3. KS3 Assessment MFK
Formal testing will continue
SCIENCE – 1 paper on 21/ March to include Biology, Physics and
22
Chemistry. Accelerated Science students will be doing 3 separate
papers in Biology, Chemistry & Physics during this week.
MATHS – 2 papers (3rd June –calculator and non-calculator) in addition
to a 30 minute mental maths test.
ENGLISH – Late June. Formal assessment of reading and writing, each
with a separate one hour paper.
GEOGRAPHY/ HISTORY – No formal end of year test just regular
assessment throughout the year
LANGUAGES – Start the GCSE in Year 9 and do a GCSE Assessment in
the final half term, however this is under review

12. Examination Reform
Linear Examinations – For two-year GCSE courses
beginning in September 2012, all external exams will
have to be done at the end of the course. Re-sits of
individual modules will end.
Spelling, Grammar, and Punctuation - Marks for
accurate spelling, punctuation and use of grammar will
be awarded in exams that have a sufficient written
English element – English literature, geography, history
and religious studies.
Vocational Qualifications reviewed – BTECs will now
feature an element of external assessment and

Controlled assessment - internal assessments
and not part of the exam cycle, so the timing
of these will not be affected by the change.
However, Ofqual are looking separately into
issues that schools have raised regarding the
implementation of controlled assessment.
