentenced to be thrown to the Lion, after the latter had been kept without food
for several days. The Emperor and all his Court came to see the spectacle, and
Androcles was led out into the middle of the arena. Soon the Lion was let loose from his
den, and rushed bounding and roaring towards his victim. But as soon as he came near
to Androcles he recognised his friend, and fawned upon him, and licked his hands like a
friendly dog. The Emperor, surprised at this, summoned Androcles to him, who told him
the whole story. Whereupon the slave was pardoned and freed, and the Lion let loose to
his native forest.
Gratitude is the sign of noble souls.

Dear Rayhan,
Hope you are well by the grace of Allah. I got your letter two days ago. In
your letter you wanted to know my aim in life.
You know different persons have different aims. Some want to be engineer,
some want to be doctors, some want to be teachers or some want to be
pilots. My aim in life is to be a pilot. There are some reasons for choosing
this profession. In my boyhood I had a dream to fly in the sky. This dream is
still in my heart. Flying in the sky is an adventure to me. It gives a man
freedom and excitement. I like it. I also like to travel. Travel gives
opportunity to visit new countries, see new people and culture. Moreover,
this profession is prestigious. So, I decided to be a pilot. My parents like
this profession too.

for three days. She has a temperature and a cough and she feels
pains all over her body. She doesn’t have an appetite and can’t
take anything except fruit juice. Alisha goes to the doctor. The
doctor asks Alisha questions to know about her illness. Hearing
everything, the doctor doesn’t prescribe any medicine but suggests
Alisha to take rest for one week and have enough fluid. Write a
short dialogue that Alisha might have with the doctor. 10
Ans. to the Q. No– 12
A dialogue between Alisha and a doctor.
Doctor : Hello, What seems to be your problem?
Alisha : I have a temperature and a very bad cough.
Doctor : How long has this cough been bothering you?
Alisha : I think, for last 3 days…
Doctor : Right. Do you have any other problems at this moment?
Alisha : I have terrible ache all over my body.
Doctor : Do you have any history of back pain?
Alisha : No, this is the first time.
Doctor : Ummm…. So, what are you having in your meals now?
Alisha : In fact, I can‟t eat anything now. I don‟t have any appetite. I had some fresh
juice and one or two biscuits this morning, and a cup of lemon tea….that‟s it.
Doctor : Listen, you have had a bad flu. In fact, many people are having flu these days.
Alisha : Are you going to give me any medicine?
Doctor : No. I don‟t think you need medicines at this stage. All you need is complete
rest. And try drinking enough fluids….like orange juice. You can also drink hot
coffee or soup.
Alisha : But how long do I need to be at home? My school exam is due next month.
Doctor : Don‟t worry. You can join your classes, hopefully from next week.
Alisha : Thank you doctor for being so nice with me.
Doctor : You are welcome. (233 words)

  • 25. Ans. to the Q. No– 8 My Most Favourite Song There are many songs that appeal to my mind. In fact, the list of my favourite songs is rather long. But if I am asked to choose my most favourite song, I have to mention just one that comes to my mind instantly. The song is known as „Dhana dhanyo pushpo bhora.” This song is written and composed by the great poet and lyricist Dwijendralal Roy, popularly known as D.L. Roy. This is a song of patriotism which reflects the glory of our motherland. This is one of the most beautiful patriotic songs I have ever heard. It is said in the song that our mother land is the queen of all the lands on this earth and it is made of dreams and enfolded with memories. The song is a tribute to the matchless natural richness of our motherland. Throughout the song we have vivid descriptions of the wonderful natural blessings, love and affection that we enjoy in this land. The song ends with the yarning that this land that nurtured us from our birth will be the place of our final breath on earth. A sense of pride fills me when I listen to this composition. I salute my motherland as I listen to this song. It depicts our love and respect for our own country and nation. There is one more reason why this song is so close to my heart. I grew up listening to this song. Every time I listen to this song, I go back to my mother‟s lap and hear her melodious voice singing “Sokol desher rani she je amar jonmobhmi”. • 26. Ans. (268 words)

  • 31. Ans. to the Q. No– 9 Androcles A slave named Androcles once escaped from his master and fled to the forest. As he was wandering about there he came upon a Lion lying down moaning and groaning. At first he turned to flee, but finding that the Lion did not pursue him, he turned back and went up to him. As he came near, the Lion put out his paw, which was all swollen and bleeding, and Androcles found that a huge thorn had got into it, and was causing all the pain. He pulled out the thorn and bound up the paw of the Lion, who was soon able to rise and lick the hand of Androcles like a dog. Then the Lion took Androcles to his cave, and every day used to bring him meat from which to live. But shortly afterwards both Androcles and the Lion were captured, and the slave was sentenced to be thrown to the Lion, after the latter had been kept without food for several days. The Emperor and all his Court came to see the spectacle, and Androcles was led out into the middle of the arena. Soon the Lion was let loose from his den, and rushed bounding and roaring towards his victim. But as soon as he came near to Androcles he recognised his friend, and fawned upon him, and licked his hands like a friendly dog. The Emperor, surprised at this, summoned Androcles to him, who told him the whole story. Whereupon the slave was pardoned and freed, and the Lion let loose to his native forest. Gratitude is the sign of noble souls.
