This powerpoint we created as a grant proposal for development of a local marketing campaign to establish awareness about high infant mortality amongst African American women in Jacksonville.

1. Building community assets for community level intervention! The Social marketing campaign will reach all segments of the Black community, i.e. men, teens, elderly, low, middle and upper income Blacks, folks living in low income housing, church members, barber shops, beauty parlors, fraternities, sororities, civic and social organizations and businesses in the Black community of Jacksonville. We have compiled a list of business leaders, health advocates, and professionals to engage in forums and as volunteer with the Black Infant Health Community Coalition. Each volunteer will commit 2-5 hours per week to offer mentoring, blogging, counseling, at events, at-home assistance, transportation, and/or Emergency Dispatch Services via our 800# Hotline!

Create a Black Infant Mortality Reduction Resource Center to serve as an "educational clearinghouse" and provide support to those interested in improving African Americans' maternal and infant health. ** End Goal: Collective Responsibility and Healthy Choices, Identity Loop Clauses or "Social determinants of Health"

SUGGESTION - 1 out of every 5 black women giving birth in Health Zone 1 each week will be selected for a survey totaling 50 interviews from March – June to share their feelings and experiences before, during and after pregnancy. Leading topics include: - Pre-conception health, pregnancy intention, and assisted reproduction - Prenatal care and health insurance - Maternal and infant health care - Exploration of intergenerational trends that perpetuate racism, segregation, unemployment, inadequate housing, education, urban stress, teen pregnancy and even the sense of hopelessness pervasive in many African-American neighborhoods - Maternal smoking and alcohol use during pregnancy - Breastfeeding - Infant sleep position and other SIDS risk factors - Partner abuse - Survey will be supervised by the Black Infant Health Community Council. Activities include: Annual determination of questionnaire content Management of the sampling process Data management and analysis Dissemination of results among local, state government and private sector programs Education of families and health care providers on determinants of healthy pregnancy

19. MY HEALTHY BABY PLEDGE I will trust my OB-GYN and family of health practitioners to assist me in delivery of My Healthy Baby. I will promptly contact the Magnolia Project or Azalia Project during pre-conception to for risk reduction and prevention of harm to of My Healthy Baby. I will share facts and resources with my family, friends and associates to mentor them on the steps leading up to delivery of My Healthy Baby. I will practice good health habits by taking multi-vitamins daily, maintaining proper nutrition and by exercising to secure My Healthy Baby. I will strive to live a high quality of life by securing a stable job, enhancing my skill sets and establishing healthy relationships for My Healthy Baby. I will reflect on my Choices before I make them, and always think positively about the outcome of My Healthy Baby. I will read and study my Ask Sheet that offers information and provides suggestions concerning my health to ensure My Healthy Baby.
