Teacher’s Activity
A. Preliminary Activities
Stand up and let us pray. Please lead the
prayer.
Good morning, III-Universe!
Will you look for some papers under your
chairs and kindly keep them first inside your
bags.
Leaders, please report about the attendance of
your group.
Students’ Activity
(Student comes in front and leads the prayer)
Oh, Lord Jesus, we praise you and thank you
for giving us this wonderful day. Thank you
for our good health and good mind. Bless us
with our activities that we are going to have
for today especially with our lessons. May
you guide us and be the center of our lives.
All these things we pray to You. Oh, Lord
Jesus Christ, Amen.
Good morning, Ma’am! Mabuhay!
(Students do what the teacher says)
Group 1: Ma’am, I’m glad to tell you that no
one is absent in my group.
Group 2: Ma’am, I’m glad to tell you that no
one is absent in my group.
Group 3: Ma’am, I’m glad to tell you that no
Good! Now, kindly pass your assignments
forward.
B. Developmental Activities
1. Review
Yesterday, we tackled about the poem “The
Rhodora: On Being Asked, Whence is the
Flower?” by Ralph Waldo Emerson. What
have you learned from the poem?
Nice answer! To sum up the meaning of the
poem, it only tells us that all living things on
earth have an equal purpose. No matter how
you take a person or a thing for granted, still
both are created by God and have the same
reason in living. All we have to do is to
appreciate their existence.
2. Motivation
What was biggest lie that you’ve experienced
in your life?
What could be the possible effects of too
much lying to someone?
Do you still love those persons who once lied
to you?
It seems that your answers can’t be measured
by depth and all came from your heart. Those
questions I asked you deal with the song we
will listen to. It is entitled “Love the Way
you Lie” by Rihanna featuring Eminem. You
must not only listen to the song, but I want
you to feel it and understand it. But it’s better
if you also sing along with it. We are going
to answer these questions after listening to
the song. Let’s read them altogether.
one is absent in my group.
Group 4: Ma’am, I’m glad to tell you that no
one is absent in my group.
Group 5: Ma’am, I’m glad to tell you that no
one is absent in my group.
(Students pass their assignments forward)
Ma’am, we learned that all of us have our
own purpose here on earth. (Answers vary)
(Answers vary)
Ma’am, the trust of the person towards the
other one will eventually fade, and
sometimes, they will lose their care for you.
They will also think what other things you
are lying about.
Of course, Ma’am. We are only mad about
the deed. But such deed would never change
our feelings toward those persons. (Answers
vary)
Are you now ready to listen to the song?
If that is so, then let’s start.
"Love the Way You Lie"
(Rihanna ft. Eminem)
Just gonna stand there and watch me burn
But that's alright because I like the way it
hurts
Just gonna stand there and hear me cry
But that's alright because I love the way you
lie
I love the way you lie
I can't tell you what it really is
I can only tell you what it feels like
And right now there's a steel knife in my
windpipe
I can't breathe but I still fight while I can
fight
As long as the wrong feels right it's like I'm
in flight
High off her love, drunk from her hate,
It's like I'm huffing paint and I love her the
more I suffer, I suffocate
And right before I'm about to drown, she
resuscitates me
She fucking hates me and I love it.
"Wait! Where you going?"
"I'm leaving you!"
"No you ain't. Come back."
We're running right back.
Here we go again
It's so insane cause when it's going good, it's
going great
I'm Superman with the wind at his back, she's
Lois Lane
But when it's bad it's awful, I feel so ashamed
I snapped
Who's that dude?
"I don't even know his name."
I laid hands on her, I'll never stoop so low
again
Guide Questions:
1. What is the song all about?
2. What is the man’s biggest lie according to
the song?
3. Why do you think the guy always hurts his
girl?
4. Do you think the girl really loves the man
so much? Why or why not?
5. If the man asked for forgiveness, could
they recover from their happy relationship?
Yes, Ma’am.
