Chapter One
                                   Demons

There is one “devil” but many “demons.”

I. The word “demon” is not found in the King James Version of the Bible.
      A. However, whenever the word “devils” are found it should be translated
            “demon.”
            1. (Matt. 8:16) “ . . . they brought unto him (Jesus)many that were
possessed with devils (demons) and he cast out the spirits with His
Word, and healed all that were sick.” 1
            2. One of the most important tools in the Church is to be able to
discern and cast out evil spirits.
            3. We are not cast out the people, only the evil spirits!2
            4. (De’munz) The modern definition of a demon as an evil spirit is
the result of a long development.
      B. The word frequently meant something entirely differently to ancient
            writers.
            1. Originally, it referred to a sort of anonymous god, operating
alongside of, but somewhat less noticeable than the major deities
                   of the ancient world.
            2. Ancient writers speak of both good and bad demons or
                   “daimones.”
            3. The Hebrew word elohim, commonly translated “god,” is
sometimes used in the Old Testament to express this ancient
                   concept.
            4. Often, when one is described as “a man of god,” the meaning is
that he possesses the ability to interpret omens, or some such
                   similar power.
            5. This ability is attributable to a divine and that this ability is
attributable to a divine power, or demon, (see I Sam. 2:27; 9:6; I
                   Kin. 12:1; 2Kin. 4:7).
II. The Old Testament also refers to the objects of pagan worship and to malign
spirits, in the more familiar sense, as demons.3
      A. In the New Testament the existence of demons, as responsible for all
kinds of disorder, is taken for granted.

                                      Page -1-
B. They are regarded as ministers of Satan, or Belial, or Beelzebub.
   1. They are expelled by invoking of the name of God and by the preaching
        of His redemptive power.
   2. They are destined to final defeat by the forces of righteousness, to be
followed by consignment to ever lasting fire.
   3. As in the Old Testament, the objects of pagan worship are occasionally
        referred to as demons. 4

Chapter Two
                    Power of The Deliverance Ministry

Jesus Christ, as presented by The Father and Jesus’ testimony is
according to the Word, “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All
power is given to me in heaven and in earth . . . ” (Mat. 28:18).

I. POWERS OF DARKNESS
      A. He is revealed as Deity with absolute sovereignty and authority for
            eternity.
            1. The devil or Satan is introduced to us as a person who opposes
God and His work. (See Gen. 3:1; Rom. 15:22).
            2. He is the “god of this world,” who blinds the minds of the people
to the truths of God’s Word (2Cor. 4:4; Eph. 2:2).
            3. Having rebelled against God, he was cast out of heaven; then he
                  caused man’s fall in paradise.
            4. Jesus calls him often as an “angel of light,” (2Cor. 11:14).
            5. Satan is seeking the ruin triumphed over him at the Cross of
                  Calvary, (IJn. 3:8).
            6. And in His resurrection, and he will finally be condemned and
                  destroyed, (Rev. 20).
II. There are many kinds of demons and they afflict people in various ways, (see
      Matt. 12:22, 17:15-18; Lk. 12:16).
      A. Also, they bring false doctrine, (ITim. 4:1-4), trying to seduce the elect
(Matt. 24:24), oppressing (Acts 10:38), obsessing, and possessing
            people.
            1. They know Jesus, and recognize The Lord’s power and tremble
                  (Matt. 8:29).
            2. For them, hell is the final destination, as it is for Satan.5
III. References concerning the stand we have to take against these powers!
     A. It is most important to realize that ours is the position in Christ, “far
above all principality, and power, and might and dominion . . . ” (Eph.
           1:21).
     B. We resist the devil (Jam. 4:7), in the whole armor of God (Eph. 6:13-
18), by virtue of the blood of Jesus (Rev. 12:11), by faith, prayer and

                                      Page -3-
fasting (Matt. 17:20,21).
     1. Jesus cast out demons (Matt. 12).
     2. He commands and expects His disciples to do the same.
     3. (Read Lk. 9 and 10, also Matt. 28:20 and Mk 16:17).
C. In Acts, we learn how the disciples exercised their authority by casting
out demons, thus magnifying the Name of Jesus! (See Acts 8:7).

Chapter Three
                            The Deliverance Ministry

The deliverance ministry is more controversial today than it was when Jesus
cast out devils.

I. The religious people of His time charged that “He cast out devils by Beelzebub.”
      (Lk. 11:13).
      A. Jesus did not have to teach the people the reality of demons.
             1. They knew about reality of demonology.
             2. However, they had problems discerning the source of his power.
             3. Jesus had compassion for His people to live above peer pressure.
             4. It is a terrible thing to see someone who is entangled helplessly
                   under the power of demons.
II. THE BEAUTIFUL ANGEL
      A. There are two passages in the Scriptures have long intrigued Bible
Scholars, and many believe they refer to Satan.
            1. Just as in the Psalms David often spoke of himself and at the same
                 time prophetically of Christ.
            2. So also Ezekiel and Isaiah, delivering warnings to evil kings, seem
under the prompting of the Holy Spirit to refer to the fall of Satan.
      B. (Ezek. 28:12-19),
            1. “Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say
unto him, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou sealest up the sum, full of
                 wisdom, and perfect in beauty.”
            2. 13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone
was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the
onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle,
and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was
prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.
            3. 14 Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so:
thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and
down in the midst of the stones of fire.
            4. 15 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast
created, till iniquity was found in thee.
            5. 16 By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of

                                       Page -5-
thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as
profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O
covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.
           6. 17 Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast
corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to
the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.
           7. 18 Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine
iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth
a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring
thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee.
           8. 19 All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at
thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more.
III. Isaiah echoes this tragic rebellion and fall of the once beautiful cherub.
     A. (Isa. 14:11-22),
           1. 11 Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy
viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee.
           2. 12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning!
how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the
                nations!
           3. 13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will
exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the
mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
           4. 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the
                most High.
           5. 15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.
           6. 16 They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider
thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did
                shake kingdoms;
           7. 17 That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities
thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?
           8. 18 All the kings of the nations, even all of them, lie in glory,
                everyone in his own house.
           9. 19 But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, and
as the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword,
that go down to the stones of the pit, as a carcase trodden under feet.
           10. 20 Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast

                                       Page -6-
destroyed thy land, and slain thy people: the seed of evildoers shall
               never be renowned.
IV. Satan was created a very beautiful angel and given a high rank of power in
    heaven.
    A. As a cherub he was near to the throne of God.
         1. Although he was blameless in the beginning, he did have a free will,
and his fall came as a result of his lust for power and pride and his
               attempt to dethrone God.
V. In Revelation we get a glimpse of the battle in heaven that came as a result of
    Satan’s rebellion:
    A. (Rev. 12:7-9).
         1. And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against
the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,
         2. And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.
         3. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil,
and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the
earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
    B. Scripture says that Satan and his rebellious angels were thrown out of
heaven and have come to earth to lead the whole world astray.
    C. Verse twelve of the same chapter says,
         1. “Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and sea!
         2. For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because
he knows that he has a short time.” Satan is jealous of God’s love
for man, and in his fury seeks to destroy humankind. 6

                                     Page -7-
Chapter Four
                          Demons, Unholy Angels

In the Scriptures, both holy and unholy spirit beings are designated as angels,
(Rev. 12:7).
I. Usually the unholy angels are referred to as demons, translated in The King
     James Version as devils.
          1. The chief of the fallen angels is an archangel who has at least forty
               names given in Scripture.
          2. Some are proper names, others least forty names given in Scripture.
     B. Some are proper names, but others are descriptive.
          1. For Example, in (Rev. 12:10), he is called the accuser of the
               brethren.
          2. He is called “that old Serpent” (Rev. 20:1), indicating his guile,
               Lucifer, Son of the Morning.
          3. (Isaiah 14:12) his title when he fell.
          4. The word Devil means the accuser of slander and it is of Greek
               origin (Rev. 12:9).
          5. Satan means adversary or resister and is of Hebrew origin; Apollyon
means destroyers, the term Dragon speaks of his power.
          6. He is also called prince of devils (Matt. 9:3,4, prince of this world,
(Jn. 12:31), god of this world, and “prince of the air” (Eph. 2:2).
          7. “Belial” is implied to be his title in (II Cor. 6:15).
          8. In (II Kin. 1:2, 6, 16), he is referred to as Beelzebub, implying a
               prince of demons.
          9. As Dr. Chafer says, “In power, prominence and importance, Satan
appears in the Bible second only to the Trinity.” 7

                                     Page -8-
Chapter Five
                                 Conquering Power
God’s spiritual dominion is the most astonishing power in the universe.

  I. God has always worked through humans to accomplish bring His kingdom to
       the earth.
       A. We must take heaven by force.
             1. Just as God gave the people of Israel the promise then told them to
                   take it be force.
II. The Apostle Paul gave the Church the revelation knowledge of the powers and
       principalities in (Eph. 6).
       A. He disclosed that the church was in spiritual warfare gave us the keys to
spiritual warfare by using our spiritual weapons.
             1. Jesus Christ also told us in (Matt. 11:12), “The kingdom of heaven
suffereth violence and the violent take it by force.”
III. What does God say about principalities and powers?
       A. Jesus knows the subject of principalities and powers.
             1. He witnessed Lucifer, the archangel of praise and worship, becomes
a potentate of evil principalities and sinful powers.
       B. God says that Christ is the creator of all power. (Col. 1:16,) “For by him
were all things created, that are in heaven and that are in earth, visible and
invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or
powers; all things were created by and for him.”
             1. God says Christ is the head of all power.
             2. God elevated Christ above all principalities and powers according (
                   Col. 2:10).
             3. “And ye are complete in him which is the head of all principality and
                   power.”
             4. (Eph. 1:21), “Far above all principality and power and might, and
dominion and every name that is named, not only in this world, but
also in that which is to come.”
IV. God says that Christ destroyed the Devil’s power.
       A. According to (Col. 2:15), “An having spoiled principalities and powers,
he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.”
             1. God reveals wisdom to the Church.
       B. (Eph. 3:10), “To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in

                                         Page -9-
heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of
        God.”
EXTREME SHIFT OF CONSCIOUSNESS
V. The New Age Movement and many Christians talk about a radical shift of
   perception.
   A. The Neo-Pentecostal preachers claim new, direct revelations from God
which free them from the chains of tired old doctrines.
        1. A paradigm shift is a distinctly new way of thinking about old
               problems . . .
        2. The problem is, you cannot accept the new paradigm unless you
               abandon the old.
        3. "The largest single group within the Church today is that of the
               ignorant brethren!"
        4. We use the text (1Thess. 4:13), where the Apostle Paul wrote, "But
I would not have you to be ignorant brethren!"

                                   Page -10-
Chapter Six
                             Equipping Christians

Christians must be prepared and equipped for spiritual warfare.
I. From the earliest times men wore and used devices for the protection of the
     body in battle.
     B. The apostle Paul spoke of the armor in a figurative sense, with reference
to righteousness as a protection to the follower of God against the assaults
           of evil or temptation.
           1. They take upon themselves the whole armor of God, Helmet,
Salvation; Breastplate, Righteousness; Girded Loins, Truth; Shod
                 Feet; Shield, Faith, (Eph. 6:13-17).
           2. Shows what wonderful provisions’ God has made for His warriors.
     C. Christians must be on the defensive (Matt. 26:41).
           1. You must be anointed! (Matt. 3:16), You must fast! (Matt. 4:2).
           2. You must quote the Word! (Matt. 4:4, 7, 10).
           3. You must command the devil! (Matt. 4:10).
           4. You are the one that has to drive the devil to flight, (Jam. 4:7).
VI. Jesus said in (Matt. 12:23-33). Satan is not going to allow anyone to destroy his
work without putting up very strong counteraction.
     A. His control must first be neutralized before Christians can release his
           captives.
           1. Jesus asks this penetrating question, “how can anyone enter a
strongman’s house and carry off his possession unless he first ties up
                 the strongman?”
           2. Then Jesus told us that we could enter his house. (Matt. 12:29). The
King James Bibles reads, “bind the strongman.”
           3. Indeed, binding the strong man is the first basic PRINCIPLE of
                 spiritual warfare.
           4. In fact, before any warfare opposing powers and principalities and
wicked rulers and evil spirits can be won to release the nation, cities,
individual, family, the strongman must be defeated, (Matt. 18: 18.
                 19. 20).
VII. Once Satan’s power is bound, Jesus enters freely enters into his house and
     carries off Satan’s possessions.
     A. The territory is delivered and Satan loses control.

