Russian Blue Interesting Facts
1. Russian Blue Interesting facts
1 - Russian Blue is a breed of cat Descendant from the Czars
Houses!
Experts believe that this breed traveled from Russia back to Europe in ships from Archangelik in
Russia. Many of these experts believe that these cats were the royal pets of the Russian Czars. It is
quite possible actually because they have a very noble and elegant look, it is no brainier that a Czar
would want a few of them wandering around their palaces.
2 - There was a period in their history when they almost
extinct and mixed up with other breeds!
During the Wold War 2 it was very difficult to find two Russian blues to mate. Breeders were forced
to inter-breed Russian blues with other breeds such as Siameses and British short-hairs. When the
war ended, breeders united and with selective breeding they bred out all the non-Russian blue
characteristics and brought Russian blue to its original shape.

3 - The color of their eyes is Green in all Russian blue cats
The vivid green eyes is a distinct characteristic of the Russian blue breed. Most of the kittens
though don't have green eyes until they become e few weeks old. In rare cases because of the
interbreeding that we said before, Russian blues without green eyes can pop up. This is usually a
sign that your Russian shares genes with another breed as well.
4 - Their coat is not actually Blue
As with all the blue cats, the color blue doesn't refer to the blue color but to the gray color which is
the color Russian blues have at their dense coats.

5 - They can be very loving and affectionate
Because Russian blues keep their distances from people and especially strangers, there is a notion
that Russian blues are "cold" animals without emotions. This is far from truth because Russian
blues show amazing compassionateness for human emotions, the are very loving and affectionate
and love being around their owners.. It just happens that they are suspicious around strangers and
don't like to express themselves when they aren't with people who are familiar with.
4. Russian Blue Interesting facts
6 - Centuries before, they have been aggressively hunted for
the coats and this is one of the main reasons why they startle
so easily
This shyness and suspiciousness experts believe comes from the fact that they have been hunted for
their coats at some point of their evolutionary history. This hunting forced them to develop instincts
to survive and they became the quick-footed and easily startled animals we see today. Because they
are social animals once you are in, then you are the sun and the moon to a Russian blue.
