The US Constitution

   By Brittan Candela
Introduction
Goals of the Constitution include:
1) Form a more perfect union
2) Establish justice
3) Ensure domestic tranquility
4) Provide for the common defense
5) Promote the general welfare
6) Secure the blessing of liberty
When and Who Wrote the
            Constitution
• James Madison wrote the Constitution, along
with the Delegates of the Philadelphia
  Convention.

• The Constitution was formed on September
  17, 1787
What led to the creation of the
             Constitution

• In 1777, the Delegates meet in New York to
discuss changing the Articles of Confederation.

• They realized they needed a whole new set of
government rules, so they created the
  Constitution.
Information
• James Madison came up with the Checks and
  Balances system

• This consists of the executive branch, run by
the president, the judicial branch, run by the
Supreme Court, and the legislative branch, run
  by Congress.
Information

• The first 10 amendments of the
Constitution came to be known as the Bill
  of Rights.
Influences of the Constitution
• Magna Carta – shows no person is above the
  law.
• Mayflower Contract – separation of church
  and state
• The Declaration of Independence – create
principle of fair and just government
Problems the Constitution Solved

• It got rid of having only one branch of
  government.

• It created a separation of power.
Limitations of the Constitution
• No branch of government has too much
  power.

• The government has to obey the laws too.
What Would I Change
• I don’t think I would change anything about
the Constitution. I like the separation of
power. It keeps things more fair so not just
one branch has all the power.
Relevance Today
• I think the Constitution is still relevant. The
rules are still the basis of our country, like they
were back when it was first created.
• I don’t think the Constitution is taken as
seriously as it used to be, though. To most
people, it is just a part of history, and they
don’t really think of it as rules and laws.