                                       Page -11-
1. The Greek word for spoil occurs in two forms, Diapazo and
harapzo, which means “an intensive spoiling, plunder and snatching
     away.”
2. In (Lk. 11-22), the Greek word Skulon, conveys “arms stripped
from a foe.” Putting it simply, Satan is stripped of his weapons, (Lk.
     11:21,22).
3. The Greek word Deo means literally ties or fasten, to arrest or
paralyze. The Christian reclaims everything that he has stolen.
4. Another words, Christians aggressively binding the power of demons
and prohibits them from the carry-forward their assignments.

Chapter Seven
                           Authority of Christians

Christians receive their authority from Jesus Christ and all authority is vested
in Him.
 I. Every believer can take to heart. “He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and
preach the good news to all creation . . . And these signs will accompany those
who believe: In my name they will drive out demons . . .” (Mk 16:15-17).
    A. Knowing one’s spiritual authority and how to use their binding power,
enables one to enter into spiritual warfare with faith to overcome.
          1. Believers in Jesus Christ have every advantage to defeat demons.
          2. The Word says, “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and
scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will
                harm you,” (Lk. 10:19).
          3. In addition, Jesus gives Christians power to use His name in (Matt.
28:28). “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given unto
                me, Therefore go . . .”
          4. He gave us the legal right of absolute authority. His power is, “Far
above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that
can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to
                come,” (Eph. 1:21).
II. Early in this century, Mrs. Jesse Penn-Lewis noted,
    A. “It is . . . clear in Bible history that the manifestation of the power of God
in The Pentecost, and through the Apostles, meant again an aggressive
attitude to the powers of Darkness.
          1. Therefore, the growth and maturity of the Church of Christ at the
end of the dispensation will mean the same recognition, and the
same attitude toward the Satanic hosts of the prince of the power of
the air, with the same co-witness of the Holy spirit to the authority
of the Name of Jesus, as in the early Church. In brief, that the
Church of Christ will reach its high water mark, when . . . it knows
how to ‘bind the strong man’ by prayer, ‘command’ the spirits of
evil in the Name of Christ, and deliver men and women from their
                power. 8

Chapter Eight
                          Clash Between Evil Spirits

There is an alarming onslaught of deceiving spirits attacking the
     Church of Jesus Christ.

I. The Apostle Paul reveals these special manifestations of evil spirits through
     prophecies.
     A. He points to the deception of Christian believers in the latter times.
          1. These deceptions are showing up in the supernatural realms.
     B. Many are following teaching ministers that are sending forth an army of
          teaching spirits.
          1. They are leading people away from their biblically based spiritual
                knowledge of Jesus Christ.
          2. Nevertheless, spiritual blindness and through lack of knowledge, many
are not able to carry out a full war against this army of wicked spirits.
          3. Many are shrinking from the subject of demons and call the war
                against them not credible.
          4. They believe that if Jesus Christ is preached, it is not necessary to give
attention to the existence of the devil. They think that they can ignore
him. (Jam. 4:7-8), “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he
                will flee from you.”
     C. Many Christians have never been taught the power of Jesus Christ.
          1. They believe that they never enter into direct conflict with Satan and
                his hosts.
          2. The church has actually been blinded by the powers of darkness and
                multitudes are being bound.
          3. Scriptural answers are not practiced in the lives of the people.
     D. The clash between Satan and Jesus Son of God in the first Gospel is an
          ongoing one.
          1. Satan is characterized as “the strong man”.
          2. Jesus, the Son of God, in that He casts out demons by the Holy Spirit
and brings people into the sphere of God’s reign, as one who “binds”
him and “plunders his goods” (Matt. 12; 28-29 cf. also 8:39).
          3. Conversely, Satan and those who do his bidding are depicted as doing
violence to the kingdom of heaven as “plundering” it (Matt. 11:12).

                                       Page -14-
4. A case in point, is Satan’s enlistment of Peter in an effort to put Jesus
at cross-purposes with his Father and to turn him away from the path
                  that leads to the cross.
            5. (He is revealed as Deity with absolute sovereignty and authority for
                  eternity.16:21-23).
            6. It is precisely to fend off onslaughts of Satan such as this that Jesus
teaches his disciples to pray (Matt. 6:13).“And lead us not into
temptation, but deliver us from the evil one” or (“from evil”).
            7. On another level, Satan also exercises his malevolent will against
Jesus through the Israelite crowds, (Matt. 11:16; 12:29, 16: 4).
            8. Their leaders’, (Matt. 16:1; 19:2; 22:18. 35; 23,15).
            9. Who asks Jesus for a sign or who tempt Him, not the least while he
is hanging on the cross, (Matt. 27:39-42).
II. Indeed through a parable of Jesus, Matthew makes the programmatic observation
that Satan is the personal “enemy” of Jesus Messiah.
      A. Who has usurped in Israel the allegiance that is due Jesus alone, (Matt.
            13:24-30).
            1. The repeated attacks of Satan are not sufficient to induce Jesus to
divest himself of His divine Sonship and to bring Him from his
                  mission, (Matt. 16:21).

                                        Page -15-
Chapter Nine
                           Return to Bible Basics

The Christian must return to biblical basics and biblical doctrines have
always been important features of training the Saints to be strong and
able to stand firm in God’s cause.

I. Jesus Christ, as presented by The Father and also Jesus’ testimony is according
to the Word, “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, “All power is given
to me in heaven and in earth . . . ” (Matt. 28:18).
     A. He is revealed as Deity with absolute sovereignty and authority over the
           universe for eternity.
     B. When Jesus asked them about popular opinions of his identity, they
recounted the rumors that he was John the Baptist or one of the ancient
           prophets.
           1. Jesus then turned the focus on them: “But who do you say that I
                 am?” Jesus insisted.
           2. When Peter spoke for them all and revealed that Jesus was the
Messiah and “Son of the living God,” Jesus blessed him for making
that confession. “You are Peter {Petros}” Jesus said in a play on
words, “and on this rock, {Petra} I will build my church,” (Matt.
                 16:18).9
     C. The apostle Paul reports, that Jesus rescued us from the power of darkness
and transferred us from the power of darkness and transferred us into the
           kingdom of his beloved Son.
           1. He writes in the beautiful poetic language of Jesus in (Col.1:13),
                 describing Christ’s sovereignty.
           2. A passage celebrates Christ as creator and preserver of the universe,
                 supreme over every creature.
           3. He is the head of his body, the church, and the first to conquer death.
           4. Although in Christ “all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell,”
Paul asserts, it was ultimately only through his human suffering -–
through “the blood of His cross,” (Col. 1:19,20), “That he was able
to reconcile all things to God and make peace.”10
     D. Satan’s strategy in these last days is to get you to doubt the reality of Jesus
           and His power.

                                      Page -16-
1. However, for the most part, entire denominations today operate
     without the Holy Spirit.
2. They are devoid of the presence of Jesus, bankrupt of all spiritual
     gifts.
3. They practice a form of religion without any power, conviction or
     saving message.
4. They have cultivated friendship with sin and ridiculing the
supernatural by tossing aside all teachings about heaven, hell,
     repentance and God’s judgment.
5. They are spiritually weak, and cold. The world no longer fears them.
6. They have no respect, and no influence and on society.

                         Page -17-
Chapter Ten
                      Preach the Word With Power

“So will they fear the name of the Lord from the west and East. His glory
from the rising of the sun; when the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of
the Lord will lift a standard against Him,” (Isa. 59:1).

I. The New Testament church made devils tremble and they turned the world
      up-side-down.
      A. It drove legions of demons and had faith and power to open prison doors,
healed the sick and converted the masses of pagans.
      B. “Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so
that from Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached
the gospel of Christ,” (Acts 19:19).
      C. If Paul preached and taught without signs and wonders following, his
message would not have had its full impact.
           1. It would not have been the gospel fully preached! He said to the
                  Corinthians,
           2. “Truly signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience,
in signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds,” (2 Cor. 12:12).
II. We have a commission to preach the Word, walking in agreement with the
      power of Jesus Christ!
      A. “His delegated power to usward who believe,” (Eph. 1:6-15),
           1. “To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us
accepted in the beloved. In whom we have redemption through his
                  blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
                  Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence;
Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his
good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: That in the
dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one
all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on
earth; even in him: In whom also we have obtained an inheritance,
being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all
things after the counsel of his own will: That we should be to the
praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. In whom ye also
trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your

                                       Page -18-
salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with
that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance
until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of
his glory. Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord
Jesus, and love unto all the saints,”
III. Jesus has been raised and seated at the right hand of Father God. He is ruling in
power and distributing His power to the ones who believe.
     A. (Eph. 1:17-23), “That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of
glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the
knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that
ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the
glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness
of his power to usward who believe, according to the working of his
mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the
dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above
all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that
is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: And
hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all
things to the church, Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all
           in all.
IV. The God of the stars in their courses will fight for me against the foes that hinder
me as I climb upward toward the home of God. (Judg. 5:19-20),
     A. “The kings came and fought, then fought the kings of Canaan in Taanach
by the waters of Megiddo; they took no gain of money. They fought from
heaven; the stars in their courses fought against Sisera. The river of
Kishon swept them away, that ancient river, the river Kishon. O my soul,
           thou hast trodden down strength.”
           1. (Judg. 5:31), “So let all thine enemies perish, O LORD. but let them
that love him be as the sun when he goeth forth in his might. And the
land had rest forty years. The Lord of hosts is with us. . . .”
           2. He will command the whole universe for the making of a soul. Do
                  you doubt me there?
           3. Then let me remind you that for the purchase of my soul and yours,
                  for its reconciliation and redemption.
           4. He gave in one supreme gift that which was infinitely superior to all
the stars--the One by Whose word they were made, and in Whose

                                      Page -19-
might they have consisted through the ages.
        5. He gave Him for the remaking of my broken, maimed, spoiled life.
        6. The stars, the hosts of God need be, will be pressed into the service
of the making of the saint, and into the service of the saint as he goes
forth in toil for God. 11
   B. (II Pet. 2:1-3), describes the methods of the end-time false ministers.
        1. “But there were false prophets also among the people even as there
shall be false teachers among you, you privily shall bring in
damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and
bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow
there pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of the truth shall
be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned
words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now o a long time
lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.”.
V. The apostle Peter indicated that many would come in the name of Christ, yet
deny Him as both Lord and Savior.
   A. The apostle also said that these same apostates would make merchandise
of the members of the churches.
        1. In other words, like the Nicolatians, they would use the money to
              gain advantage Revelations
        2. The church has not moved into the last day mighty power God in
              America.
        3. People go from place to place looking for a spiritual for spiritual
thrills and things that make them feel good for moments of time.
        4. They come to church and shout and laugh, then walk out to continue
              their perverse sin-lives.
        5. REVIVAL HAS NOT COME TO AMERICA, laughing, barking
like dogs, roaring like lions, shaking and trembling as if they have
muscular disease, is not the end-time revival!
   B. When revival comes, it will come on the convicting-sanctifying-powerful
        wings of the Holy Spirit.
        1. People will come to the majestic throne Jesus in repentance.
        2. The Holy Spirit will come to cleanse the polluted temples through
the deliverance power of our Lord Jesus Christ.
        3. Remember Jesus drove those evil spirits out of Mary Magdalene
before He opened the church door to her.

                                     Page -20-
4. She devotedly followed Him until her death.
5. If preaching alone could accomplish God’s desires, America would
have been won to Christ long ago. The Church must see the divine
     power of God.

                        Page -21-
Chapter Eleven
                              POWER OF GOD
Paul evangelizing in Ephesus, after three months of bold
preaching “. . . (certain) were harden, and believed not, but spake evil
       of the way before the multitude . . .” (Acts 19: 9).

