These are the blank (un marked up) slides from the hour long online presentation on using Liberating Structures in online learning. Here is the description: "Come explore and play with Liberating Structures (LS). I've been facilitating since, what, 1976? When my friend Keith McCandless showed me this work he was doing on Liberating Structures, a set of 33 structures you can string together to ignite and engage the best in people, I knew he had put his finger on the sparks and patterns of success I'd experienced in my work. What Keith did was name things, note the underlying structure, thus creating all at once a set of constraints that opens up unlimited possibility. I love dualities. Paradoxes. IN this session, I'll crack open the door to LS and we'll play with a few of them -- we're still in the nascent phase of truly understanding them online. So expect learning, not content!"

1.First, think quietly on your
own about the question
you
“How do
engage
learners online?”
2.Next we are going to break
up into pairs. Look at the
Participant list in the upper left
hand corner of your screen. I
will pair you off two by two.

This is now a two person chat. Hover
your mouse over the person you want to

10. Liberating Structures
Introducing tiny shifts in how we meet, plan,
decide and relate to one another
• Simple: requires only a few
• Inclusive: together, everyone
• Expert-less: beginners can
• Multi-scale: works for
minutes to introduce
succeed after a first experience
• Results-focused: likely to
generate better-than-expected,
innovative results
• Rapid cycling: fast iterative
rounds are very productive
is invited to shape next steps
everyday solutions, big
projects, strategy, and
transforming movements
• Seriously fun: boosts joy,
freedom & responsibility
• Self-spreading: easy to copy
without formal training
16. TRIZ
I don’t think we’ll have
time to do this one, but I
think it has great
relevance in
learning/teaching
contexts….

would you re-establish to increase
learner engagement?"
