I have heard the word 'Psychology' since I was a child, in my mind; I thought it was
just a small little unknown subject. But it is not, actually psychology is a very popular subject,
but a lot of people, including me are not aware of the many elements of this broad and
fascinating subject. In my opinion, this course provides comprehension overview of scientific
study of though and behavior. It actually help me to explore topics such as perception,
communication, learning, memory, decision making, religion , persuasion, love, lust, art,
fiction and dream. Within the field of psychology, I'm glad by getting a great introduction to
psychology courses at Taylor's University.
According to every week lesson, I find out psychology is the scientific study of
human mind and behavior. For more detail, we actually study how we think, feel, act and
interact individually and in groups. For example, on the first day of psychology class, we
were made to sit in a circle and started to introduce ourselves in front of our classmates and
lecturer. It actually was my first time to study human behavior by observing, measuring and
understanding every people social identity. I think it may concern with all aspects of behavior
and with the thought, feeling and motivations underlying that behavior. We all were so
excited and interested during that class. However, I felt it actually is a beginning to learn
psychology, which is the concept of Interpersonal relations and Group process with people
communication, emotion and relationship development, and organizational process.
On the other hand, I applied and practicing psychologists use the knowledge gained
from this research in a wide range of settings. Applied psychologists help me with all sorts of
problems, working with them to bring about change for the better. For example, it's help me
to thrive all my academic discipline especially in group decision making and task
performance, intergroup relations, and aggression, pro-social behaviour and other types of
social behaviour. This understanding can help me to solve major problems within society. In
my view, this is the best way to get success in every academic and a vital professional
practice.

“Who am I?", "How you think about yourself?” Those are the question that I had
obtained from the social psychology classes and it actually deep in my memory. I think these
are the broad questions that relate to personality and social psychologists. When
psychologists talk about aspects of personality, most agree that personality consists of the
consistent, enduring, and unique characteristics of a person. From these personality theories, I
believe these theories provide a way of organizing the many characteristic to understand
myself with other people. I realise every student in our class may be outgoing or shy, quick
tempered or calm, witty or dull, bossy or meek, fun loving or gloomy, industrious or lazy. I
actually learnt a lot from all this words are actually describing general ways of behaving that
characteristic an individual.
“I am...”, I actually found it interesting to consider how much I have explored by
understanding different people’s opinions within my classes. Some of my classmate were
described themselves in different ways and different personal traits. For example, ' I am lion',
'I am idiot', 'I am creative', 'I am a student' or ' I am psycho". All these examples basically
represent the elements of our self-concept by exploring forces within the person as well as
forces within the situation personality. I understand the specific belief by define myself and
self schemes , The social psychologists seek to unravel the mysteries of individual and social
life in areas as wide-ranging as prejudice, romantic attraction, persuasion, friendship, helping,
aggression, conformity, and group interaction.
However, I find out the personality theory may also explain about our Self servingBias. It actually often occurs when people attribute their successes to internal or personal
factors, but attribute their failures to external or situational factors beyond their control. I
recognised, it actually happen to me, but not often. For example, when I get a good grade on
an exam, I might say, "I got an A because I am intelligent and I studied hard!" In contrast,
when I does poorly on an exam, I might say, "The teacher gave me an F because he does not
like me!” I believe in term of “self-serving bias" is most often used to describe a pattern of
biased causal inference, in which honour or blame depend on whether success or failure was
achieved.

This is the latest chapter that I learnt within my social psychology class and I believe
every people have this basic component, including me, which is 'Attitude'. An attitude is "a
relatively enduring organization of beliefs, feelings, and behavioural tendencies towards
socially significant objects, groups, events or symbols" (Hogg & Vaughan 2005, p. 150). I
think this title might link with behaviour as attitude is also measurable and changeable as
well as influencing the person's emotion and behavior. I had clarify attitudes are positive and
negative evaluation of object, through social issues, groups, institutions, consumer products,
people and etc. The factors in changing attitudes are source, message and receiver. I have
learnt 3 different components in attitudes structure. Which is Affective, Behavioural and
Cognitive component?
First, I find out the affective component is involves a person's feeling or emotion
about attitude object. For example: “I am scared of cockroach". These quotes actually present
my self-expression of attitudes and help me to be aware through expression of my feeling.
Second, I had also find out the behavioral component is a attitude that may influence our act
and behave. For example: “I will avoid cockroach and scream if I see one". According to the
situation, it actually is an ego-defensive function refers to holding attitudes that protect my
self-esteem or that justify actions that make me feel guilty. The last component that I had
learnt is cognitive component which present my belief or knowledge about an attitude object.
For example: " I believe cockroach is the most disgusting insect in the world". Base in that
statement, I realise my attitudes providing the knowledge for my life as knowledge allow me
to predict what is likely happen, and so gives me a sense of control. In the nutshell, I
understand the important lesson of attitudes in psychology. Basically it is a function refers to
own inner need (expression and defence) and the outside world( adaptive and knowledge)
that help me to predict my self-behavior.