I. This was a godless, idolatrous city given over to the occult.
    A. The masses were obsessed with occult books and practices, magic,
          witchcraft.
          1. After three months of bold preaching by Paul, the people only grew
                harder.
          2. But then God began to perform special miracles through Paul’s
                hands.
          3. Suddenly, the sick were being healed, the lames were given healthy
limbs, the blind had their sight restored!
          4. Paul’s ministry was a territorial-taking ministry.
          5. He came to change the demonic winds over the entire city!
          6. He came to take a harvest of souls for Jesus.
          7. He could only do it through the supernatural power of Jesus.
II. The demonic powers became riled and the seven sons of a priest named Sieva
went to a certain man’s house to try to cast demons out of him, “in the name
     of Jesus preached by Paul.”
     A. The legion inside this man turned on the seven and attacked them, tearing
their clothes and beating them wildly.
          1. They ran for their lives, naked and screaming!
          2. “And fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was
                magnified,”
          3. ( Acts 19:17). “These followers of Jesus have authority over demon
                powers.”
          4. A great bonfire burned the witchcraft paraphernalia.
          5. “Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books
together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price
of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver,” (Acts 19:19).
     B. Paul cast thousands of demons and the people willingly burned their
          magic, occult sciences, charms, witchcraft.

                                    Page -22-
1. And it happened because the people of Ephesus had been confronted
with a gospel “fully preached --with signs, wonders and mighty
              deeds!”
III. Power of Preaching
     A. The word of God tells us that there will be a church that does more than
preach and teach and will join Paul when he boldly stated, “And my
speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom,
but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,” (I Cor. 2:4).
IV. God’s power still works today!
     A. Challenges of demon powers in Argentina come from three elders from a
Brethren Church in Buenos Aires, Argentina. They were incensed that the
leader of a respectable Brethren congregation would support someone so
        controversial. 12
     B. Pentecostal evangelist Carlos Annacondia is considered by some people
as a messenger from God. More than two million people have registered
decisions for Christ in Annacondia’s meetings in the past ten years. During
the same period, some evangelical churches in the country have grown by
500 percent and in the greater La Plata area, forty-five churches were
started as a result of his crusade there in 1984.
     C. They watched in horror and disbelief as people were carried into a special
one hundred and a fifty-foot tent called the “intensive care unit” to receive
prayer for deliverance from satanic bondage. The men demanded an
answer. “Give us one good reason why we should support this man! We
doubt that you can even find half a reason!”
     D. “You are wrong. I can give you not one but fifty-one thousand reasons.
That is the number of people who have made public decisions for Christ
since this crusade began!” If you believe in casting out devils in America,
you will be considered as a fraud and many will call you everything they
can think of that is evil. But our nation must open to reality that demons
no longer reside on the foreign mission fields.
     E. They are very active here, in our nation, cities, schools, families. Our
people are becoming confused and unable to survive the tremendous
revivals of sex, New Age occult religion and the attack on Christian
values. Only deliverance in Jesus’ name will free the people from the ties
of sin. However, He needs servants willing to pay the price, that have the
agape’ love and compassion to set the captives free! God is in the center

                                    Page -23-
of deliverance.
V. The Bible says that God is in the center of the deliverance ministry. (Lk. 11:20),
“But if I with the finger of God cast out devils . . . ”
   A. Look at another Scripture,“The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out
       of temptations,” (2 Pet. 2:9).
       1. “God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye
are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that
ye may be able to bear it,” (1 Cor. 10:13)
       2. Our God is able, he knows how to deliver you!

Chapter Twelve
                           Preparation for Deliverance

Derek Prince writes, “Today, by divine providence, the veils of
convention and carnality are once again being drawn aside, and the
church of Jesus Christ is being confronted by the same manifest
opposition of demon power that confronted the church of the New
Testament. In these circumstances, the church must once again explore
the resources of authority and power made available to her through the
truth of the Scripture, the anointing of the Holy Spirit, and the Name
and the Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.” 13

I. FREE CHOICE
        A. Jesus Christ will not step over one’s will.
              1. People by their choice of receiving God’s provisions or rejection of
those choices, choose to go to Heaven or Hell.
              2. There is a warfare that is being waged for the souls of people.
              3. The target of Satan only has to get your will to agree with sin.
              4. Unfortunately, man’s fallen state, gives Satan an easy ticket to man’s
                 will.
              5. In this world revolution for souls, there is a vacuum that only Jesus
                 Christ can fill.
              6. Satan will try to fill this vacuum with sin, and worldly materialism.
                 It won’t work.
              7. People of sin, will only fall captives to Satan’s world.
              8. Walking with Christ brings the greatest joy and happiness in the
                 earth.
              9. “. . . He hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted to proclaim
liberty to the captives and the opening of the prison to them that are
                 bound,” (Isa. 61:1).
II. Throughout the ages, God is shown warring for His people to deliver them
from bondage and captivity--when they wanted to be liberated, loosed, or set
        free.
        A. This principle is still true today.
              1. A host of people who needs to be liberated and set free!
              2. The Scriptures show that Jesus came to set the captives free.

                                       Page -25-
3. The Apostle Johns reveals this never-ending war in (Rev. 12:7-11),
“And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against
     the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, and prevailed not;
neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great
dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan,
which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and
his angels were cast out with him. And I heard a loud voice, saying
in heaven. Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of
our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren
is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.
And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word
of their testimony: and they loved not their lives unto the death.”
Jesus is coming back for a delivered church! 14

Chapter Thirteen
                             Transference of Devils

Transferences of spirits are shown in the Bible as occurring with
people receiving the influence of both good and bad spirits.

I. The Scripture warns us through the Apostle James that many times’ temptation
     is caused by man himself.
     A. Transference of evil spirits becomes man's transgression when he allows
himself to be drawn away by his own lust of the flesh.
           1. Then James states that when lust is conceived, it brings sin, and sin,
when it is finished, brings death (Jam. 1:15).
     B. An individual must examine the temptation as to its source before he can
           determine how to overcome it.
           1. "Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried,
he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to
them that love them. Let no man say when he is tempted, I am
tempted of God; for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither
tempteth he any man, But every man is tempted, when he is drawn
away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived,
it bringeth for sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death,"
                 (Jam. 1:12- 15).
II. Evil spirits gain entrance to a person’s life through an agreement of engagement
     of sin.
     A. Paul tells us in (Rom. 13:14), “But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and
make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.”
           1. Look at the Scripture, “He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the
devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God
was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil,” (I Jn.
                 3:8). 15
III. Daniel gives us the secret of survival in a heathen land as shown in (Dan. 1:8),
     “
     A. ‘But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the
portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank; there he
requested of the prince of the enunics that he might not defile himself.”
           1. Daniel made a decision in his heart not to sin.

                                       Page -27-
IV. Backsliding
    A. Backsliding is turning gradually, voluntarily, or insensibly from the
knowledge, faith, love, and profession of God, after having once entered
into a covenant relationship with Him.
    B. Some Christians open themselves to demonic attack by backsliding.
          1. The Word of God says, “The backslider in heart shall be filled with
his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself,”
                (Prov. 14:14).
          2. If a Christian backslides, grows cold in allegiance to Jesus Christ,
Satan will come and first tempt that person to do wrong.
          3. As the temptation is obeyed, and opens a doorway appears for a
spirit to enter and take control.
V. A man, will call him Jerry, came through the ministry and received a lot of
    deliverance.
    A. It stayed for a few month but then suddenly left the ministry.
          1. One day Jerry returned. He was really in bad spiritual condition.
          2. He said, “pastor, I got engaged. She was such a beautiful lady. In the
beginning we kept our relationship holy.
          3. But then, we fell into fornication. I moved into her house.”
    B. Jerry continued his story. “We were going to a church that praised the
          Lord for about three hours.
          1. The preacher would only preach for about five or ten minutes. The
church was packed out with people just like us.
          2. There was not enough of God’s Word being taught to convict us.
          3. So we felt good in church in our sin state.
          4. He told me that one day his girl friend kick him out.
          5. The devils began to torment him.
          6. He said he wanted to get delivered.
    C. I warned Jerry that the deliverance ministry was nothing to play around
          with.
          1. “You know Jerry, I can cast those devils out but if you go back,
                you’ll become seven times worse.
          2. The Bible says that when an unclean spirit leaves, it goes to the dry
                places and finds no peace.
          3. The demon will return to that person and if it finds it vacant, the
demon will enter back into the body and bring seven worse devils.”

                                     Page -28-
4. Jerry said, “pastor, I don’t think I want to be seven times worse.”
          5. I asked Jerry if he would commit his life to Jesus?
          6. He said, “let me go back to church to see if my girl friend is there
               Sunday.”
         7. He left and we didn’t see him for several months.
         8. However one night, someone carried him into the church.
         9. He was screaming in pain.
         10. “It feels like a million knives cutting my guts.”
         11. We cast the demons out. He was instantly free and delivered.
    D. The Apostle Paul writes about Christians’ backsliding in (I Tim. 2:25,26),
“Holding faith and a good conscience; which some having put away
concerning faith have made shipwreck: of whom in Hymanaeus and
Alexander, whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to
         blaspheme?”
VI. A person must renounce of all contact with evil spirits, such as, contacts with
witchcraft, sexual sins, the forgiving of all other persons.
      A. The complete surrender of every area of the life to the Lordship of
              Jesus Christ is necessary.
         1. A woman that I will call Judy came to the ministry.
         2. She was a witch!
         3. She was used by Satan to infiltrate churches.
         4. When she came, I saw that she was into witchcraft.
         5. Jesus told me to “just preach the Word to her.”
      B. One night, she asked for deliverance.
         1. During the session, the devil spoke through her mouth.
         2. “She belongs to me.
         3. You can’t have her. She belongs to our coven.”
         4. I told the demon to shut up and come out.
         5. The demon said, “we’ve tried to get her to kill you, but she won’t do
              it.”
         6. After the demons left, I asked her why she did not obey the devil and
              try to kill me.
         7. She said, “I could not do it because you loved me.
         8. No one ever loved me before.”
      C. It takes a lot of love and compassion to set victims of Satan free.
         1. They will respond to the Word and love.

                                     Page -29-
2. It takes teaching and commitment for them to stay free.
3. They must totally sell out to Jesus.

                          Page -30-
Chapter Fourteen
                                Sin Factor

The deliverance ministry should never be entered into lightly.

I. It is a deep work the minister has to be totally submitted to the Holy Spirit.
      A. It is a work of God in a person’s life.
                 1. It operates exactly like the doctrines of Salvation, and the
                        Baptism of the Holy Spirit.
                 2. The person’s will is involved-One must want to be free to be
                        delivered.
                 3. God will not step over the will of a human being.
      B. The first principle is that the person’s will be in agreement with the
                 will of God.
                 1. The name of Jesus cannot coerce the human will.
                 2. Jesus never violated the human will and neither can be a
                        deliverance minister.
                 3. “But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the
kingdom of God is come unto you,” (Matt. 12: 28).
II. We see people backsliding at Meribah, (Exo. 17: 1-7); when Aaron made the
Golden calf, (Exo. 32); after Joshua’s death, (Judg 1.:11ff); during Asa’s
      reign, (2 Chron. 15); during Hezekiah’s reign, (2 Chron. 30: 2:12).
      A. Again we see it in (1Sam. 15:11), It repenteth me that I have set up
Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not
performed my commandments. And it grieved Samuel; and he cried
              unto the LORD all night.”
      B. We all remember Ananias, a covetous member of the church in
              Jerusalem.
              1. After selling a plot of land, he and his wife Sapphira pretended
to donate the entire proceeds to the church, while in reality they
kept back a portion of it.
              2. For their hypocrisy, they were punished with death, (Acts
                      5:1-11).
              3. This is a clear picture of transference of spirits from the
                      husband to the wife.

