• Parthenon – Temple in
Athens dedicated to
the goddess Athena.
(Greek goddess of war
and wisdom)
• Completed in 438
B.C.E.
• Parthenon has also
served as a Christian
church as well as an
Islamic temple.

• Frieze - Section of carvings between the
pediment and the architrave.
• Pediment- Flat triangular area at each end of
building
• Architrave –The lintel which stretches across the
tops of the columns
• Cornice – Border around the pediment
• Column – Vertical pole which supports the weight
of a buildings roof. In Ancient Greece there were
three types.
