3. CHARITY SPONSOR
The Friends of Hawaii Charities (Friends), a 501(c)(3), was formed
River of Life Mission in 1998 as a result of the shared vision and collaboration of a group
of Hawaii business and community leaders to generate needed
funding for Hawaii’s charitable organizations that benefit women,
children, youth, elderly, those with special needs, and the
impoverished.
The Friends’ principal fundraising event is the Sony Open in Hawaii
PGA TOUR golf tournament held at Waialae Country Club each
January. Through a charity partnership with The Harry & Jeanette
Weinberg Foundation, the Friends have generated more than $12
million over the past 14 years benefiting over 350 Hawai‘i charities.

Mission
Friends of Hawaii Charities activates financial resources from the
private sector and spirited volunteerism from the community, in
concert with the extraordinary natural resources of the state, to
produce sports and cultural events that generate funds for qualifying
not-for-profit endeavors in Hawaii benefiting its women, children,
youth, and needy, primarily in the areas of intervention, health, and
