2. Last fall, the CTA communicated that
Mecklenburg County Park and
Recreation ("MCPR") was proposing a
67% increase in cost for use of courts for
league play, effective January 1, 2014.
3. On behalf of league players, the CTA
advocated at the Mecklenburg County
Park Commissioners meeting held on
March 12, 2013 against such a large fee
increase.
4. The CTA also continued to share
concerns about court conditions at
facilities where league play occurs and
the severe shortage of public courts in
Mecklenburg County.
5. Despite these efforts, the park
commissioners voted to approve the
67% court use increase for league play.
6. For 2014, towards fulfilling our contract
with MCPR, the CTA has decided not to
pass along the full amount of the
increased cost from MCPR to league
players registering for teams that utilize
the public park courts.
7. The court use fee for 2014 for those
teams utilizing the public courts will be
$14.00 up from $10.00 this past year.
8. The CTA continues to advocate in the
community for improvements to the
infrastructure for tennis in Charlotte
through its mission to grow the sport of
tennis in Mecklenburg County to
provide adults and youth of all ages,
backgrounds and ability levels with the
opportunity to play and learn the sport
of tennis.
