I have chosen to create a Horror/Thriller Movie Trailer for my final project
along with a movie poster advertisement.
Synopsis of Idea
(content, narrative,
genre)
I would like to create a movie trailer in the style of a Horror/Thriller Film.
My trailer will be based around a serial killer. I want the trailer to start off
quite fast paced with the murder of a person being reported on the news.
The News reporter will say something on the lines of ‘This murder has been
linked to the same killer, marking the 5th murder’ whilst the news is being
reported we will get flashes of the killer and the victim. After the trailer will
slowly become more dark and scary. The trailer will have a main Antagonist
and rather than having a main Protagonist, there will be numerous people in
the trailer as the story is based around a serial killer.
Target Audience?
(demographic NOT
age range)
Target Audience
Needs?
The demographic for the trailer would be aimed at any Gender Teenagers
and Adults who enjoy this Genre of film.
Being in the style of a horror/thriller, I would need to create Jumps, thrills
and scary scenes.
Some scenes would be shot in the evening to make the viewer on edge as in
the typical horror/thriller films the scary events take place in the evening.
The target audience would expect this due to the Genre of the Trailer.
A lot of the night scenes will be shot in the morning or late afternoon and
then edited to make it appear to be the night time. (Day for Night).
How will your project
meet the needs of
your target audience?
(Make reference to
content you think will
appeal to your target
audience)
If my idea is completed in the way that I see it, the trailer will leave people
guessing and wanting to watch the film. I want to include the conventions
that create fear in these types of films such as: isolated places, scary houses,
interesting/scary characters.

What production
techniques will you
use to realise your
project?
I will be watching trailers that inspire me. I will be watching them to see
how they are put together, what transitions they use and the different
camera angles that are used. Another thing I have to look for is locations to
shoot the trailer creating location sheets.
I will also have to consider making a script dependant on whether there is
going to be a lot of speaking involved. I would need to consider incidents.
I will need to look for sound effects and a main music track which I could use
in the trailer.
The trailer will be shot using a camera and the edited using premiere pro
and after effects. I will then upload it to YouTube for it to be viewed.