                                     Page -31-
4. She made the choice to walk in agreement with his evil actions
                   and lies. 16
III. REPENTANCE
       A. The key to true deliverance is repentance.
           1. This means to change one’s mind with regard too past or
                   intended actions of personal conduct.
           2. One must feel regret and determine in the heart to be
                   dissatisfied with one’s past.
           3. Sin must always be recognized, confessed and forsaken.
           4. There can be no full deliverance where a person’s sin is a
major factor, unless there is a frank recognition of it and a
willingness with the help of God’s grace to give it up.
           5. “For Godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be
repented of but the sorrow of the world worketh death,” (2 Cor.
                   7:10).
       B. According to The Eerdmans Bible Dictionary, the word, "Repentance"
may represent only regret or remorse over a past thought or action, but
in its fullest sense it is a term for a complete chance of orientation
involving a judgment upon the past and a deliberate redirection for the
           future.
           1. The Old Testament concept of repentance appears as both ritual
action meant to demonstrate repentance, and the prophetic call
                   for repentance.
           2. Rituals such as fasting, dressing in sackcloth, sitting in ashes,
and wailing were characteristic expressions of repentance.
           3. In addition, the liturgical form of the lament might be employed
by individuals or the community to express a strong sense of
                   sin.
           4. Such rituals were expected to be accompanied by authentic
                   repentance.17
       C. There is a call to "repentance" is going forth in this hour to the people
           of God.
           1. One seeking deliverance must utterly renounce and hate all
the demons and all of their various manifestations in his life.
           2. If he clings knowingly to even one small facet of the demonic
in his life, he can block the entire deliverance.

                                    Page -32-
3. God requires an unqualified and an unconditional surrender and
a total renunciation of the enemy.
             4. In the New Testament the prophetic call for repentance is
echoed in the preaching of John the Baptist, who called Israel
                   to repentance.
             5. The motivation for repentance spoken of by John was the
imminent arrival of the kingdom of God (Matt. 3:2).
             6. This call to repentance was reissued in the proclamation of
Jesus, (Matt. 4:17), which became a call to the discipleship.
Also, read (Acts 3:19; 26:20; Gal. 3:25-26; Eph. 4:5; Rom.
11:20) for more scriptures dealing with repentance preached by
                   the Apostles.
IV. Without repentance of the possessed person, a deliverance minister can do
them more harm by trying to cast evil spirits out of them.
      A. Our Lord Jesus warned us that seven worse spirits would return if the
proper conditions were not met in deliverance.
             1. True repentance must be dealt with before people are taken
                   through deliverance.
             2. If they are not truly repentant, they will not receive true
DELIVERANCE because they have not met the conditions of
                   the Lord.
             3. “When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh
through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. Then he
saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and
when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.
Then goeth he, and take with himself seven other spirits more
wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there; and the
last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be
also unto this wicked generation,” (Matt. 1 2: 3 -5).
V. I have been in the ministry for twenty-eight years. Over the years, I’ve seen
many people come to deliverance ministers seeking help.
      A. They receive help but they refused to clean up their lives and walk
             uprightly before God.
             1. Sadly after the deliverance workers spend a lot of time casting
out the evil spirits for these people and after they return to their
old sin life, they will become spiritual monsters.

                                     Page -33-
2. Sometime they will try to sit on the fence and not sell out to
                     Jesus.
              3. They will attempt to use a deliverance ministry receive relief
                     from tormenting devils.
       B. Many deliverance ministers will continue to cast out their demons as
these uncommitted sinners resume sinning over and over.
              1. These people are looking for temporary relief from tormenting
spirits, not a walk with the Lord Jesus Christ.
              2. If a person is not willing to walk in faith and holiness before the
Lord, don’t waste their time nor yours.
              3. Pray for them and ask God’s mercy.
              4. Don’t let them tie your time up by casting spirits out that they
have no intentions of keeping out.
              5. If God’s not working with them, don’t you either.
VI. SALVATION
       A. As a prerequisite to deliverance, a person must be saved.
       B. What is salvation?
              1. We must lead a person to the definite accepting of Jesus Christ,
if he has not already done this, before we pray for healing or
                     deliverance.
              2. It there is no clear testimony to salvation, we first ask him to
invite Jesus Christ into his heart orally, to reaffirm his faith.
              3. (Rev. 3:20), “Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord
                     shall be saved,” (Acts 2:21).
       C. Salvation rests in the finished work of the son of God, Jesus Christ.
              1. For further consideration of this truth, we should examine the
words of the Apostle Peter contained in (Acts 4:10-12). "Then
all of you and all the people of Israel should know that it was in
the name of Jesus Christ, the Nazarene whom you crucified,
whom God raised from the dead; in His name this man stands
before you healed. He is the 'stone rejected by you, the builders,
which has become the cornerstone'. There is no salvation
through anyone else, nor is there any other name under heaven
given to the human race by which we are to be saved."
VII. An example prayer for salvation. If anyone will accept the truth of these
scriptures and realize that theirs is an incomplete profession of faith for

                                      Page -34-
salvation, the following prayer, prayed in faith, will the following prayer,
prayed in faith, will the following prayer, prayed in faith, will bring one into
a saving knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ and into eternal life.

"Holy Father, I am a sinner. I am hell bound, I believe, and I am wholly convinced,
that Jesus Christ died for my sins. I now confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord.
I confess in my heart that you have raised Him from the dead. I repent of all my sins,
both of commission and omission. Jesus, come into my life and reign as my Lord and
as my Savior. Thank you Father for saving my soul. Amen."

                              Page -47-
"The Occult" is a broad term referring to activities that seek
knowledge and/or power from sources other than God.

‘ Sorcery, magic, psychics, palm-reading, fortune-telling,
witchcraft, false religions and idol worship.
‘ Sexual sin is part of the occult because it involves seeking "carnal
      knowledge" of another person.

Generational sin
‘ Our sin can bring consequences (curses) that affect our
descendants down to the 4th generation.
‘ These curses often manifest as weaknesses to certain types of sin.
‘ For example, the descendants of a man who commits adultery
may find themselves with a tendency toward adultery.
‘ The basis for this is found in (Ex. 34:6-7) and other scriptures.
‘ A simple way to evaluate the possibility of generational sin
affecting you is to construct a family tree diagram, noting any
patterns of sin that run down the family line.
Lust and porn addiction work together like old friends. Lust simply
is "intense or unbridled sexual desire" (Webster's).

‘ Most sex addictions, if not all, involve lust.

Sexual Idolatry: Sex can be a powerful pleasure source.

‘ When we start making sexual pleasure the focus of our thoughts
and activities, we are basically making it an idol.
‘ An idol is anything that has a higher priority than God in our life.
‘ Porn and other sexually charged material lead people to worship
      sex now more than ever.

Unforgiveness

                                Page -48-
‘ Bitterness, resentment and grudges are all examples of
      unforgiveness
‘ Since God was willing to forgive us for our sin, we must be
willing to forgive others for what they have done to us.
‘ If we do not forgive, our healing and blessings from God will be
      blocked.
‘ Is there anyone in your life that you have not forgiven?
(examples: co-workers, former boss, family members, pastor,
      former church members, abusers, etc.).

Pride
‘ Pride is perhaps the most self-deceptive sin.
‘ There are so many ways it can manifest in our lives.
‘ Examples of pride indicators: criticism of others, failure to give
Jesus control of our life, relying on our own provisions for
happiness (instead of God), and ignoring or neglecting God's call
      for purity in our thoughts.
‘ If we're still living as king of our life instead of making Jesus
king of our life, then we have a pride problem.

Sin memories

‘ One of the problems with sexual sin is that it creates lasting
      memories.
‘ Our thoughts can easily return to those memories instantaneously.
Its amazing how we can forget much of what we learned during
school, yet retain the memory of one porn picture for years.
‘ With God's help, we can cast down those memories and train our
      minds to pure thoughts.

Cherished memories

                               Page -49-
‘ Cherishing our memories of our sexual exploits reinforces the
memories and leads to prolonged failure in addiction.
‘ Even after shutting off the porn input, we can still be porn addicts
    by lusting over our memories!
‘ For example, my cherished memories of sex sin were difficult for
me to give up to God.
‘ I had used those memories to medicate the pain of insecurity and
    rejection over the years.
‘ I found myself fondly remembering the sexual exploits I had
done as a single. God showed me that this was despicable and
that I needed to see those exploits for the sin that they were.
‘ God helped me die to the pleasure of those memories and I was
able to turn away from them.
‘ Are you cherishing any memories of sexual sin in your thoughts?

Unwanted memories

‘ More and more people report having been sexually abused
at some point in their lives.
‘ Sexual abuse often causes trauma and unwanted memories.
‘ Unforgiveness is also a common foothold that may be
    involved.
‘ Recovery from sex abuse can begin through prayer, by
asking God to heal the emotional and spiritual wounds that
    were created.
‘ If unforgiveness is involved, we can ask God to give us the
ability to forgive the perpetrator through the blood of
    Christ.
‘ Forgiving the perpetrator does not mean that we are
    condoning the abuse.
‘ These are often difficult issues to work through, and we
encourage you to seek prayer and Christian counseling if

                              Page -50-
you have been sexually abused.

Soul ties

‘ Soul ties can be created through sex, pornography or unhealthy
      relationships.
‘ Soul ties can act like curses and hinder our walk to freedom,
especially when we've had multiple sexual partners.
‘ We can break soul ties through prayer, specifically addressing
      these points:
‘ 1) Confess the sin committed
‘ 2) Name the persons involved
‘ 3) Ask the Lord to sever the soul ties
‘ 4) Ask the Lord to restore us to wholeness.

Secrecy
‘ Sex addiction likes to stay in the dark, where it can continue to
     consume our life.
‘ Keeping our sin secret from others blocks God's blessings on our
     lives (Prov. 28:13).
‘ Bringing it to the light can be fearful and painful, but once we do,
we open the door for God's healing and forgiveness (1 Jn 1:9; Ja.
     5:15-16).

Other common strongholds

‘ An unbridled tongue: constant joking, sarcasm, and gossip allow
evil influence in our lives (Ja. 3:6,16).
‘ Hatred: Hatred allows darkness to blind us (1 Jn 2:9-11).
‘ Stingy spirit: Refusing to honor God with our money blocks the
path of God's blessings on our lives (Gal. 6:6-9).

                               Page -51-
Greed

‘ Love of Money
‘ The desire to be rich brings temptation and a snare.
‘ It causes people to fall into foolish and harmful lusts.
‘ The love of money is a root of all kinds of evil (1 Tim. 6:6-12,17-
       19).
‘ A prayer for freedom and healing.

Confession brings healing and purification (1 Jn 1:9; Ja. 5:15-
16).

Father God, I believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God, who was
crucified and resurrected from the dead. I confess that I have sinned by
_____________(list the footholds). I renounce these sins and the use of
my body for any sinful purpose. Father God, I ask for your forgiveness
through the blood of Jesus Christ. I close the door to the devil and his
work, and I bar it with the blood of Jesus Christ. Thank you for
forgiving me and cleansing me!”
Commitment: secures your resolve to serve God, not sin (Ro/ 6:13,16,19)
"Father God, I commit myself, body, soul and spirit, to serving you
wholeheartedly in the area of ________________. I will no longer
present my members as instruments for sin, but rather, for
righteousness. Please strengthen me by the Holy Spirit to walk in purity
in this area. Thank You. In Jesus' name, Amen."
      Deliverance Scriptures
‘ “Thy right hand, 0 Lord, is become glorious in power, “ (Ex. 13:6).
‘ “He delivereth the poor in his affliction, and openeth their ears in
      oppression," (Job. 36:15).
‘ .. .by the word of Thy lips 1 have kept me from the paths of the
       destroyer," (Ps. 17:4).
‘ "Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth

                                 Page -52-
him out of them all," (Ps. 34"19).
‘ "As tor me, I will call upon God; and the Lord will save me . . .
He shall hear my voice. He hath delivered my soul in peace from
the battle that was against me: tor there were many with me," (Ps.
       55:16).
‘ "Surely He shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and
from the noisome pestilence," (Ps. 91:3).
‘ "Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and He delivered
them out of their distresses," (Ps. 107:6).
‘ "He sent his Word, and healed them, and delivered them from
       their destructions," (Ps. 143:11).
‘ "Quicken me, 0 Lord, tor Thy name's sake: for Thy righteousness'
sake bring my soul out of trouble," (Ps. 144:7).
‘ "Send Thine hand from above; rid me, and deliver me out of great
       waters," (Prov. 11:8).
‘ "The righteous is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked cometh
       in his stead," (Isa. 33:2).
‘ "0 Lord, be gracious unto us; we have waited tor Thee: be Thou
their arm every morning, our salvation also in the time of
       trouble," (Jer. 12:21).
‘ "And I will deliver thee out of the hand of the wicked, and I will
redeem thee out of the hand of the terrible," (Joel 2:32).
‘ "Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be
       delivered." (Jn. 8:23).
‘ "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free,"
       (Jn. 8:32).
‘ "If the Son therefore shall make you tree, ye shall be free indeed,"
       (Jn 8:36).

