The most crucial step in sewing your own lingerie is taking accurate body
measurements. Once you are able to take accurate body measurements and
apply that when cutting the garment, everything else falls in place. If you want
some custom made panties, you must take hip, waist, waist to hip and crotchet
depth measurements. This will help you come up with a panty pattern that will
perfectly fit into your body. This pattern is essential in helping you to come with
a fitting leg curve and waist height. You should note that leg openings lie on
the front of the panty. You could also use an existing pair of panties to come
up with the perfect fit.
Tip: To get accurate waist measurements, place a non-stretching ribbon along your natural waistline. This will act as a
guide.
Bras will require accurate measurement in order to have a perfect fit. The bra cup and the band must properly fit. If you

consideration various measurements such as the bust’s fullest level measurements, high bust (under your arms) and

Finally take measurements of the back and front part. Take the measurements starting from the shoulder down to the
crotch seam along the center back curve. If you are making a pattern where the straps are separate, take the
measurements from the bust point to the back waist. The pattern can be altered by adjusting the front and the back
region. This should be the area between the waist and the bust. These measurements should be recorded on a paper.
If you are working on full-body lingerie, you can skip the daunting task of taking these measurements. Your high bust
measurements can suffice all the pattern needs.
You may use a smaller pattern than the bust measurements to give you close fitting lingerie that does not sag. Hip
measurements can be adequately used to determine the pattern for lower-body garments, for example the panty.
Always remember to take into consideration other factors that may come into play such as the fabric stretch.
