Recognizing When You Are Off Course
Neptune Uranus Leverrier predicted that an invisible planet was pulling the planet Uranus off its predicted course around the sun. Likewise, human beings are pulled off course by the invisible forces of their unconscious minds
Amygdala stores unconscious memories sometimes making us react like we are in crisis but we aren't.
Many people sabotage their goals and dreams by unconsciously choosing actions, thoughts, and/or emotions that get them off course from their goals and dreams. This can happen if we take our eye off the path for just a moment.
When inner critics and inner defenders are off course, they tend to deny it make excuses blame others give up
Creator and inner guides ask What habits do I have that sabotage my success What believes do I have that get me off course How can I make wise choices
One characteristic of Creators is that they are able to recognize and acknowledge when they are off course.
The story of Jerome Jerome was an accounting student, the story illustrates that once a person has a clear goal they can get sidetracked with work, bad relationships, partying, then Jerome crammed the night before and flunked because he was tired.
Identifying Your Scripts

  • 32. Diana, the student in a writing course, had a script from her childhood that said her brain didn’t work well. Diana was told that only half of her brain worked. So she accepted she couldn't learn or think.
  • 33. When our core beliefs about ourselves, about other people, or about the world are inaccurate, they can sabotage our success. A good core belief is I can succeed in college if I am willing to do the work and give it my best.
  • 34.   Diana’s core beliefs about her inability to think caused her to hear what she expected to hear rather than what her teacher actually said.
  • 35. Human beings can revise their limiting beliefs and change their self-defeating habit patterns.
  • 36. The parts of our scripts that are available to our conscious minds are our patterns of self-defeating actions, thoughts, and emotions. By revising these three patterns we can help revise our limiting core beliefs.
  • 37. Believing in Yourself: Write Your Own Rules
  • 38. According to psychologist Virginia Stir, we are all living by rules, though we may not be aware of them. (So become aware of the rules you have set for yourself that are holding you back so you can revise them.
  • 39. Some of the unconscious rules that we live by are helpful.