“Surely oppression maketh a wise man mad; and a gift destroyeth the
heart. 8 Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the
patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit. 9 Be not hasty in thy spirit
to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools,” (Eccl 7:7-9).

                                   Page -53-
POSSIBLE EVIDENCE OF SPIRITUAL OPPRESSION
COMPULSIVE THOUGHTS

‘ Extremely low self-image (unworthy, a failure, no good - a
    constant undermining of the self-identity).
‘ Constant confusion in thinking (sometimes great difficulty in
    remembering things).
‘ Inability to believe (even when the person wants to).
‘ Mocking and blasphemous thoughts against preaching/teaching
    of the Word of God.
‘ Perceptual distortions - perceiving anger, hostility, in others when
it doesn't really exist - seeing only judgment in the scriptures.
‘ Horrible nightmares causing fear (often having demonic images).
‘ Violent thoughts (suicidal, homicidal, encouraging self-abuse,
    etc).

COMPULSIVE FEELINGS

‘ Hatred and bitterness toward others for no justifiable reason.
‘ Tremendous hostility or fear when encountering someone
    involved in deliverance work.
‘ Deep depression and despondency (frequently and timely).
‘ Irrational fears - panic attacks - phobias.
‘ Irrational anger - rage.
‘ Irrational guilt - self-condemnation to the extreme .

COMPULSIVE BEHAVIOR

‘ Desire to do what is right (inability to carry it out).
‘ Sudden personality and attitude changes (severe contrasts -
    appears schizophrenic).

                              Page -54-
‘ A strong aversion toward scripture reading and prayer (especially
     one on one).
‘ A dark countenance (steely or hollow look in eyes - contraction
of the pupils - sometimes facial features contort or change - often
an inability to look at your directly.
‘ Lying, exaggerating, or stealing compulsively (often wondering
     why).
‘ Drug abuse (especially when there is demonic hallucinations).
‘ Eating obsessions - bulimia, anorexia nervosa.
‘ Compulsive sexual sins (especially perversions).
‘ Irrational laughter or crying.
‘ Irrational violence - compulsion to hurt self and/or someone else.
‘ Sudden speaking of a language not previously known (often an
     ethnic language of ancestors).
‘ Reactions to the name and blood of Jesus Christ (verbally or
through body language) (Not tongues of the Holy Spirit).
‘ Extreme restlessness (especially in a spiritual environment).
‘ Uncontrollable cutting and mocking tongue.
‘ Vulgar language and actions.

CONSCIOUSNESS PROBLEMS
‘ Loss of time (from minutes to hours - ending up someplace, not
knowing how you got there - regularly doing things of which
   there is no memory).
‘ Extreme sleepiness around spiritual things.
‘ Demonstration of extraordinary abilities (either ESP or
   Telekinesis).
‘ Voices are heard in the mind (they mock, intimidate, accuse,
   threaten or bargain).
‘ Voice speaking from subject - refers to him/her in the third
   person.
‘ Supernatural experiences - haunting, movement or disappearance.

                              Page -55-
of objects, and other strange manifestations.
ABNORMAL MEDICAL PROBLEMS

‘ Seizures (too long and/or too regular).
‘ Pain (without justifiable explanation - especially in head and/or
       stomach).
 ‘ Blackouts.
‘ Physical ailments can often be alleviated immediately by a
command of spiritual authority (i.e. epileptic seizure, asthma
       attacks, various pains).
‘ Sudden interference with bodily functions (temporary).
 ‘ buzzing in ears,
‘ inability to speak or hear,
 ‘ sudden severe headache,
‘ hypersensitivity in hearing or touch,
‘ sudden chills or overwhelming heat in body,
‘ numbness in arms or legs,
 ‘ temporary paralysis .
 NOTE:
If a person has only a few of the above symptoms which have no
apparent demonic connections, then there is probably nothing much to
worry about. But if a large number of these symptoms can be checked,
there is a likelihood that there is a measure of spiritual oppression that
is in place.

 Keeping Deliverance
“So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his
glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a
flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him,” (Isa
59:19).

Seven Requirements For Keeping Deliverance

                                Page -56-
‘ Yield to the Lordship of Jesus in every area.
‘ Be continuously filled with the Holy Spirit, (Eph. 5:18).
‘ Live by the Word of God (Lk. 11:13; Acts 2:4, (Matt. 4:4; 7,11).
‘ Put on the whole armour of God (Eph. 6:10-18) Especially the
       "Helmet" of hope (I Thes. 5:8; I Tim. 13:13; Ro. 8:28; Heb.
       6:18-20).
‘ Also the "garment of praise," (Isa. 61:3; 60:18; Lk. 4:18; Heb.
       13:15).
 ‘ Cultivate right relationships.
‘ Cultivate right fellowship. (Both faith and unbelief come through
what we hear. (Ro. 10:17, Mk. 4:24; Lk. 8:18).

 WE BELIEVE
1. We believe in one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy
Spirit.
2. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless
life, in His miracles, in His death on the Cross, in His atonement for our sins through
His blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father,
and in His Second Coming in power and glory as King of Kings.
3. We believe that salvation through Jesus Christ is the only way to the Father and
eternal life. (Acts 4:12).
4. We believe sinners must be born again through water and Spirit to enter the
Kingdom of God. (Jn. 3:16-36).
5. We believe Jesus Christ is the logos - the living Word of God.
6. We believe the Holy Bible to be the inspired, infallible, inerrant, authoritative
Word of God.
7. We believe in water baptism in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy
Spirit. (2Tim. 3:
 16).
8. We believe Holy Communion is a sacred rite. Jesus said, “Except ye eat the flesh
of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.” (Jn. 6:53)
9. We believe that marriage is a holy covenant between God and one man and one
woman. (Gen.
 2:18).

