This is a simple deck I put together to explain the components I believe are needed to create the best User Experience. This is also to help clarify what UX does and the sub-disaplines needed for the best result.
2. User Experience (UX)
Is the umbrella term for the totality of the experience created
when designing software (desktop, mobile, web).
When done well, it includes emotion, how the software “feels”,
branding, visual design, and quick and easy ways for user to
complete tasks. The overall use and enjoyment is the UX.
UX
3. UX has deep roots in physical product design, although lately
is has become more synonymous with digital experiences.
We should not forget: we are still designing products for
PEOPLE to use and interact with. Just because the tools are
different doesn’t mean the audience changes.
UX
4. User Experience (UX) Design is the
sum of 3 main sub-disciplines
interaction
design
UX
kinetic visual
design design
5. But UX is the umbrella they all live under. You need all three
working together to create a great experience.

6. interaction
design
Interaction Designers (IxD)
focus on how things work.
The structure, flow, and the
tasks that need to be
accomplished to make the
software function at its best.
7. visual
design
Digital Visual Designers (VxD)
need to understand interaction
and brand. More than just
skinning, the digital visual
design needs to inform the
concept and interaction.
8. kinetic
design
Kinetic Design (KxD) can take
many forms: from creating a
linear visual movie to generate
excitement to prototyping in real
technology to prove a concept.
This discipline must make the
work come to life.
9. Great UX = all 3 working together

as one iterative team.
