Deborah alessi inspired by her abusive past to help victims of violence
1. Deborah Alessi inspired by her abusive past to help victims of
violence
Deborah Alessi used her abusive past to set up an organization that helps women who have
disfigured as a result of this kind of abusive. She chose to leave her abusive partner at the age
of 20 and went ahead to find a great man whom she got married to and later started the Face
Forward organization.
Deborah is now 40 years and she remembers that she never wanted to become a typical
housewife after getting married to David. Although she wasn’t working she used to hear tales
of women becoming disfigured as a result of the physical abuse inflicted on them. She knew
deep down that these women needed help.
The fact that her husband was a plastic surgeon proved to be a perfect opportunity to help
women who have been disfigured.
Deborah says that she feels like her calling was to help women erase these physical scars of
abuse. “These marks are a constant reminder of abuse and can show as scars, burns, cuts,
persistent bruising or immobility,” she says. She goes on to explain that they can hinder one’s
ability to have a great social life, get jobs or even move on with their lives.
Face forward has been able to provide many women with the opportunity of getting their life
back that would have been difficult to do on their own.