  • 3. Chapter One Demons There is one “devil” but many “demons.” I. The word “demon” is not found in the King James Version of the Bible. A. However, whenever the word “devils” are found it should be translated “demon.” 1. (Matt. 8:16) “ . . . they brought unto him (Jesus)many that were possessed with devils (demons) and he cast out the spirits with His Word, and healed all that were sick.” 1 2. One of the most important tools in the Church is to be able to discern and cast out evil spirits. 3. We are not cast out the people, only the evil spirits!2 4. (De’munz) The modern definition of a demon as an evil spirit is the result of a long development. B. The word frequently meant something entirely differently to ancient writers. 1. Originally, it referred to a sort of anonymous god, operating alongside of, but somewhat less noticeable than the major deities of the ancient world. 2. Ancient writers speak of both good and bad demons or “daimones.” 3. The Hebrew word elohim, commonly translated “god,” is sometimes used in the Old Testament to express this ancient concept. 4. Often, when one is described as “a man of god,” the meaning is that he possesses the ability to interpret omens, or some such similar power. 5. This ability is attributable to a divine and that this ability is attributable to a divine power, or demon, (see I Sam. 2:27; 9:6; I Kin. 12:1; 2Kin. 4:7). II. The Old Testament also refers to the objects of pagan worship and to malign spirits, in the more familiar sense, as demons.3 A. In the New Testament the existence of demons, as responsible for all kinds of disorder, is taken for granted. Page -1-
  • 4. B. They are regarded as ministers of Satan, or Belial, or Beelzebub. 1. They are expelled by invoking of the name of God and by the preaching of His redemptive power. 2. They are destined to final defeat by the forces of righteousness, to be followed by consignment to ever lasting fire. 3. As in the Old Testament, the objects of pagan worship are occasionally referred to as demons. 4 Page -2-
  • 5. Chapter Two Power of The Deliverance Ministry Jesus Christ, as presented by The Father and Jesus’ testimony is according to the Word, “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given to me in heaven and in earth . . . ” (Mat. 28:18). I. POWERS OF DARKNESS A. He is revealed as Deity with absolute sovereignty and authority for eternity. 1. The devil or Satan is introduced to us as a person who opposes God and His work. (See Gen. 3:1; Rom. 15:22). 2. He is the “god of this world,” who blinds the minds of the people to the truths of God’s Word (2Cor. 4:4; Eph. 2:2). 3. Having rebelled against God, he was cast out of heaven; then he caused man’s fall in paradise. 4. Jesus calls him often as an “angel of light,” (2Cor. 11:14). 5. Satan is seeking the ruin triumphed over him at the Cross of Calvary, (IJn. 3:8). 6. And in His resurrection, and he will finally be condemned and destroyed, (Rev. 20). II. There are many kinds of demons and they afflict people in various ways, (see Matt. 12:22, 17:15-18; Lk. 12:16). A. Also, they bring false doctrine, (ITim. 4:1-4), trying to seduce the elect (Matt. 24:24), oppressing (Acts 10:38), obsessing, and possessing people. 1. They know Jesus, and recognize The Lord’s power and tremble (Matt. 8:29). 2. For them, hell is the final destination, as it is for Satan.5 III. References concerning the stand we have to take against these powers! A. It is most important to realize that ours is the position in Christ, “far above all principality, and power, and might and dominion . . . ” (Eph. 1:21). B. We resist the devil (Jam. 4:7), in the whole armor of God (Eph. 6:13- 18), by virtue of the blood of Jesus (Rev. 12:11), by faith, prayer and Page -3-
  • 6. fasting (Matt. 17:20,21). 1. Jesus cast out demons (Matt. 12). 2. He commands and expects His disciples to do the same. 3. (Read Lk. 9 and 10, also Matt. 28:20 and Mk 16:17). C. In Acts, we learn how the disciples exercised their authority by casting out demons, thus magnifying the Name of Jesus! (See Acts 8:7). Page -4-
  • 7. Chapter Three The Deliverance Ministry The deliverance ministry is more controversial today than it was when Jesus cast out devils. I. The religious people of His time charged that “He cast out devils by Beelzebub.” (Lk. 11:13). A. Jesus did not have to teach the people the reality of demons. 1. They knew about reality of demonology. 2. However, they had problems discerning the source of his power. 3. Jesus had compassion for His people to live above peer pressure. 4. It is a terrible thing to see someone who is entangled helplessly under the power of demons. II. THE BEAUTIFUL ANGEL A. There are two passages in the Scriptures have long intrigued Bible Scholars, and many believe they refer to Satan. 1. Just as in the Psalms David often spoke of himself and at the same time prophetically of Christ. 2. So also Ezekiel and Isaiah, delivering warnings to evil kings, seem under the prompting of the Holy Spirit to refer to the fall of Satan. B. (Ezek. 28:12-19), 1. “Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty.” 2. 13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. 3. 14 Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. 4. 15 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. 5. 16 By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of Page -5-
  • 8. thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. 6. 17 Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee. 7. 18 Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee. 8. 19 All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more. III. Isaiah echoes this tragic rebellion and fall of the once beautiful cherub. A. (Isa. 14:11-22), 1. 11 Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee. 2. 12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 3. 13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 4. 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. 5. 15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. 6. 16 They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms; 7. 17 That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners? 8. 18 All the kings of the nations, even all of them, lie in glory, everyone in his own house. 9. 19 But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, and as the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit, as a carcase trodden under feet. 10. 20 Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast Page -6-
  • 9. destroyed thy land, and slain thy people: the seed of evildoers shall never be renowned. IV. Satan was created a very beautiful angel and given a high rank of power in heaven. A. As a cherub he was near to the throne of God. 1. Although he was blameless in the beginning, he did have a free will, and his fall came as a result of his lust for power and pride and his attempt to dethrone God. V. In Revelation we get a glimpse of the battle in heaven that came as a result of Satan’s rebellion: A. (Rev. 12:7-9). 1. And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, 2. And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. 3. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. B. Scripture says that Satan and his rebellious angels were thrown out of heaven and have come to earth to lead the whole world astray. C. Verse twelve of the same chapter says, 1. “Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and sea! 2. For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.” Satan is jealous of God’s love for man, and in his fury seeks to destroy humankind. 6 Page -7-
  • 10. Chapter Four Demons, Unholy Angels In the Scriptures, both holy and unholy spirit beings are designated as angels, (Rev. 12:7). I. Usually the unholy angels are referred to as demons, translated in The King James Version as devils. 1. The chief of the fallen angels is an archangel who has at least forty names given in Scripture. 2. Some are proper names, others least forty names given in Scripture. B. Some are proper names, but others are descriptive. 1. For Example, in (Rev. 12:10), he is called the accuser of the brethren. 2. He is called “that old Serpent” (Rev. 20:1), indicating his guile, Lucifer, Son of the Morning. 3. (Isaiah 14:12) his title when he fell. 4. The word Devil means the accuser of slander and it is of Greek origin (Rev. 12:9). 5. Satan means adversary or resister and is of Hebrew origin; Apollyon means destroyers, the term Dragon speaks of his power. 6. He is also called prince of devils (Matt. 9:3,4, prince of this world, (Jn. 12:31), god of this world, and “prince of the air” (Eph. 2:2). 7. “Belial” is implied to be his title in (II Cor. 6:15). 8. In (II Kin. 1:2, 6, 16), he is referred to as Beelzebub, implying a prince of demons. 9. As Dr. Chafer says, “In power, prominence and importance, Satan appears in the Bible second only to the Trinity.” 7 Page -8-
  • 11. Chapter Five Conquering Power God’s spiritual dominion is the most astonishing power in the universe. I. God has always worked through humans to accomplish bring His kingdom to the earth. A. We must take heaven by force. 1. Just as God gave the people of Israel the promise then told them to take it be force. II. The Apostle Paul gave the Church the revelation knowledge of the powers and principalities in (Eph. 6). A. He disclosed that the church was in spiritual warfare gave us the keys to spiritual warfare by using our spiritual weapons. 1. Jesus Christ also told us in (Matt. 11:12), “The kingdom of heaven suffereth violence and the violent take it by force.” III. What does God say about principalities and powers? A. Jesus knows the subject of principalities and powers. 1. He witnessed Lucifer, the archangel of praise and worship, becomes a potentate of evil principalities and sinful powers. B. God says that Christ is the creator of all power. (Col. 1:16,) “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers; all things were created by and for him.” 1. God says Christ is the head of all power. 2. God elevated Christ above all principalities and powers according ( Col. 2:10). 3. “And ye are complete in him which is the head of all principality and power.” 4. (Eph. 1:21), “Far above all principality and power and might, and dominion and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come.” IV. God says that Christ destroyed the Devil’s power. A. According to (Col. 2:15), “An having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.” 1. God reveals wisdom to the Church. B. (Eph. 3:10), “To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in Page -9-
  • 12. heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God.” EXTREME SHIFT OF CONSCIOUSNESS V. The New Age Movement and many Christians talk about a radical shift of perception. A. The Neo-Pentecostal preachers claim new, direct revelations from God which free them from the chains of tired old doctrines. 1. A paradigm shift is a distinctly new way of thinking about old problems . . . 2. The problem is, you cannot accept the new paradigm unless you abandon the old. 3. "The largest single group within the Church today is that of the ignorant brethren!" 4. We use the text (1Thess. 4:13), where the Apostle Paul wrote, "But I would not have you to be ignorant brethren!" Page -10-
  • 13. Chapter Six Equipping Christians Christians must be prepared and equipped for spiritual warfare. I. From the earliest times men wore and used devices for the protection of the body in battle. B. The apostle Paul spoke of the armor in a figurative sense, with reference to righteousness as a protection to the follower of God against the assaults of evil or temptation. 1. They take upon themselves the whole armor of God, Helmet, Salvation; Breastplate, Righteousness; Girded Loins, Truth; Shod Feet; Shield, Faith, (Eph. 6:13-17). 12:23-33). Satan is not going to allow anyone to destroy his work without putting up very strong counteraction. A. His control must first be neutralized before Christians can release his captives. 1. Jesus asks this penetrating question, “how can anyone enter a strongman’s house and carry off his possession unless he first ties up the strongman?” 2. Then Jesus told us that we could enter his house. (Matt. 12:29). The King James Bibles reads, “bind the strongman.” 3. Indeed, binding the strong man is the first basic PRINCIPLE of spiritual warfare. 4. In fact, before any warfare opposing powers and principalities and wicked rulers and evil spirits can be won to release the nation, cities, individual, family, the strongman must be defeated, (Matt. 18: 18. 19. 20). VII. Once Satan’s power is bound, Jesus enters freely enters into his house and carries off Satan’s possessions. A. The territory is delivered and Satan loses control. Page -11-
  • 14. 1. The Greek word for spoil occurs in two forms, Diapazo and harapzo, which means “an intensive spoiling, plunder and snatching away.” 2. In (Lk. 11-22), the Greek word Skulon, conveys “arms stripped from a foe.” Putting it simply, Satan is stripped of his weapons, (Lk. 11:21,22). 3. The Greek word Deo means literally ties or fasten, to arrest or paralyze. The Christian reclaims everything that he has stolen. 4. Another words, Christians aggressively binding the power of demons and prohibits them from the carry-forward their assignments. Page -12-
  • 15. Chapter Seven Authority of Christians Christians receive their authority from Jesus Christ and all authority is vested in Him. I. Every believer can take to heart. “He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation . . . And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons . . .” (Mk 16:15-17). A. Knowing one’s spiritual authority and how to use their binding power, enables one to enter into spiritual warfare with faith to overcome. 1. Believers in Jesus Christ have every advantage to defeat demons. 2. The Word says, “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you,” (Lk. 10:19). 3. In addition, Jesus gives Christians power to use His name in (Matt. 28:28). “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given unto me, Therefore go . . .” 4. He gave us the legal right of absolute authority. His power is, “Far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come,” (Eph. 1:21). II. Early in this century, Mrs. Jesse Penn-Lewis noted, A. “It is . . . clear in Bible history that the manifestation of the power of God in The Pentecost, and through the Apostles, meant again an aggressive attitude to the powers of Darkness. 1. Therefore, the growth and maturity of the Church of Christ at the end of the dispensation will mean the same recognition, and the same attitude toward the Satanic hosts of the prince of the power of the air, with the same co-witness of the Holy spirit to the authority of the Name of Jesus, as in the early Church. In brief, that the Church of Christ will reach its high water mark, when . . . it knows how to ‘bind the strong man’ by prayer, ‘command’ the spirits of evil in the Name of Christ, and deliver men and women from their power. 8 Page -13-
  • 16. Chapter Eight Clash Between Evil Spirits There is an alarming onslaught of deceiving spirits attacking the Church of Jesus Christ. I. The Apostle Paul reveals these special manifestations of evil spirits through prophecies. A. He points to the deception of Christian believers in the latter times. 1. These deceptions are showing up in the supernatural realms. B. Many are following teaching ministers that are sending forth an army of teaching spirits. 1. They are leading people away from their biblically based spiritual knowledge of Jesus Christ. 2. Nevertheless, spiritual blindness and through lack of knowledge, many are not able to carry out a full war against this army of wicked spirits. 3. Many are shrinking from the subject of demons and call the war against them not credible. 4. They believe that if Jesus Christ is preached, it is not necessary to give attention to the existence of the devil. They think that they can ignore him. (Jam. 4:7-8), “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” C. Many Christians have never been taught the power of Jesus Christ. 1. They believe that they never enter into direct conflict with Satan and his hosts. 2. The church has actually been blinded by the powers of darkness and multitudes are being bound. 3. Scriptural answers are not practiced in the lives of the people. D. The clash between Satan and Jesus Son of God in the first Gospel is an ongoing one. 1. Satan is characterized as “the strong man”. 2. Jesus, the Son of God, in that He casts out demons by the Holy Spirit and brings people into the sphere of God’s reign, as one who “binds” him and “plunders his goods” (Matt. 12; 28-29 cf. also 8:39). 3. Conversely, Satan and those who do his bidding are depicted as doing violence to the kingdom of heaven as “plundering” it (Matt. 11:12). Page -14-
  • 17. 4. A case in point, is Satan’s enlistment of Peter in an effort to put Jesus at cross-purposes with his Father and to turn him away from the path that leads to the cross. 5. (He is revealed as Deity with absolute sovereignty and authority for eternity.16:21-23). 6. It is precisely to fend off onslaughts of Satan such as this that Jesus teaches his disciples to pray (Matt. 6:13).“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one” or (“from evil”). 7. On another level, Satan also exercises his malevolent will against Jesus through the Israelite crowds, (Matt. 11:16; 12:29, 16: 4). 8. Their leaders’, (Matt. 16:1; 19:2; 22:18. 35; 23,15). 9. Who asks Jesus for a sign or who tempt Him, not the least while he is hanging on the cross, (Matt. 27:39-42). II. Indeed through a parable of Jesus, Matthew makes the programmatic observation that Satan is the personal “enemy” of Jesus Messiah. A. Who has usurped in Israel the allegiance that is due Jesus alone, (Matt. 13:24-30). 1. The repeated attacks of Satan are not sufficient to induce Jesus to divest himself of His divine Sonship and to bring Him from his mission, (Matt. 16:21). Page -15-
  • 18. Chapter Nine Return to Bible Basics The Christian must return to biblical basics and biblical doctrines have always been important features of training the Saints to be strong and able to stand firm in God’s cause. I. Jesus Christ, as presented by The Father and also Jesus’ testimony is according to the Word, “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, “All power is given to me in heaven and in earth . . . ” (Matt. 28:18). A. He is revealed as Deity with absolute sovereignty and authority over the universe for eternity. B. When Jesus asked them about popular opinions of his identity, they recounted the rumors that he was John the Baptist or one of the ancient prophets. 1. Jesus then turned the focus on them: “But who do you say that I am?” Jesus insisted. 2. When Peter spoke for them all and revealed that Jesus was the Messiah and “Son of the living God,” Jesus blessed him for making that confession. “You are Peter {Petros}” Jesus said in a play on words, “and on this rock, {Petra} I will build my church,” (Matt. 16:18).9 C. The apostle Paul reports, that Jesus rescued us from the power of darkness and transferred us from the power of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of his beloved Son. 1. He writes in the beautiful poetic language of Jesus in (Col.1:13), describing Christ’s sovereignty. 2. A passage celebrates Christ as creator and preserver of the universe, supreme over every creature. 3. He is the head of his body, the church, and the first to conquer death. 4. Although in Christ “all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell,” Paul asserts, it was ultimately only through his human suffering -– through “the blood of His cross,” (Col. 1:19,20), “That he was able to reconcile all things to God and make peace.”10 D. Satan’s strategy in these last days is to get you to doubt the reality of Jesus and His power. Page -16-
  • 19. 1. However, for the most part, entire denominations today operate without the Holy Spirit. 2. They are devoid of the presence of Jesus, bankrupt of all spiritual gifts. 3. They practice a form of religion without any power, conviction or saving message. 4. They have cultivated friendship with sin and ridiculing the supernatural by tossing aside all teachings about heaven, hell, repentance and God’s judgment. 5. They are spiritually weak, and cold. The world no longer fears them. 6. They have no respect, and no influence and on society. Page -17-
  • 20. Chapter Ten Preach the Word With Power “So will they fear the name of the Lord from the west and East. His glory from the rising of the sun; when the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift a standard against Him,” (Isa. 59:1). I. The New Testament church made devils tremble and they turned the world up-side-down. A. It drove legions of demons and had faith and power to open prison doors, healed the sick and converted the masses of pagans. B. “Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ,” (Acts 19:19). C. If Paul preached and taught without signs and wonders following, his message would not have had its full impact. 1. It would not have been the gospel fully preached! He said to the Corinthians, 2. “Truly signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds,” (2 Cor. 12:12). II. We have a commission to preach the Word, walking in agreement with the power of Jesus Christ! A. “His delegated power to usward who believe,” (Eph. 1:6-15), 1. “To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence; Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him: In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your Page -18-