I guess I don't know my own strength
Just gonna stand there and watch me burn
But that's alright because I like the way it
hurts
Just gonna stand there and hear me cry
But that's alright because I love the way you
lie
I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie
You ever love somebody so much you can
barely breathe when you're with 'em
You meet and neither one of you even know
what hit 'em
Got that warm fuzzy feeling
Yeah, them chills you used to get 'em
Now you're getting fucking sick of looking at
'em
You swore you'd never hit 'em; never do
nothing to hurt 'em
Now you're in each other's face spewing
venom in your words when you spit them
You push, pull each other's hair, scratch,
claw, bit 'em
Throw 'em down, pin 'em
So lost in the moments when you're in them
It's the rage that took over it controls you
both
So they say you're best to go your separate
ways
Guess that they don't know you 'cause today
that was yesterday
Yesterday is over, it's a different day
Sound like broken records playing over but
you promised her
Next time you show restraint
You don't get another chance
Life is no Nintendo game
But you lied again
Now you get to watch her leave out the
window
Guess that's why they call it window pane
Just gonna stand there and watch me burn
But that's alright because I like the way it
hurts
Just gonna stand there and hear me cry
But that's alright because I love the way you
lie
I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie
Now I know we said things, did things that
we didn't mean
And we fall back into the same patterns,
same routine seems
Maybe that's what happens when a tornado
meets a volcano
All I know is I love you too much to walk
away though
Come inside, pick up your bags off the
sidewalk
Don't you hear sincerity in my voice when I
talk
Told you this is my fault
Look me in the eyeball
Next time I'm pissed, I'll aim my fist at the
drywall
Next time? There won't be no next time!
I apologize even though I know its lies
I'm tired of the games I just want her back
I know I'm a liar
If she ever tries to fucking leave again
Im'a tie her to the bed and set this house on
fire
I'm just gonna
Just gonna stand there and watch me burn
But that's alright because I like the way it
hurts
Just gonna stand there and hear me cry
But that's alright because I love the way you
lie
I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie
(Teacher plays the song for the second time)
 Post-listening Activity
Did you like the song?
Let us now answer the guide questions.
Number one?
Very good! How about the 2nd number?
Correct. And the 3rd question?
Excellent! How about the 4th question?
Yes, Ma’am.
The song is all about the love of a woman to
her man even though she experiences
physical and emotional abuse. In spite the
pain, she still stays beside him and always
there for him.
Ma’am, the man’s biggest lie is that he says
he won’t hurt his girl anymore.
Ma’am, maybe he has a big problem and the
only person who can serve as an “outlet” is
his girl. However, it’s such a very bad action
and is unacceptable to the eyes of society.
Based on the character of the girl in the song,
I can say that she really loves the man so
much. She still there for him even though
she’s always in pain because of him. She also
doesn’t think of the pain; she thinks of her
love and their relationship.
Yes, a person who loves always forgives.
Good answer! And the last guide question?
How will you interpret the song?
3. LessonProper
A. Abstraction of Details
Let us now observe some lines from the
song.
 I can barely breathe.
 You never do nothing to hurt them.
 I still fight.
 Watch her leave out the window.
 You ever love somebody so much.
Kindly read them all.
What have you noticed about the underlined
words?
What is the word being described in the first
sentence?
Correct! How about in the second sentence?
Another correct answer! How about the third
one?
Right! And in the fourth sentence?
Very good! How about in the last sentence?
Look at the sentences for the second time.
What questions do they answer?
Even the man doesn’t ask for forgiveness yet,
the girl accepts all the painful things he does
to her. What more if he regrets all his actions
and decides to change for the better.
It's about two people who meet and fall in
love, however, as time goes on, they start to
resent each other and the man becomes
physically abusive. The woman takes it at
first, but then she tries to leave him. He
promises her that he'll never hurt her again
and he'll try to control his temper, but he's
lying. He says that if she ever tried to leave
again, he'd kill her. The woman knows that
this is all just a lie, but she keeps going back
to him because she loves him.
(Students read the sentences altogether)
Ma’am, they come before or after the words
they describe.
The word being described in the first
sentence is breathe.
Do is the word being modified in the second
sentence.
Ma’am, the word fight.
The word leave is described in the sentence.
Ma’am, the word love.
The sentences are answerable by how, where,
when, how many times, and to what extent.
You got it! Now, what do you think our
lesson is all about?
