2. What is research & planning?
• The planning involved within this task included getting
all the props we needed by the day of the shoot. It also
meant preparing a cast list and making sure they were
available and making sure our shoot day was planned,
so we knew when we were shooting what locations.
This meant that we had to plan all this in advance so
we were organised and ready for our shoot.
• Research meant that we had to investigate what props
we needed and which were more suitable for the
music video. We also had to look into which of our cast
members were available and research who we thought
was best for the part
3. Creative Decisions
• Some of the creative decisions we made were,
for example, how to link the narrative to the
performance element. We came up with a lot
of ideas for this but then decided on
headphones, that had a superhero logo on
them. However on the day of the shoot we did
not use this and instead used a superhero
vinyl sticker on the face of the DJ’s laptop. This
linked both scenes of our music video.
4. Research for our music video
• We looked at star image, so that we could create one
for our band, which were based on real similar artists,
normally involved In the same genre of music. This
included designing a similar website design and CD
digipack. There was also a music video, by similar
artists that was nearly exactly the same concept as
ours. This proved to us that our music video would
attract the correct target audience because the music
video belonged to a similar artist. We had to blog
about everything we had found and had to put more
emphasis on recognising the source of information. We
also had to add the theory we had learnt to this, by
creating a star image four our artist.
5. Why it was important
• It was important in the research and planning of my music
promotional campaign to raise awareness of the star image
to an intended target audience so that we catered to the
correct target audience. We developed the CD digipack
design so that it would be visually appealing to the correct
target audience. To do this we researched similar artists
and their CD designs and used some of the same themes
and colours. The similar artists used produced music from
the same genre as the song in our music video. My target
audience was young males ranging from 16-25. I profiled
the target audience by identifying its demographics, such
as similar artists websites and used the same colour palette
when designing ours.
7. Planning
• Planning consisted of a shooting schedule. This is
where we planned what time we would shoot
which locations and which scenes. This helped us
plan our time better when it came to the shoot
day and made sure that we were not wasting any
time.
• Considering we had to edit the animatic to the
time of the music and what order we wanted the
shots It made it a lot easier to create a shooting
schedule.
8. Conclusion
• Overall I think that the planning and research
for our music video heavily benefited us when
it came to our shoot day as we were prepared
and organised. It also made it easier to make
creative decisions as we could research and
plan what would work and decide as a group
what was best for our music video.