  • 21. salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory. Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints,” III. Jesus has been raised and seated at the right hand of Father God. He is ruling in power and distributing His power to the ones who believe. A. (Eph. 1:17-23), “That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to usward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all. IV. The God of the stars in their courses will fight for me against the foes that hinder me as I climb upward toward the home of God. (Judg. 5:19-20), A. “The kings came and fought, then fought the kings of Canaan in Taanach by the waters of Megiddo; they took no gain of money. They fought from heaven; the stars in their courses fought against Sisera. The river of Kishon swept them away, that ancient river, the river Kishon. O my soul, thou hast trodden down strength.” 1. (Judg. 5:31), “So let all thine enemies perish, O LORD. but let them that love him be as the sun when he goeth forth in his might. And the land had rest forty years. The Lord of hosts is with us. . . .” 2. He will command the whole universe for the making of a soul. Do you doubt me there? 3. Then let me remind you that for the purchase of my soul and yours, for its reconciliation and redemption. 4. He gave in one supreme gift that which was infinitely superior to all the stars--the One by Whose word they were made, and in Whose Page -19-
  • 22. might they have consisted through the ages. 5. He gave Him for the remaking of my broken, maimed, spoiled life. 6. The stars, the hosts of God need be, will be pressed into the service of the making of the saint, and into the service of the saint as he goes forth in toil for God. 11 B. (II Pet. 2:1-3), describes the methods of the end-time false ministers. 1. “But there were false prophets also among the people even as there shall be false teachers among you, you privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow there pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of the truth shall be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now o a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.”. V. The apostle Peter indicated that many would come in the name of Christ, yet deny Him as both Lord and Savior. A. The apostle also said that these same apostates would make merchandise of the members of the churches. 1. In other words, like the Nicolatians, they would use the money to gain advantage Revelations 2. The church has not moved into the last day mighty power God in America. 3. People go from place to place looking for a spiritual for spiritual thrills and things that make them feel good for moments of time. 4. They come to church and shout and laugh, then walk out to continue their perverse sin-lives. 5. REVIVAL HAS NOT COME TO AMERICA, laughing, barking like dogs, roaring like lions, shaking and trembling as if they have muscular disease, is not the end-time revival! B. When revival comes, it will come on the convicting-sanctifying-powerful wings of the Holy Spirit. 1. People will come to the majestic throne Jesus in repentance. 2. The Holy Spirit will come to cleanse the polluted temples through the deliverance power of our Lord Jesus Christ. 3. Remember Jesus drove those evil spirits out of Mary Magdalene before He opened the church door to her. Page -20-
  • 23. 4. She devotedly followed Him until her death. 5. If preaching alone could accomplish God’s desires, America would have been won to Christ long ago. The Church must see the divine power of God. Page -21-
  • 24. Chapter Eleven POWER OF GOD Paul evangelizing in Ephesus, after three months of bold preaching “. . . (certain) were harden, and believed not, but spake evil of the way before the multitude . . .” (Acts 19: 9). I. This was a godless, idolatrous city given over to the occult. A. The masses were obsessed with occult books and practices, magic, witchcraft. 1. After three months of bold preaching by Paul, the people only grew harder. 2. But then God began to perform special miracles through Paul’s hands. 3. Suddenly, the sick were being healed, the lames were given healthy limbs, the blind had their sight restored! 4. Paul’s ministry was a territorial-taking ministry. 5. He came to change the demonic winds over the entire city! 6. He came to take a harvest of souls for Jesus. 7. He could only do it through the supernatural power of Jesus. II. The demonic powers became riled and the seven sons of a priest named Sieva went to a certain man’s house to try to cast demons out of him, “in the name of Jesus preached by Paul.” A. The legion inside this man turned on the seven and attacked them, tearing their clothes and beating them wildly. 1. They ran for their lives, naked and screaming! 2. “And fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified,” 3. ( Acts 19:17). “These followers of Jesus have authority over demon powers.” 4. A great bonfire burned the witchcraft paraphernalia. 5. “Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver,” (Acts 19:19). B. Paul cast thousands of demons and the people willingly burned their magic, occult sciences, charms, witchcraft. Page -22-
  • 25. 1. And it happened because the people of Ephesus had been confronted with a gospel “fully preached --with signs, wonders and mighty deeds!” III. Power of Preaching A. The word of God tells us that there will be a church that does more than preach and teach and will join Paul when he boldly stated, “And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,” (I Cor. 2:4). IV. God’s power still works today! A. Challenges of demon powers in Argentina come from three elders from a Brethren Church in Buenos Aires, Argentina. They were incensed that the leader of a respectable Brethren congregation would support someone so controversial. 12 B. Pentecostal evangelist Carlos Annacondia is considered by some people as a messenger from God. More than two million people have registered decisions for Christ in Annacondia’s meetings in the past ten years. During the same period, some evangelical churches in the country have grown by 500 percent and in the greater La Plata area, forty-five churches were started as a result of his crusade there in 1984. C. They watched in horror and disbelief as people were carried into a special one hundred and a fifty-foot tent called the “intensive care unit” to receive prayer for deliverance from satanic bondage. The men demanded an answer. “Give us one good reason why we should support this man! We doubt that you can even find half a reason!” D. “You are wrong. I can give you not one but fifty-one thousand reasons. That is the number of people who have made public decisions for Christ since this crusade began!” If you believe in casting out devils in America, you will be considered as a fraud and many will call you everything they can think of that is evil. But our nation must open to reality that demons no longer reside on the foreign mission fields. E. They are very active here, in our nation, cities, schools, families. Our people are becoming confused and unable to survive the tremendous revivals of sex, New Age occult religion and the attack on Christian values. Only deliverance in Jesus’ name will free the people from the ties of sin. However, He needs servants willing to pay the price, that have the agape’ love and compassion to set the captives free! God is in the center Page -23-
  • 26. of deliverance. V. The Bible says that God is in the center of the deliverance ministry. (Lk. 11:20), “But if I with the finger of God cast out devils . . . ” A. Look at another Scripture,“The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations,” (2 Pet. 2:9). 1. “God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it,” (1 Cor. 10:13) 2. Our God is able, he knows how to deliver you! Page -24-
  • 27. Chapter Twelve Preparation for Deliverance Derek Prince writes, “Today, by divine providence, the veils of convention and carnality are once again being drawn aside, and the church of Jesus Christ is being confronted by the same manifest opposition of demon power that confronted the church of the New Testament. In these circumstances, the church must once again explore the resources of authority and power made available to her through the truth of the Scripture, the anointing of the Holy Spirit, and the Name and the Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.” 13 I. FREE CHOICE A. Jesus Christ will not step over one’s will. 1. People by their choice of receiving God’s provisions or rejection of those choices, choose to go to Heaven or Hell. 2. There is a warfare that is being waged for the souls of people. 3. The target of Satan only has to get your will to agree with sin. 4. Unfortunately, man’s fallen state, gives Satan an easy ticket to man’s will. 5. In this world revolution for souls, there is a vacuum that only Jesus Christ can fill. 6. Satan will try to fill this vacuum with sin, and worldly materialism. It won’t work. 7. People of sin, will only fall captives to Satan’s world. 8. Walking with Christ brings the greatest joy and happiness in the earth. 9. “. . . He hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted to proclaim liberty to the captives and the opening of the prison to them that are bound,” (Isa. 61:1). II. Throughout the ages, God is shown warring for His people to deliver them from bondage and captivity--when they wanted to be liberated, loosed, or set free. A. This principle is still true today. 1. A host of people who needs to be liberated and set free! 2. The Scriptures show that Jesus came to set the captives free. Page -25-
  • 28. 3. The Apostle Johns reveals this never-ending war in (Rev. 12:7-11), “And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, and prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. And I heard a loud voice, saying in heaven. Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony: and they loved not their lives unto the death.” Jesus is coming back for a delivered church! 14 Page -26-
  • 29. Chapter Thirteen Transference of Devils Transferences of spirits are shown in the Bible as occurring with people receiving the influence of both good and bad spirits. I. The Scripture warns us through the Apostle James that many times’ temptation is caused by man himself. A. Transference of evil spirits becomes man's transgression when he allows himself to be drawn away by his own lust of the flesh. 1. Then James states that when lust is conceived, it brings sin, and sin, when it is finished, brings death (Jam. 1:15). B. An individual must examine the temptation as to its source before he can determine how to overcome it. 1. "Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love them. Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God; for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man, But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth for sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death," (Jam. 1:12- 15). II. Evil spirits gain entrance to a person’s life through an agreement of engagement of sin. A. Paul tells us in (Rom. 13:14), “But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.” 1. Look at the Scripture, “He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil,” (I Jn. 3:8). 15 III. Daniel gives us the secret of survival in a heathen land as shown in (Dan. 1:8), “ A. ‘But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank; there he requested of the prince of the enunics that he might not defile himself.” 1. Daniel made a decision in his heart not to sin. Page -27-
  • 30. IV. Backsliding A. Backsliding is turning gradually, voluntarily, or insensibly from the knowledge, faith, love, and profession of God, after having once entered into a covenant relationship with Him. B. Some Christians open themselves to demonic attack by backsliding. 1. The Word of God says, “The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself,” (Prov. 14:14). 2. If a Christian backslides, grows cold in allegiance to Jesus Christ, Satan will come and first tempt that person to do wrong. 3. As the temptation is obeyed, and opens a doorway appears for a spirit to enter and take control. V. A man, will call him Jerry, came through the ministry and received a lot of deliverance. A. It stayed for a few month but then suddenly left the ministry. 1. One day Jerry returned. He was really in bad spiritual condition. 2. He said, “pastor, I got engaged. She was such a beautiful lady. In the beginning we kept our relationship holy. 3. But then, we fell into fornication. I moved into her house.” B. Jerry continued his story. “We were going to a church that praised the Lord for about three hours. 1. The preacher would only preach for about five or ten minutes. The church was packed out with people just like us. 2. There was not enough of God’s Word being taught to convict us. 3. So we felt good in church in our sin state. 4. He told me that one day his girl friend kick him out. 5. The devils began to torment him. 6. He said he wanted to get delivered. C. I warned Jerry that the deliverance ministry was nothing to play around with. 1. “You know Jerry, I can cast those devils out but if you go back, you’ll become seven times worse. 2. The Bible says that when an unclean spirit leaves, it goes to the dry places and finds no peace. 3. The demon will return to that person and if it finds it vacant, the demon will enter back into the body and bring seven worse devils.” Page -28-
  • 31. 4. Jerry said, “pastor, I don’t think I want to be seven times worse.” 5. I asked Jerry if he would commit his life to Jesus? 6. He said, “let me go back to church to see if my girl friend is there Sunday.” 7. He left and we didn’t see him for several months. 8. However one night, someone carried him into the church. 9. He was screaming in pain. 10. “It feels like a million knives cutting my guts.” 11. We cast the demons out. He was instantly free and delivered. D. The Apostle Paul writes about Christians’ backsliding in (I Tim. 2:25,26), “Holding faith and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck: of whom in Hymanaeus and Alexander, whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme?” VI. A person must renounce of all contact with evil spirits, such as, contacts with witchcraft, sexual sins, the forgiving of all other persons. A. The complete surrender of every area of the life to the Lordship of Jesus Christ is necessary. 1. A woman that I will call Judy came to the ministry. 2. She was a witch! 3. She was used by Satan to infiltrate churches. 4. When she came, I saw that she was into witchcraft. 5. Jesus told me to “just preach the Word to her.” B. One night, she asked for deliverance. 1. During the session, the devil spoke through her mouth. 2. “She belongs to me. 3. You can’t have her. She belongs to our coven.” 4. I told the demon to shut up and come out. 5. The demon said, “we’ve tried to get her to kill you, but she won’t do it.” 6. After the demons left, I asked her why she did not obey the devil and try to kill me. 7. She said, “I could not do it because you loved me. 8. No one ever loved me before.” C. It takes a lot of love and compassion to set victims of Satan free. 1. They will respond to the Word and love. Page -29-
  • 32. 2. It takes teaching and commitment for them to stay free. 3. They must totally sell out to Jesus. Page -30-
  • 33. Chapter Fourteen Sin Factor The deliverance ministry should never be entered into lightly. I. It is a deep work the minister has to be totally submitted to the Holy Spirit. A. It is a work of God in a person’s life. 1. It operates exactly like the doctrines of Salvation, and the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. 2. The person’s will is involved-One must want to be free to be delivered. 3. God will not step over the will of a human being. B. The first principle is that the person’s will be in agreement with the will of God. 1. The name of Jesus cannot coerce the human will. 2. Jesus never violated the human will and neither can be a deliverance minister. 3. “But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you,” (Matt. 12: 28). II. We see people backsliding at Meribah, (Exo. 17: 1-7); when Aaron made the Golden calf, (Exo. 32); after Joshua’s death, (Judg 1.:11ff); during Asa’s reign, (2 Chron. 15); during Hezekiah’s reign, (2 Chron. 30: 2:12). A. Again we see it in (1Sam. 15:11), It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And it grieved Samuel; and he cried unto the LORD all night.” B. We all remember Ananias, a covetous member of the church in Jerusalem. 1. After selling a plot of land, he and his wife Sapphira pretended to donate the entire proceeds to the church, while in reality they kept back a portion of it. 2. For their hypocrisy, they were punished with death, (Acts 5:1-11). 3. This is a clear picture of transference of spirits from the husband to the wife. Page -31-
  • 34. 4. She made the choice to walk in agreement with his evil actions and lies. 16 III. REPENTANCE A. The key to true deliverance is repentance. 1. This means to change one’s mind with regard too past or intended actions of personal conduct. 2. One must feel regret and determine in the heart to be dissatisfied with one’s past. 3. Sin must always be recognized, confessed and forsaken. 4. There can be no full deliverance where a person’s sin is a major factor, unless there is a frank recognition of it and a willingness with the help of God’s grace to give it up. 5. “For Godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of but the sorrow of the world worketh death,” (2 Cor. 7:10). B. According to The Eerdmans Bible Dictionary, the word, "Repentance" may represent only regret or remorse over a past thought or action, but in its fullest sense it is a term for a complete chance of orientation involving a judgment upon the past and a deliberate redirection for the future. 1. The Old Testament concept of repentance appears as both ritual action meant to demonstrate repentance, and the prophetic call for repentance. 2. Rituals such as fasting, dressing in sackcloth, sitting in ashes, and wailing were characteristic expressions of repentance. 3. In addition, the liturgical form of the lament might be employed by individuals or the community to express a strong sense of sin. 4. Such rituals were expected to be accompanied by authentic repentance.17 C. There is a call to "repentance" is going forth in this hour to the people of God. 1. One seeking deliverance must utterly renounce and hate all the demons and all of their various manifestations in his life. 2. If he clings knowingly to even one small facet of the demonic in his life, he can block the entire deliverance. Page -32-
  • 35. 3. God requires an unqualified and an unconditional surrender and a total renunciation of the enemy. 4. In the New Testament the prophetic call for repentance is echoed in the preaching of John the Baptist, who called Israel to repentance. 5. The motivation for repentance spoken of by John was the imminent arrival of the kingdom of God (Matt. 3:2). 6. This call to repentance was reissued in the proclamation of Jesus, (Matt. 4:17), which became a call to the discipleship. Also, read (Acts 3:19; 26:20; Gal. 3:25-26; Eph. 4:5; Rom. 11:20) for more scriptures dealing with repentance preached by the Apostles. IV. Without repentance of the possessed person, a deliverance minister can do them more harm by trying to cast evil spirits out of them. A. Our Lord Jesus warned us that seven worse spirits would return if the proper conditions were not met in deliverance. 1. True repentance must be dealt with before people are taken through deliverance. 2. If they are not truly repentant, they will not receive true DELIVERANCE because they have not met the conditions of the Lord. 3. “When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. Then goeth he, and take with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation,” (Matt. 1 2: 3 -5). V. I have been in the ministry for twenty-eight years. Over the years, I’ve seen many people come to deliverance ministers seeking help. A. They receive help but they refused to clean up their lives and walk uprightly before God. 1. Sadly after the deliverance workers spend a lot of time casting out the evil spirits for these people and after they return to their old sin life, they will become spiritual monsters. Page -33-
  • 36. 2. Sometime they will try to sit on the fence and not sell out to Jesus. 3. They will attempt to use a deliverance ministry receive relief from tormenting devils. B. Many deliverance ministers will continue to cast out their demons as these uncommitted sinners resume sinning over and over. 1. These people are looking for temporary relief from tormenting spirits, not a walk with the Lord Jesus Christ. 2. If a person is not willing to walk in faith and holiness before the Lord, don’t waste their time nor yours. 3. Pray for them and ask God’s mercy. 4. Don’t let them tie your time up by casting spirits out that they have no intentions of keeping out. 5. If God’s not working with them, don’t you either. VI. SALVATION A. As a prerequisite to deliverance, a person must be saved. B. What is salvation? 1. We must lead a person to the definite accepting of Jesus Christ, if he has not already done this, before we pray for healing or deliverance. 2. It there is no clear testimony to salvation, we first ask him to invite Jesus Christ into his heart orally, to reaffirm his faith. 3. (Rev. 3:20), “Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved,” (Acts 2:21). C. Salvation rests in the finished work of the son of God, Jesus Christ. 1. For further consideration of this truth, we should examine the words of the Apostle Peter contained in (Acts 4:10-12). "Then all of you and all the people of Israel should know that it was in the name of Jesus Christ, the Nazarene whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead; in His name this man stands before you healed. He is the 'stone rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone'. There is no salvation through anyone else, nor is there any other name under heaven given to the human race by which we are to be saved." VII. An example prayer for salvation. I confess in my heart that you have raised Him from the dead. I repent of all my sins, both of commission and omission. Jesus, come into my life and reign as my Lord and as my Savior. Thank you Father for saving my soul. Amen." Page -35-