But your temper's just as bad as mine is
You're the same as me
But when it comes to love you're just as
blinded
Baby, please come back
It wasn't you, baby it was me
Maybe our relationship isn't as crazy as it
B. Discussion
We will now be watching a video clip for
you to know more about adverbs.
(Teacher plays the video clip about adverbs)
Do you understand the video clip?
Based on the video, what are the words that
adverbs modify?
Correct! According to your answer, what do
you think now is the meaning of an adverb?
In the lines from the song, what do you think
is the part of speech that they focused on? Is
it the adjective, the verb, or another adverb?
Where are the verbs and the adverbs in those
sentences?
Right! How about another adverb qualified
by an adverb?
Going back to the video, give me some
phrases containing an adverb qualifying an
adjective?
Remember class that the adverb should
always be placed before or after the word it
modifies.
Ma’am, our lesson for today deals with the
adverbs.
Yes, Ma’am.
Ma’am, they modify a verb, an adjective, and
another adverb.
Adverbs are words that modify a verb, an
adjective, and another adverb.
Ma’am, they are verbs.
Ma’am, in sentence 1, we have the adverb
“barely” that modifies the verb “breathe”;
sentence 2 includes the verb “do” qualified
by the adverb “never”; in the 3rd sentence,
“fight” is the verb modified by the adverb
“still”; sentence 4 has its adverbial phrase
“out the window” qualifying the verb
“watch”; lastly, the verb “love” is being
modified by the adverb “so.”
In the sentence You ever love somebody so
much, if so qualifies the verb love, then much
modifies another adverb which is so.
Ma’am, we have super strong, disgustingly
sweaty.
Let us have the five kinds of adverbs.
Sentence: She speaks loudly.
Where is the adverb in the sentence?
And what does the adverb “loudly”
emphasize in the sentence?
Good! To what question does this sentence
must be answered?
What have you observed in the structure of
this kind of adverb?
What do you call the adverb that tells in
which manner the action occurs?
(Teacher provides another examples)
I have here some pictures and what you’re
going to do is to construct your own
sentences using the adverbs of manner. Are
you now ready?
(Teacher flashes the pictures)
Is everything clear with the first kind of
adverb?
How about this sentence?
“The children are playing outside.”
Where is the adverb in the sentence?
What word in the sentence does it modify?
If outside is the adverb in the sentence and
playing is the verb, then what question word
does this kind of adverb answer?
If place is the main focus of the sentence,
then what do you call the adverb that tells
about place?
We can also use the adverbs near, nearby, on
the top, somewhere, etc.
(Teacher flashes pictures)
Is everything clear?
Loudly is the adverb in the sentence.
It gives emphasis to the verb “speaks.”
It is answerable by “how.”
Ma’am, it is the combination of an adjective
and –ly.
It is called us the adverb of manner. It tells us
how the action occurs.
Yes, Ma’am.
(Students create their own sentences)
Yes, Ma’am.
“Outside” is the adverb in the sentence.
Ma’am, the verb “playing.”
It answers the question where.
Adverb of place tells about the place of
action or where the action occurs.
(Students give their own sentences)
Yes, Ma’am.
Next sentence: The guest came yesterday.
When did the guest come?
“Yesterday” is answerable by what question?
If the sentence is answerable by when, then,
what do you call that adverb?
Correct. This adverb tells about the time of
action. We can use the adverbs now, then,
soon, tomorrow, today, tonight, and so on.
(Teacher flashes pictures)
Next. “They always come on time.”
Where is the adverb?
What does “always” qualify in the sentence?
How frequent do they come on time?
Based on the given example, what do you
think is the kind of adverb that answers the
question how frequent the action occurs?
(Teacher flashes pictures)
We are now down to the last kind of adverb.
For you to know it, let’s have first an
example.
She is very beautiful.
To what extent is she beautiful?
Where is the adverb in the sentence and the
word it modifies?
This adverb answers the question “to what
extent.” What do we call now this adverb?
We may also us entirely, almost, thoroughly,
too, so, etc.
(Teacher flashes pictures)
4. Application
Divide the class into two groups and we will
Yesterday, Ma’am.
