2. Purpose and
Impact of
Advertising on
television.
3. Purpose of Advertising on
television
For as long as television has been around it has depended
on advertising to make a profit – this would cover the cost
of shows being aired, so advertising on television helps
both television and the company trying to sell there
products.
4. Mass Audience
Television is also very popular to all ages so adverts
would get a wide range of viewers and potential
customers and It offers the best way to get a large
amount of people at one time.
Television is also the best way to keep potential customers
informed of new products, sales and special promotions.
Example: The ‘Next’ 2 day sales are always very popular
because of there adverts on the TV.
5. Targeting Audience
Most television channels are geared towards different
groups of people with particular interests and tastes, for
example television has specific sports channels for sports
fans and children channels for young people.
So for example if a company such as Nike was trying to
sell football boots they would get more potential
customers on the sports channel than the children's
channel.
Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLtT-yEFMao
– This advert is used on the cbeebies channel and uses a
lot of bright happy colours which would attract young
children, also the jingle is happy and catchy so young
people are more likely to remember it than if it was dark
and boring.
6. Price
As television reaches greater amount of people at one
time than any other media the price is seen as a bargain
– depending on the channel, time of day and popularity of
the show.
Potential advertisers can select when and where there
commercials can go to get the most profit.
7. Other Benefits of television
advertising
Television advertising allows longer advertising
campaigns so the advert stays in the viewers memory for
longer than magazines or internet ads where the viewer
only gets a quick glance.
Television can give an instant and recognizable
consciousness of the product where as this wouldn’t
happen using the radio.
The BBC doesn’t have advertisements as the fee people
pay monthly, quarterly or all in one go called a TV licence
goes towards keeping the BBC going.
