7. Dr. Martin Luther King's 50 year old speech
paraphrased....
I have a dream
that one day India will rise up and live out the true meaning of its
intent: "...that every child has a right to ... education of an equitable
quality and relevance in a school which satisfies all essential norms and
standards."
I have a dream that one day, in our schools, children regardless of social
status,or economic status, caste, or creed, will be able to learn and play
together in an atmosphere of mutual respect and affection.
I have a dream that one day every Indian school, burdened by
bureaucratic neglect and guilty of inequity, inequality and lack of
opportunity, will be transformed into safe, sensitive spaces for learning
with freedom and fairness.
8. Dr. King's speech paraphrased....
I have a dream that our grandchildren will one day live in a nation where
they will not be judged by the circumstances of their birth but by their
competence and content of their character.
I have a dream today!
I have a dream that one day, in every school and classroom, teachers
will uphold with honour, their amazing power to do the right thing for
every child, every day, and to see that no child, however
disadvantaged, misses the education that is her right.
I have a dream today!
I have a dream that one day the best young men and women in our
country, will seek to be teachers, not just for the status the profession
offers, but for the satisfaction of nurturing India's human potential.

To know about change is to
know about inertia, which
is to say that sometimes

Editor's Notes
Our Current Paradigm of Teaching
This is symptomatic of the Guru Shishya orientation of the entire education system â school as well as higher education !
But the problem is compounded by the fact that today's teachers are far less knowledgeable and wise than those from days of yore !
Apart from content knowledge and pedagogic competence Teachers' notions of morality, values, and personhood are so inextricably linked to how they teach and engage with their students.
We need our best Teachers to stay on in the classroom â specialist teachers, coaches & mentors, collaborative projects amongst teachers within and across schools
Teaching has been variously called an unstaged profession or a failed profession !
NCTL â of current and former teachers â who would prove their professional credentials....
Members selected to NCTL will need to demonstrate capability to work with students, collaborate with teachers able to network with other organisations working in education
Every school and student MUST have access to at least one brilliant/inspiring teacher