It is answerable by when.
Adverb of time
(Students construct their own sentences)
Ma’am always is the adverb in the sentence.
Always qualifies the word come.
Always, Ma’am.
Adverb of frequency. It tells us how many
times the action occurs.
(Students give their own sentences)
Ma’am, very beautiful.
Very is the adverb modifying the adjective,
beautiful.
Adverb of degree states the degree or extent
to which something happens.
(Students give their own sentences)
have our activity. Representatives from each
group will act out the phrases they picked
from the box. Each contains an adverb and
the word it modifies. The group that will first
get 3 points will be the winner.

 Dance wildly
 Listen carefully
 Always late
 Going upstairs
 Seldom bite
 Eat slowly

forming the word inside the parenthesis.
Underline twice the word it modifies or
describes.
1. The children run (quick).
2. The kids are singing (harmony).
3. She loves him (tender).

Students’ Activity (Student comes in front and leads the prayer) Oh, Lord Jesus, we praise you and thank you for giving us this wonderful day. Thank you for our good health and good mind. Bless us with our activities that we are going to have for today especially with our lessons. May you guide us and be the center of our lives. All these things we pray to You. Group 2: Ma’am, I’m glad to tell you that no one is absent in my group. Group 3: Ma’am, I’m glad to tell you that no
  • 2. Good! Now, kindly pass your assignments forward. B. Developmental Activities 1. Review Yesterday, we tackled about the poem “The Rhodora: On Being Asked, Whence is the Flower?” by Ralph Waldo Emerson. What have you learned from the poem? Nice answer! To sum up the meaning of the poem, it only tells us that all living things on earth have an equal purpose. No matter how you take a person or a thing for granted, still both are created by God and have the same reason in living. All we have to do is to appreciate their existence. 2. Motivation What was biggest lie that you’ve experienced in your life? What could be the possible effects of too much lying to someone? Do you still love those persons who once lied to you? It seems that your answers can’t be measured by depth and all came from your heart. Those questions I asked you deal with the song we will listen to. It is entitled “Love the Way you Lie” by Rihanna featuring Eminem. You must not only listen to the song, but I want you to feel it and understand it. But it’s better if you also sing along with it. We are going to answer these questions after listening to the song. Let’s read them altogether. one is absent in my group. Group 4: Ma’am, I’m glad to tell you that no one is absent in my group. Group 5: Ma’am, I’m glad to tell you that no one is absent in my group. (Students pass their assignments forward) Ma’am, we learned that all of us have our own purpose here on earth. (Answers vary) (Answers vary) Ma’am, the trust of the person towards the other one will eventually fade, and sometimes, they will lose their care for you. They will also think what other things you are lying about. Of course, Ma’am. We are only mad about the deed. But such deed would never change our feelings toward those persons. (Answers vary)
  • 3. Are you now ready to listen to the song? If that is so, then let’s start. "Love the Way You Lie" (Rihanna ft. Eminem) Just gonna stand there and watch me burn But that's alright because I like the way it hurts Just gonna stand there and hear me cry But that's alright because I love the way you lie I love the way you lie I can't tell you what it really is I can only tell you what it feels like And right now there's a steel knife in my windpipe I can't breathe but I still fight while I can fight As long as the wrong feels right it's like I'm in flight High off her love, drunk from her hate, It's like I'm huffing paint and I love her the more I suffer, I suffocate And right before I'm about to drown, she resuscitates me She fucking hates me and I love it. "Wait! Where you going?" "I'm leaving you!" "No you ain't. Come back." We're running right back. Here we go again It's so insane cause when it's going good, it's going great I'm Superman with the wind at his back, she's Lois Lane But when it's bad it's awful, I feel so ashamed I snapped Who's that dude? "I don't even know his name." I laid hands on her, I'll never stoop so low again Guide Questions: 1. What is the song all about? 2. What is the man’s biggest lie according to the song? 3. Why do you think the guy always hurts his girl? 4. Do you think the girl really loves the man so much? Why or why not? 5. If the man asked for forgiveness, could they recover from their happy relationship? Yes, Ma’am.
