To quote Arthur C. Clarke, “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.” Students have no idea how data travels on the Internet or how to make the most efficient use of it. How a search engine finds information or how to the results are valid are a mystery. By default they accept printed materials as fact.
Students seem to think that they are the only people on the planet that lie. They are fooled by all but the most obvious sites. Usually it is due to a lack of attention to detail which is a pervasive quality of their internet experience. Students skim at best. They need to learn to be more critical readers.
