East Godavari is primarily an agricultural district and is among the most prosperous districts in
the state. Statistically, it is a potential hinterland for hydrocarbon reserves in the country, as
many locations in the Godavari Basin have been identified as rich sources for oil and natural gas
in the country.
In sharp contrast to the district, Surasaniyanam is one of the most backward villages. Its
population is mainly engaged in agriculture, prawn fishing and petty labour.

Micro Vendor Programme
The Micro Vendor Programme was initiated at Ravva to enhance standard of living of local
people by creating sustainable livelihood opportunities. Development of a local supplier base for
increasing local involvement in the supply chain has emerged as a win-win approach for several
progressive companies across the globe.
The initiative involved garnering potential suppliers from local people to register with Cairn and
training them in quality, safety and environmental knowledge. The aim of the initiative was to
provide more opportunities for vendors in the vicinity of Cairn’s production facility. This in turn
would create employment opportunities and be a catalyst for economic improvement in the area.