  • 4. I guess I don't know my own strength Just gonna stand there and watch me burn But that's alright because I like the way it hurts Just gonna stand there and hear me cry But that's alright because I love the way you lie I love the way you lie I love the way you lie You ever love somebody so much you can barely breathe when you're with 'em You meet and neither one of you even know what hit 'em Got that warm fuzzy feeling Yeah, them chills you used to get 'em Now you're getting fucking sick of looking at 'em You swore you'd never hit 'em; never do nothing to hurt 'em Now you're in each other's face spewing venom in your words when you spit them You push, pull each other's hair, scratch, claw, bit 'em Throw 'em down, pin 'em So lost in the moments when you're in them It's the rage that took over it controls you both So they say you're best to go your separate ways Guess that they don't know you 'cause today that was yesterday Yesterday is over, it's a different day Sound like broken records playing over but you promised her Next time you show restraint You don't get another chance Life is no Nintendo game But you lied again Now you get to watch her leave out the window Guess that's why they call it window pane Just gonna stand there and watch me burn But that's alright because I like the way it hurts Just gonna stand there and hear me cry But that's alright because I love the way you lie I love the way you lie I love the way you lie Now I know we said things, did things that we didn't mean And we fall back into the same patterns,
  • 5. same routine seems Maybe that's what happens when a tornado meets a volcano All I know is I love you too much to walk away though Come inside, pick up your bags off the sidewalk Don't you hear sincerity in my voice when I talk Told you this is my fault Look me in the eyeball Next time I'm pissed, I'll aim my fist at the drywall Next time? There won't be no next time! I apologize even though I know its lies I'm tired of the games I just want her back I know I'm a liar If she ever tries to fucking leave again Im'a tie her to the bed and set this house on fire I'm just gonna Just gonna stand there and watch me burn But that's alright because I like the way it hurts Just gonna stand there and hear me cry But that's alright because I love the way you lie I love the way you lie I love the way you lie (Teacher plays the song for the second time)  Post-listening Activity Did you like the song? Let us now answer the guide questions. Number one? Very good! How about the 2nd number? Correct. And the 3rd question? Excellent! How about the 4th question? Yes, Ma’am. The song is all about the love of a woman to her man even though she experiences physical and emotional abuse. In spite the pain, she still stays beside him and always there for him. Ma’am, the man’s biggest lie is that he says he won’t hurt his girl anymore. Ma’am, maybe he has a big problem and the only person who can serve as an “outlet” is his girl. However, it’s such a very bad action and is unacceptable to the eyes of society. Based on the character of the girl in the song, I can say that she really loves the man so much. She still there for him even though she’s always in pain because of him. She also doesn’t think of the pain; she thinks of her love and their relationship. Yes, a person who loves always forgives.
  • 6. Good answer! And the last guide question? How will you interpret the song? 3. LessonProper A. Abstraction of Details Let us now observe some lines from the song.  I can barely breathe.  You never do nothing to hurt them.  I still fight.  Watch her leave out the window.  You ever love somebody so much. Kindly read them all. What have you noticed about the underlined words? What is the word being described in the first sentence? Correct! How about in the second sentence? Another correct answer! How about the third one? Right! And in the fourth sentence? Very good! How about in the last sentence? Look at the sentences for the second time. What questions do they answer? Even the man doesn’t ask for forgiveness yet, the girl accepts all the painful things he does to her. What more if he regrets all his actions and decides to change for the better. It's about two people who meet and fall in love, however, as time goes on, they start to resent each other and the man becomes physically abusive. The woman takes it at first, but then she tries to leave him. He promises her that he'll never hurt her again and he'll try to control his temper, but he's lying. He says that if she ever tried to leave again, he'd kill her. The woman knows that this is all just a lie, but she keeps going back to him because she loves him. (Students read the sentences altogether) Ma’am, they come before or after the words they describe. The word being described in the first sentence is breathe. Do is the word being modified in the second sentence. Ma’am, the word fight. The word leave is described in the sentence. Ma’am, the word love. The sentences are answerable by how, where, when, how many times, and to what extent.
