Although many
employers tend to
think that there is
a lot to gain by
having their
workers work
longer hours for
the same pay, the
truth may be very surprising to them. According to
studies, workers who hardly find or are given the time
to relax and have fun are actually likely to become
burnt out, less productive, and unhappy at work. What
you will read below are some good reasons companies
and organizations should make an effort to change the
unbalanced and extremely competitive work
environment that they have which also pressures
workers to be workaholic.
Life isn’t all about working and earning money.
Needless to say, work is very important and should be
given much importance by people, but this doesn’t
mean that it will be the only thing they should focus on.
By spending an unreasonable amount of time and effort
on your work, you allow your life to lack the kind of
balance it needs to become a fulfilling one.
Some people sayWorking way too much is stressful.
that one of their greatest motivations to work hard is
the stress they are going through. What they don’t
realize is that overworking does more damage to them
than good. Stress is known as one huge factor to cause
several illnesses. It can also ruin relationships, and can
definitely make your life very unhappy.
Achievement won’t necessarily make your life
A lot of workaholic people are careercomplete.
oriented and achievement driven. Of course there is
nothing wrong with striving to be the best, but you
should understand that whatever you achieve in your
life will not define who you are and what kind of life you
are living. There are many aspects in your life that
cannot be fulfilled by your successes at work, like the
time you spend with your loved ones, and doing the
things you are passionate about.
We all get tired,Your body needs rest to be at its best.
sleepy, and even sick because our bodies are designed
in a way that it can tell you if you need to stop. You
cannot force your mind to come up with great ideas if
you haven’t had enough sleep. You will not be as
energetic as you want to be at work also if you keep on
skipping meals just to keep up with work. It is so wrong
to think that working longer means being productive. In
fact, those who work beyond normal hours are very
likely to be inefficient and unproductive at work.
As a responsible employer, it is your job to make sure
your workers also get to enjoy their lives outside of
work. Help them understand that more than their
career pathways, their health, time with loved ones,
and personal happiness are the ones that truly matter.
It is amazing
how
professionals of
today are
looking for ways
to rediscover
their purpose in
life to be able to enjoy and feel satisfied with their jobs
or careers. This may seem as easy as simply identifying
your passion, but the truth is that even in searching for
what could make them happy, many people fail. In
many cases, the main reason is that they don’t know
where they should look. You don’t want to fail in your
career, of course, so you would definitely want to know
what mistakes people make that cause them to kill their
dreams.
1. Not doing the right thing to get what they want.
Sadly, many of us just don’t know what they want in
their careers. As a result, none of the things they are
doing seems to be in line with what they truly want to
achieve. And although some are quite sure about their
dreams, they still end up doing nothing to reach those
dreams. Well, first of all, this could be the result of
them not knowing their core values, skills and
personality. If you want to achieve success in your
career, you have to make sure you make your career
plan is based on who you are, what you believe in, and
what you can do best.
2. Giving up too soon.
No success is easily achieved and without challenges.
This is what smart people know and accept. If you have
been doing your job for a couple of years, and you think
you are not progressing professionally, planning to
change jobs should not be your only solution. Have an
open mind in assessing your current situation. Perhaps
there are valid reasons you don’t feel your career is
advancing. Talking to your employer is also a good idea
in this case just so you will know what you should do to
deserve a promotion possibly. The bottom line is you
should not give up too easily on your job and on
yourself. If instant success is what you’re looking for,
then you’re allowing yourself to fail too soon as well.
3. Being too scared of taking huge steps.
Changing career pathways is not a disadvantage at all.
As a matter of fact, it can be considered a necessity as
long as it is a calculated decision. Needless to say,
changing careers is a huge step in any person’s life that
can yield positive or negative results. Thus, not
everyone is determined enough to do it. If you keep
hesitating about switching to a field where you feel you
can excel, then you are the one who is depriving
yourself of the opportunity to succeed. Remember that
there will always be risks in all the decisions that we
make. Success is deserved by those who are strong
enough to take those risks.
For almost all of us,
the next difficult
thing to getting a job
is actually deciding
what career to
pursue. What makes
this decision very
difficult to make is the fact that a career is more
permanent or long-term than a job. Thus, we should not
be in a hurry in determining which career path to take.
The more time we spend planning our career, the more
likely we are to end up having a fulfilling one.
Factors Affecting a Career Choice
1. Aptitude
How you will choose your career path can strongly be
influenced by your own abilities and skills. If, for
example, you have always been outstanding in science
and math and you think these subjects are the easiest in
school, then you may as well go for an engineering
career. It is important that you be aware of what you
can and cannot do, and use it as a basis in selecting a
career.
2. Passion and Interests
If there is a particular profession or job that you have
always dreamed about even when you were younger,
then it must be your real passion. In deciding what
course to take in college, for instance, you can go back
to the time you were young and dreaming to figure out
what it is that you are really passionate about. Keep in
mind that a fulfilling career is one that is close to your
heart, and one that you will be happy doing.
3. Family Influences and Culture
The culture surrounding you can also have an effect on
how you are going to choose a career. In many cases,
the ethnicity or race of a person becomes a strong
determining factor for what career he or she should
pursue. The reason for this is that certain cultures give
so much importance to such professional careers as
teaching, medicine, and law. Meanwhile, your family
may also be a factor in your choosing of a career path. It
is common for many parents to steer their children to a
specific career path which they think is the best for
them.
4. Possible Income
Another factor that can strongly affect a person’s
decision on what career pathways to pursue is money.
Of course, you would want to choose a career that will
give you great opportunities for a better future in terms
of your finances. With that said, your choice will be
affected by the income potential of a certain career. But
of course, you should also find out if you will be able to
afford all the training and educational expenses
involved in pursuing such a career. By taking into
account such expenses, along with the future demand
for workers in that field, you can be smart enough to
decide whether a career is the best one for you to
pursue or not.

Why employers must not force workers to overwork
