This document summarizes digital storytelling case studies created for faculty development. It discusses the goals of using case studies, how they are produced, themes covered, and results. Case studies integrate text, images, video and resources to demonstrate teaching innovations. They are used in workshops, orientations, and communities to support adoption of practices like universal design for learning. Evaluations found they significantly impacted faculty teaching and student outcomes like grades and completion rates. Lessons learned stressed the importance of formative feedback and concise clips with support resources.
Brett to take main responsibility for editing and formating of presentation. Brett to take responsibility for setup, communicating with facilitator, and kicking things off once introduced. Session Description: Digital storytelling and related technologies have evolved together in ways that offer greater authoring possibilities and exciting use scenarios for faculty development. This presentation will demonstrate how the 23-campus California State University is using online video case stories to strengthen faculty development efforts on topics critical to the teaching and learning mission of the CSU. Such topics include active learning, accessibility, and student engagement. This session will explain and demonstrate the online video case story development process, as well as how these cases are used in real faculty development scenarios at multiple CSU campuses.
Brett then Lou then a very quick poll (show of hands) of the audience as to their campus roles. As we do our respective introductions, work in a little bit about EnACT and ELIXR, as those are the main "providers" Lou to distribute EnACT and AxD handouts while Brett talks. Brett to distribute ELIXR handout while Lou talks.
Brett to cover this bullet list quickly and go to next slide.
Lou's slide Switch to browser and quickly show a case story structure and talk about it's elements: Home screen/trailer Main Story - slider screen Additional info Support Resources I am thinking I would use one of the new TCD cases or the Creativity theme module. Think UDL would be better? Lou: I'd say go with TCD, since I'll have enough emphasis on UDL. Good to feature UDL but we want them to know there is so much more via ELIXR. OK. URL to TCD Business math case: http://pachyderm.cdl.edu/elixr-stories/tcd-business-math/
Just want to show them the range of topics that will be available. Sounds good. I'll clean up and alphabetize in ppt Friday am. Will try to fit in url as well. Thanks!
Lou's slide Briefly show the Pachyderm authoring environment Maybe briefly show case story review web page.
What do you think about showing the pachy environment rather than the static slides? Good point. I just thought a quick shot of a template would let them know about the authoring support resources and would serve as quick springboard to showing an actual case. So, maybe leave one template shot here as prompt to jump to a case or simply toggle to case from How Are They Made? page Yes. that sounds good.
Added this and the next slide to show the progression from planning document, to authoring system, to published presentation. Will do them quickly and then show pachyderm live quickly. url for pachyderm 2.1 is: http://pachyderm21test.csuprojects.org:8081/
I'd like to go ahead and jump to UDL case page here, going to a couple specific cases and talking thru their elements and what has been particularly important. 1. FLC Case 2. UDL Music case Sounds good.
Brett to cover "results" related to UDL cases. Lou to cover results related to ELIXR (non-UDL) cases? For example, First Day of Class. I can do use of cases overall. Show that activity is happening and growing.
Lou will put elixr case story usage here... These are numbers for aggregate case story usage. Seems to me these are the most meaningful. Do you think the website usage is important too?
Lou's slide These are all lessons learned about case story development. I am thinking Brett should do a lessons learned from the faculty development perspective.