  • 7. You got it! Now, what do you think our lesson is all about? But your temper's just as bad as mine is You're the same as me But when it comes to love you're just as blinded Baby, please come back It wasn't you, baby it was me Maybe our relationship isn't as crazy as it B. Discussion We will now be watching a video clip for you to know more about adverbs. (Teacher plays the video clip about adverbs) Do you understand the video clip? Based on the video, what are the words that adverbs modify? Correct! According to your answer, what do you think now is the meaning of an adverb? In the lines from the song, what do you think is the part of speech that they focused on? Is it the adjective, the verb, or another adverb? Where are the verbs and the adverbs in those sentences? Right! How about another adverb qualified by an adverb? Going back to the video, give me some phrases containing an adverb qualifying an adjective? Remember class that the adverb should always be placed before or after the word it modifies. Ma’am, our lesson for today deals with the adverbs. Yes, Ma’am. Ma’am, they modify a verb, an adjective, and another adverb. Adverbs are words that modify a verb, an adjective, and another adverb. Ma’am, they are verbs. Ma’am, in sentence 1, we have the adverb “barely” that modifies the verb “breathe”; sentence 2 includes the verb “do” qualified by the adverb “never”; in the 3rd sentence, “fight” is the verb modified by the adverb “still”; sentence 4 has its adverbial phrase “out the window” qualifying the verb “watch”; lastly, the verb “love” is being modified by the adverb “so.” In the sentence You ever love somebody so much, if so qualifies the verb love, then much modifies another adverb which is so. Ma’am, we have super strong, disgustingly sweaty.
  • 8. Let us have the five kinds of adverbs. Sentence: She speaks loudly. Where is the adverb in the sentence? And what does the adverb “loudly” emphasize in the sentence? Good! To what question does this sentence must be answered? What have you observed in the structure of this kind of adverb? What do you call the adverb that tells in which manner the action occurs? (Teacher provides another examples) I have here some pictures and what you’re going to do is to construct your own sentences using the adverbs of manner. Are you now ready? (Teacher flashes the pictures) Is everything clear with the first kind of adverb? How about this sentence? “The children are playing outside.” Where is the adverb in the sentence? What word in the sentence does it modify? If outside is the adverb in the sentence and playing is the verb, then what question word does this kind of adverb answer? If place is the main focus of the sentence, then what do you call the adverb that tells about place? We can also use the adverbs near, nearby, on the top, somewhere, etc. (Teacher flashes pictures) Is everything clear? Loudly is the adverb in the sentence. It gives emphasis to the verb “speaks.” It is answerable by “how.” Ma’am, it is the combination of an adjective and –ly. It is called us the adverb of manner. It tells us how the action occurs. Yes, Ma’am. (Students create their own sentences) Yes, Ma’am. “Outside” is the adverb in the sentence. Ma’am, the verb “playing.” It answers the question where. Adverb of place tells about the place of action or where the action occurs. (Students give their own sentences) Yes, Ma’am.
  • 9. Next sentence: The guest came yesterday. When did the guest come? “Yesterday” is answerable by what question? If the sentence is answerable by when, then, what do you call that adverb? Correct. This adverb tells about the time of action. We can use the adverbs now, then, soon, tomorrow, today, tonight, and so on. (Teacher flashes pictures) Next. “They always come on time.” Where is the adverb? What does “always” qualify in the sentence? How frequent do they come on time? Based on the given example, what do you think is the kind of adverb that answers the question how frequent the action occurs? (Teacher flashes pictures) We are now down to the last kind of adverb. For you to know it, let’s have first an example. She is very beautiful. To what extent is she beautiful? Where is the adverb in the sentence and the word it modifies? This adverb answers the question “to what extent.” What do we call now this adverb? We may also us entirely, almost, thoroughly, too, so, etc. (Teacher flashes pictures) 4. Application Divide the class into two groups and we will Yesterday, Ma’am. It is answerable by when. Adverb of time (Students construct their own sentences) Ma’am always is the adverb in the sentence. Always qualifies the word come. Always, Ma’am. Adverb of frequency. It tells us how many times the action occurs. (Students give their own sentences) Ma’am, very beautiful. Very is the adverb modifying the adjective, beautiful. Adverb of degree states the degree or extent to which something happens. (Students give their own sentences)
