GIL Express A User Guide
What is GIL Express? If you need a book that’s not available in our library, GIL Express lets you request books to be delivered to you from other schools in the University System of Georgia (USG). Only books can be requested via GIL Express.
Increased Access Through GIL Express, USG students, faculty, and staff have access to approximately 9 million books from 36 schools.
How do you use GIL Express?
Library Homepage Go to the Library Homepage at: www.library.gcsu.edu Click on “My Library Accounts” in the lower right corner of the screen.
My GIL Account Select “My GIL Account”. Your online GIL Account allows you to keep track of all items you have checked out from Georgia College and other USG schools.
Get Your PIN Establish a PIN From the drop-down menu, select which number you will enter: Barcode: found on the back of your Bobcat card Institution ID: 911 # Enter your last name At the bottom of the screen, select “Get my PIN”
Establishing a PIN A temporary PIN will be sent to your student email. If email does not arrive, check Junk Mail. Once temporary PIN is retrieved, return to login page and enter all information, including new PIN. Once you are logged in, you will be able change your PIN to something you can remember.
The Georgia College Catalog Look for the item in the Georgia College catalog first. Eitherhere Or Here
Checking the Georgia College Catalog If you have an exact title or the name of an author, click “Exact Search”. If you are conducting research on a topic but do not have a specific item you are looking for, you can contact the Reference Desk for research assistance: (478) 445-0979, or you can visit them on the 2nd floor of the Library..
Searching the Georgia College Catalog Enter either the Title or the Author here. Don’t forget to select “Title” or “Author”
Leaving the Georgia College Catalog If item is not in our collection, you can search the GIL Universal Catalog. Important If you use GIL Express to request a book that is available in our library, your request will fail.
The Universal Catalog Although listed in the catalog, this item cannot be requested via GIL Express. Only books can be requested. Notice that this item is owned by multiple libraries. Select this item to view the item record.
Click “GIL Express Request” to request this item. Notice that this item is owned by 3 libraries, and that none of them are checked out; this means that these items are currently available.
Logging In Select your school: Georgia College and State University Enter either your Barcode or your Institution ID Enter your PIN Enter your last name
Submitting Your Request Click “Ok” On this form, enter the number you used to log in. Then select the library where you want the item delivered.
Delivery Locations The request form defaults to your home institution as the Pick-Up location You may want to change the pick-up location: If you live closer to another USG school. For example, if you are a GC graduate student at the Macon campus, you may want to designate Macon State College as your pick-up location. If you will be closer to another USG school during the time the item will be delivered.
Reasons a Request Might Fail The item is available at the Georgia College Library. The item requested is not a book, or it is an electronic book. The item requested cannot be checked out. For example, Reference items, items on Reserve, Special Collections, etc…
Monitoring Your Account If the request is successful, click on “My Account”. Your online account will look something like this. Scroll to the bottom of the screen to see “Requests Pending”. At the far right, you can monitor the status of your request.
Important Information GIL Express requests usually take from 3-7 days to arrive. The check-out period is 28 days. You can renew items using your online account. 2 Renewals per item. Renew no later than the day before the due date. If an item is recalled by its owning institution, it must be returned.
Important Information As soon as a GIL Express item is overdue, your library account will be blocked. You can have up to 100 GIL Express books checked out at one time. You can walk into any USG library and check out books with either your Bobcat card or your Driver’s License.
Fines and Fees There are no overdue fines associated with GIL Express. If an item is more than 28 days overdue, the system will assume it is lost, and your account may show a replacement fee. As long as the “lost” item is returned, the replacement fee will be forgiven, but you may be required to pay a processing fee.
Fees for Recalled Items If an item is recalled by its owning institution, that item must be returned immediately. If this item is not returned immediately, you will be charged a daily fee until it is returned.
For More Information Visit the Circulation Desk on the 2nd floor of the Library	or Call us at (478) 445-4047	or Email us at circ@gcsu.edu
