1924-1929 were considered the Golden Years of the Weimar Republic due to economic and political stability during this period. Foreign minister Stresemann secured loans from the US and improved relations with France and Britain. However, Germany was heavily in debt to the US. The Great Depression plunged Germany into economic crisis when the US recalled its loans. This increased unemployment and hurt the Weimar government. It also boosted support for the Nazis as people turned to extreme parties during the instability.
