Walter Elias Disney born 5 th December 1901 in Chicago. Tried to enrol in the army but was refused due to being underage. Lied about his age and joined the red cross in 1918. He drove an ambulance in France for the red cross where he decorated it in cartoon characters. He won 32 Oscar Awards in his lifetime, more than any other person in history. Died aged 65 of Lung Cancer on the 15 th December 1966. Cremated in Forest Lawn cemetery 16 th December 1966; he was not cryogenically frozen as popular belief became due to the announcement of his death being postponed for two weeks. His funeral was attended by family and a few selected friends. Walt Disney said just before his death “” I only hope that we don’t lose sight of one thing – that it all started with a mouse.” His last spoken words before passing away were “Kurt… Russell” who he believed was the going to be the next biggest actor in Hollywood.
