1. Story telling from second placement:
These two weeks I have been participating at many different types of physical activities so I tried
different styles and of course different levels of performance. The first class of Pilates with ball,
was very hard, even if I practiced it before.
The reason is that it was an advanced level and it request a very good balance and also a lot of
strength.
So every student performed as they were prepared because in every exercise exists easier ways
to do it, so everyone should know their level.
Every time the teacher changed the exercise she came for the corrections and for helpful advices
making a safe practice and also for a consciousness workout.
The main objective in a good practice is to understand what muscles are working out and how,
because the exercise is not only for the body, to achieve the objective you should be aware of the
move and what it happens inside.
That being said, the next class which was after the weekend trip, teacher decided to adjust the
tempo and the difficulty of the exercises because students were very tired and the hour of the
practice was early in the morning.
I practiced without knowing about the trip, so I was confused about the adjustments, because I
was prepared psychically for the difficulty of the exercises, so I asked Linda and I found out the
reason.
Then everything got shape. Doesn’t matter what you have planned for the lesson, you as an
instructor/teacher, you should always listen the students problems, and to consider their mood
and the other activities they are taking part in. That made the difference between a good teacher
and a regular one.
2. Democracy in intraethojskole:
Being a democratic school, they usually have two important meetings per week with all the
others and a little one only with the members of the group and their teacher.
These meetings inspired me for the tuition lessons where children can express their opinion
about the classes and about the activities they want to do, or the ideas they have in general.
So at the first meeting we faced the team who added whatever they wanted for the program for
that week: a match between teachers and students, more hours for the swimming pool, ball
games and also the willing of watching a movie together at the cinema.
The other one proposed a bicycle trip, or charitable activities and so on. What I‘ve noticed is that
they have the freedom of organize and propose whatever they want, they have full support from
the teachers, what means a lot for the good development of the classes and activities themselves.
When you have the opportunity to choose some activities for the schedule the other classes from
the curriculum will be easier accepted to take part in.
Students always choose the activities that makes them happy, because they have an inner
motivation to participate.
Another aspect could be that at physical activities and the other ones they propose, students
develop the social skills and of course the democratic values.
Maybe sometimes, students will remember more the activities in which they were involved, and
also the activities they had organized, because it’s about their preferences.
In my opinion this kind of meetings are the most representative acts of democracy and I think
that they should exist in every school. It gives you the opportunity to express yourself and to act
like in the society, being responsible for your acts.
Also discussing some problems occurred during the week with the students can give some
solutions, good for both parts. And the time for solutioning the problems will be shorter. For
example they spoke about the food, that sometimes is not enough, or about the duties they have
every week.
In this type of meetings I observed that teachers and also students are very opened to this kind of
discussions, which leads to a good relationship between them and of course to a good learning
process.
