6. Clothing Rules and General Guidelines
WHAT IS OUR LITTLE MISS LOOKING FOR?
We are a natural pageant system. Inappropriate and overdone clothing and overdone
makeup is not accepted, as we want our girls to know they are beautiful just the way that
they are! Expensive designer clothing is not necessary. An age appropriate, lovely outfit that
compliments the contestant and allows them to shine is what we want to see! Our judges
will be judging the contestants ability to capture their audience. Be yourself and have FUN!
Then the Crown will be a wonderful added gift to bring home along with your lasting
friendships!
UNIVERSAL BEAUTY COMPETITION FOR BABIES THROUGH 12 YEAR OLDS
CLOSE UP APPRAISAL (INTERVIEW) ATTIRE:
A Sunday Dress (something your child might wear to church). During interview for babies 0-
3, the judges will be judging on how well you and your child work together, chaperones are
asked to tell something about their babies. During this phase of competition, you are
welcome to bring in whatever is necessary to entertain your baby. (ie: cheerios, toy, pacifier,
bottle, etc) Our judges understand they are judging babies! During interview for 3 – 12 year
olds, contestants are judged on their ability to answer their questions. There are no wrong
answers, and the questions are very simple! Close-up Appraisal/Interview is a time for the
judges to actually meet the contestants and learn a little bit about them before stage
competition begins. Little or no makeup is allowed in interview for ages 0-6.
Our Little Miss has a HANDS ON rule for 0-36 month old contestants. This is strictly
enforced. The rule is simply that you must be touching your child at all times during
competition. If your child is free from your hands while on stage, this will be considered a
violation.
Nanette Mathias, California’s State Director Phone: 559-679-9852 Fax: 559-684-1064
Email: nanette@caourlittlemisspageant.com Web: www.caourlittlemisspageant.com
7. SPORTSWEAR ATTIRE
Attire should be active or casual wear. No sequins or rhinestones are allowed, nor are skirts
or swimwear. Basic modeling only…No Pro-Am modeling is allowed in Sportswear
Competition (there is a pro-am modeling optional competition for this). Sportswear will be
judged on the contestant’s ability to present herself on stage.
PARTY DRESS COMPETITION-Short Dress
Shoulder straps must be at least 1” wide. We do not allow backless party dresses or back
of dress to fall below the shoulder blades. Keyhole openings need to be covered with a
simple piece of lined lace or other material (not sheer) to follow regulations. Remember,
while Our Little Miss does not encourage the over-done, custom party dresses, we simply
ask that you use your best judgment and do not allow the party dress to overpower your
child and keep it age appropriate. Our Little Miss judges the child! So please don’t feel an
expensive custom-made party dress is necessary!
UNIVERSAL BEAUTY COMPETITION FOR 13 YEAR OLDS AND OLDER
CLOSE UP APPRAISAL (INTERVIEW):
Attire should be Sunday Dress or Business Suit (something you would wear to church or a
job interview). The contestants will be asked simple questions to allow the judges to get to
know them. Questions will be about your community, business, or school activities. There
are no wrong answers. Contestants are judged on their ability to answer their question as
well as their poise and personality. Just be yourself!
Nanette Mathias, California’s State Director Phone: 559-679-9852 Fax: 559-684-1064
Email: nanette@caourlittlemisspageant.com Web: www.caourlittlemisspageant.com
8. SPORTSWEAR COMPETITION:
Same guidelines as 0 – 12 year olds. No Pro-Am modeling allowed.
EVENING GOWN COMPETITION:
Gowns are to be long evening gowns. No splits above the knees or low cut necklines are
acceptable. No strapless dresses. For ages 13-17, straps must be at least 1” wide. 18+
may wear spaghetti straps. Sheer fabric is treated the same as not fabric. For instance if
there is a sheer piece of fabric through the midriff area, the dress will be treated the same
as no midriff.
For All Age Groups
Playtime with The Judges/Team OLM
Playtime with the judges and Team OLM are a required part of competition. This is just a
time for the judges to observe the contestants play and interact while doing an activity. It will
only last for about thirty minutes.
The required attire for Playtime/Team OLM is khaki shorts, capris or pants, white tennis
shoes and CA OLM T-shirt, which will be provided at registration and is included in the entry
fee!

Shoe heel requirements: Ages 0-9 no taller than 1.5” and ages 10-12 (OLMP) no taller than 2”. There is
not heel regulation for ages 13 & up.
Contestants ages 13 & up cannot have any outfits with the back going lower than their waist line.
Sexy overdone clothing is not acceptable. Expensive designer clothing is not necessary.
Failure to follow clothing guidelines can cost the contestant to be awarded any of the top 4 titles.
NO Midriffs are permitted to show in any outfit for all age groups.

NO disrobing or garment removal in any phase of competition.
NO visual drawings on the body are allowed (i.e. tattoos) these must be covered!

NO extremely tight fitting gowns on older contestants.
*Our Little Miss is a Non-Glitz pageant. However, jewels, sequins, pearls etc. can be worn on Party
Dress and Evening Gowns. We ask that the adornment be conservative and allow the child to shine
first…not the dress! There is the Pro-Am Model of the Year competition for girls who would like to get
Glitzy!
Shoes worn for Playtime/Team OLM should be tennis style shoes and must be white or light in color.
Wigs/hairpieces - Fake hair is allowed for medical reasons.
Fake hair is allowed for talent presentations. No fake hair is allowed in party dress, sportswear,
interview, pro-am competition or at any casual time while on the host hotel premises. This is a violation.
False teeth are only allowed for medical reasons. This is a normal growth process and braces and loss of
teeth will not be counted against any delegate. Flippers (retainer-based teeth to cover normal childhood
tooth loss) are not allowed. This is a violation.
Coaching – 0-3 division: Simple coaching from the parent/guardian on stage is allowed but must not be
overheard by the audience/judges. Encouraging the baby petite to wave, smile or turn is acceptable but
winks, blowing kisses and dancing are not. No coaching off stage by anyone, we want to see how the
contestant does on her own. Coaching from behind or beside the judges table is not allowed. You will be
asked to stop immediately. Failure to stop will cause delegate to receive a violation.
At the pool party, only one piece swim suits are allowed.
Infractions: Infractions are simply just warnings. These are given when a rule is broken unintentionally. It is
simply just a warning. However if 2 or more infractions are given, you will not be allowed to place In the top 4.
Violations: Violations are given when a rule is directly broken. Ex: Talent going over the given time limit. If you
are given a violation, you will immediately out of the top 4.
