           Which number in the
           article do you think is
           most relevant for you to
           follow as advice?
Procedures = Effective
 Management
Procedure: What the teacher wants done
Routine: What the students do automatically

The number one problem in the
classroom is not discipline; it is the
 lack of procedures and routines.

**Do not call a procedure a rule
 Don’t know them

 Have not been taught

 Have not practiced them-
    ◦ Show video clip #13 Tight Transitions
 Classroom procedures are statements of students expectations
necessary to participate successfully in classroom activities, to
learn, and to function effectively in the school environment.

 Classroom procedures tell a students how things operate in a
classroom, thus reducing discipline problems .

 Classroom procedures increase on-task time and reduce
    classroom disruptions.

 Classroom procedures allow many different activities to take place
efficiently during the school day, often several at the same time,
with a minimum of wasted time and confusion.
Pair/Share: Talk to a neighbor and tell them
which reason is important to you.

class period, classroom assignment notebook, website, others)
 When they exit your class
 When another adult or student walks in the room
 Explain your procedures