  • 50. "The Occult" is a broad term referring to activities that seek knowledge and/or power from sources other than God. ‘ Sorcery, magic, psychics, palm-reading, fortune-telling, witchcraft, false religions and idol worship. ‘ Sexual sin is part of the occult because it involves seeking "carnal knowledge" of another person. Generational sin ‘ Our sin can bring consequences (curses) that affect our descendants down to the 4th generation. ‘ These curses often manifest as weaknesses to certain types of sin. ‘ For example, the descendants of a man who commits adultery may find themselves with a tendency toward adultery. ‘ The basis for this is found in (Ex. 34:6-7) and other scriptures. ‘ A simple way to evaluate the possibility of generational sin affecting you is to construct a family tree diagram, noting any patterns of sin that run down the family line. Lust and porn addiction work together like old friends. Lust simply is "intense or unbridled sexual desire" (Webster's). ‘ Most sex addictions, if not all, involve lust. Sexual Idolatry: Sex can be a powerful pleasure source. ‘ When we start making sexual pleasure the focus of our thoughts and activities, we are basically making it an idol. ‘ An idol is anything that has a higher priority than God in our life. ‘ Porn and other sexually charged material lead people to worship sex now more than ever. Unforgiveness Page -48-
  • 51. Bitterness, resentment and grudges are all examples of unforgiveness ‘ Since God was willing to forgive us for our sin, we must be willing to forgive others for what they have done to us. ‘ If we do not forgive, our healing and blessings from God will be blocked. ‘ Is there anyone in your life that you have not forgiven? (examples: co-workers, former boss, family members, pastor, former church members, abusers, etc.). Pride ‘ Pride is perhaps the most self-deceptive sin. ‘ There are so many ways it can manifest in our lives. ‘ Examples of pride indicators: criticism of others, failure to give Jesus control of our life, relying on our own provisions for happiness (instead of God), and ignoring or neglecting God's call for purity in our thoughts. ‘ If we're still living as king of our life instead of making Jesus king of our life, then we have a pride problem. Sin memories ‘ One of the problems with sexual sin is that it creates lasting memories. ‘ Our thoughts can easily return to those memories instantaneously. Its amazing how we can forget much of what we learned during school, yet retain the memory of one porn picture for years. ‘ With God's help, we can cast down those memories and train our minds to pure thoughts. Cherished memories Page -49-
  • 52. Cherishing our memories of our sexual exploits reinforces the memories and leads to prolonged failure in addiction. ‘ Even after shutting off the porn input, we can still be porn addicts by lusting over our memories! ‘ For example, my cherished memories of sex sin were difficult for me to give up to God. ‘ I had used those memories to medicate the pain of insecurity and rejection over the years. ‘ I found myself fondly remembering the sexual exploits I had done as a single. God showed me that this was despicable and that I needed to see those exploits for the sin that they were. ‘ God helped me die to the pleasure of those memories and I was able to turn away from them. ‘ Are you cherishing any memories of sexual sin in your thoughts? Unwanted memories ‘ More and more people report having been sexually abused at some point in their lives. ‘ Sexual abuse often causes trauma and unwanted memories. ‘ Unforgiveness is also a common foothold that may be involved. ‘ Recovery from sex abuse can begin through prayer, by asking God to heal the emotional and spiritual wounds that were created. ‘ If unforgiveness is involved, we can ask God to give us the ability to forgive the perpetrator through the blood of Christ. ‘ Forgiving the perpetrator does not mean that we are condoning the abuse. ‘ These are often difficult issues to work through, and we encourage you to seek prayer and Christian counseling if Page -50-
  • 53. you have been sexually abused. Soul ties ‘ Soul ties can be created through sex, pornography or unhealthy relationships. ‘ Soul ties can act like curses and hinder our walk to freedom, especially when we've had multiple sexual partners. ‘ We can break soul ties through prayer, specifically addressing these points: ‘ 1) Confess the sin committed ‘ 2) Name the persons involved ‘ 3) Ask the Lord to sever the soul ties ‘ 4) Ask the Lord to restore us to wholeness. Secrecy ‘ Sex addiction likes to stay in the dark, where it can continue to consume our life. ‘ Keeping our sin secret from others blocks God's blessings on our lives (Prov. 28:13). ‘ Bringing it to the light can be fearful and painful, but once we do, we open the door for God's healing and forgiveness (1 Jn 1:9; Ja. 5:15-16). Other common strongholds ‘ An unbridled tongue: constant joking, sarcasm, and gossip allow evil influence in our lives (Ja. 3:6,16). ‘ Hatred: Hatred allows darkness to blind us (1 Jn 2:9-11). ‘ Stingy spirit: Refusing to honor God with our money blocks the path of God's blessings on our lives (Gal. 6:6-9). Page -51-
  • 54. Greed ‘ Love of Money ‘ The desire to be rich brings temptation and a snare. ‘ It causes people to fall into foolish and harmful lusts. ‘ The love of money is a root of all kinds of evil (1 Tim. 6:6-12,17- 19). ‘ A prayer for freedom and healing. Confession brings healing and purification (1 Jn 1:9; Ja. 5:15- 16). Father God, I believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God, who was crucified and resurrected from the dead. I confess that I have sinned by _____________(list the footholds). I renounce these sins and the use of my body for any sinful purpose. Father God, I ask for your forgiveness through the blood of Jesus Christ. I close the door to the devil and his work, and I bar it with the blood of Jesus Christ. Thank you for forgiving me and cleansing me!” Commitment: secures your resolve to serve God, not sin (Ro/ 6:13,16,19) "Father God, I commit myself, body, soul and spirit, to serving you wholeheartedly in the area of ________________. I will no longer present my members as instruments for sin, but rather, for righteousness. Please strengthen me by the Holy Spirit to walk in purity in this area. Thank You. In Jesus' name, Amen."
