2. This is a psychiatric disorder that causes an individual to grow indifferent
to other people. This, in turn, leads to social isolation. This is one of the
personality disorders, which are patterns of unusual behavior in an
individual. The cause is unknown at this time.
Scientists believe it might be closely associated to schizophrenia, but, it is
not as disabling. It does not cause the hallucinations, delusional behavior
or psychosis exhibited in schizophrenics. The mannerisms and traits of
the individual with schizoid personality disorder are an aloof
affect, avoidance of social activities and does not want to be close to
anyone even those in the family. These individuals are loners. Not much is
known about what treatment would be effective as these people rarely
look for help. This chronic illness does not show much chance for
improvement for that reason.
Schizoaffective disorder is a far more serious mental condition. It causes
mood disorder and disconnection with reality. This is known as a psychotic
condition.
Researcher cannot pinpoint the cause. They do think it is connected to
genetic changes and brain chemicals. Some scientists consider it to be
the same disorder as schizophrenia. Women are stricken more
frequently, but, it is rare in children.
3. Symptoms vary from person to person. The individual may look
for treatment for mood disorders, inability to perform daily
activities or thoughts that are abnormal. Mood disorder can
happen concurrently with psychosis or alone. Schizoaffective
disorder can fluctuate in severity and patients show disorganized
speech, delusions including paranoia, delusions of reference
(imagining special messages being hidden in some way), poor
personal hygiene, concentration difficulties, hallucinations, social
isolation and rapid continuous speech patterns.
