WHO WOULD BE THE
AUDIENCE OF YOUR
MEDIA PRODUCT?
Question 4
RESEARCH
Throughout research I kept my target audience varied and I didn’t not categorise
them due to the fact I did not know what kind of magazine I wanted to produce. By
looking closely at existing music magazines such as NME and Q magazine a good
understanding of their audiences and what they do specifically in their magazines to
target the correct audience and make it obvious that they want to specially target
that audience.
During my research and planning stage I made a questionnaire and presented the
results in my blog. I incorporated the traits from the existing media products and
used these to find out what I should add to my blog due to preference.
After this I used the successful options and used the results as a criteria to fit into.
For example, making the magazine affordable at £2.99 and incorporating festivals.
When constructing my questionnaire I made sure that the questions being asked were relevant to
get an accurate result so that I could use the results and assure that they were reliable and would
help me to gain a good and firm understanding of what the best audience would be best for my
final magazine.
INITIAL AUDIENCE
The audience I originally intended to create a music magazine for changed
throughout the production of my magazine. Originally, I wanted to a
magazine that would attract both female and male readership but as the
production increased I believe the audience targeted became or female
orientated. This didn’t happen on purpose, I feel that it just happened due to
the main act being a female pop band and my interest in female indie pop
music. I feel that due to my interest and firm knowledge in this area of the
genre my biased opinion may have swayed my choices in the production of
my magazine.
