When we returned from our road trip Life is
this week, after driving in the Too
downtown Atlanta traffic with no Short
problems at all, we crossed into To
Missouri and hit a traffic jam in St. Wait
Louis that had us crawling at a snail’s For
pace. I posted a picture of the traffic Someday!
snarl on Facebook along with the
message of frustration as we crept
along at 5 miles an hour.

Then, the Gateway to the West Short
appeared out my window – the To
beautiful, magnificent Arch – and Wait
because we were moving so very For
slowly, I easily snapped several pictures Someday!
of my favorite monument.

I posted one of the pics on Facebook To
with the comment that something good Wait
always comes out of something not so For
good. Someday!

Someone responded saying I had such To
a positive attitude and I replied – the Wait
glass is ALWAYS half full for me! For

We got home that night and in the

busyness of hooking up the camper and

moving all our travel junk from the cab

of the truck to the camper, we kinda

forgot about the mosquitoes at the

river that start their feeding frenzy at
Someday!
dusk – we just got busy and tromped
up and down the steps to the camper,
leaving the door wide open.

You can guess what happened . . . the Short
camper was suddenly home to a swarm To
of mosquitoes. Now, Bruce doesn’t get Wait
annoyed by these pesky little critters For
because THEY NEVER BITE HIM! Someday!

But, me they bite like they’ve come to a Short
banquet . . . I spent the next hour lying To
in bed, a fly swatter in one hand, my Wait
book in the other, keeping a vigilant For
watch for them to land so I could swat Someday!

As tired as I was from traveling for 10 Too
hours that day, I knew I couldn’t sleep Short
with mosquitoes buzzing in my ear. To

Finally, I closed my eyes to sleep,
grateful for the safe trip of 1400 miles.

Well, the mosquito test for keeping a To
positive attitude was nothing compared Wait
to my first day back to work. For

After working at catching up on all the Life is
emails and phone messages and piles Too
of new tasks, I left at 5:00 to head Short
home to relax by the river with Bruce. To
The first song on the radio as I drove Wait
out of the parking lot was Talking Heads For
singing “Take Me to the River.” How Someday!
perfect is that for someone who lives
right on the banks of the Missouri
River?

So, I’m driving along and enjoying the Short
unwinding feeling and just getting To
ready to ease my way into traffic when Wait
all of a sudden my car is jolted and For
shaken and I hear nasty crunching Someday!
scraping sounds.

A huge delivery van didn’t see me in my

little white Mustang convertible and . . .

well, my peaceful easy feeling suddenly

disappears and anxiety and confusion

replace it.

out of the way and I thought the big ol’ Short
van had really knocked something out To

major problems. (of course, I don’t For
know a thing about cars except how to Someday!
refuel, add oil, and fill the windshield
wiper fluid.)

My thoughts instantly switched to Short
questions about towing and mechanics To
and needing a car to get to work . . . Wait
and how would I even get home For
tonight. . . Someday!

Funny thing is, I just wrote a blog post Short
that morning about facing fears . . . To
turning the “what ifs” into “Hell YES!” Wait
And now, there were tons of “what ifs” For
pouring through my mind. Someday!

But then, the policeman showed up,

popped my trunk and found the button

to reset the fuel shut-off – that I didn’t

even know existed!

So, in spite of the damage to my sweet To
baby, there were plenty of things to be Wait
thankful for: For
Someday!



Blessing #1 – the car was still driveable. Life is

Blessing #2 – no one was hurt. Short

Blessing #3 – the driver was in a Dr. Wait
Pepper van – you know they have good For
insurance! Someday!

Blessing #4 – I learned about the fuel
shut-off.

Blessing #5 – I got home to Bruce’s To
strong arms that wrapped around me Wait
and said, “it’s all good.” For
Someday!

My glass is STILL half full! To
Wait
Always! For
Someday!

Driving home, I thought about this test Short
of keeping a positive attitude . . . and To
wished the radio had played Tom Petty Wait
singing “I Won’t Back Down,” I would For
have cranked it up and sung at the top Someday!
of my voice:
