2. About Nanominerals Corp. Like many other exploration and mining companies, Nanominerals Corp. (NMC) is in the business of locating, exploring, and discovering economic ore deposits. But make no mistake; NMC truly is a unique company. (NMC) is the fusion of two drastically different industries - the age-old mining industry and the up-and-coming nanotechnology field. This distinction is controversial as NMC's technology challenges the traditional thinking prevalent in the majority of currently operating mineral resource companies. The company has built a large reservoir of scientific data which has led to irrefutable, tangible evidence of naturally occurring nanoscale precious metals. NMC is leading the charge to bring credibility and economic viability to these new types of nanomineral deposits.
3. Nanominerals Company History Nanominerals Corp. (NMC) grew into a nanomineral company quite serendipitously. Our involvement in mineral exploration began in a project with a 10+ year history. Several companies spent substantial sums of money hoping to solve the complexities of a non-conventional deposit. Precious metals were extracted but results were inconsistent and without scientific explanation when using "industry standard" geological and metallurgical methods. For example, leaching methods would extract precious metals from material on which standard fire assay methods would report no value. NMC set out to scientifically explain why these precious metal deposits were different and put the skeptics' arguments to rest. This journey led our scientific team to a place they did not expect, with far-reaching applications - the emerging field of nanotechnology.
4. Nanominerals Company Objectives The objective of Nanominerals Corp. (NMC) is to use it's newly developed intellectual property and proprietary technology to locate, identify and extract precious metals from these nanomineral deposits. Using exclusive search models, NMC identifies precious metal "targets" (areas with a high probability of containing economic grades of precious metals). We then conduct a detailed investigative process on these targets using cutting edge science to prove the presence and economic potential of precious metals contained therein. NMC's goal is to create wealth and opportunity by bringing our resources into potential projects through several subsidiary companies. Using our success in each project, NMC expects to provide its investors with a substantial return on investment.
5. Nanominerals’ Exploration Advantage One of the largest challenges facing mineral exploration companies today is identifying properties with a high probability of containing economic grades of precious metals. Companies continue to scour the globe using traditional geological, geophysical, and metallurgical methods. While these tools have worked to varying degrees in the past, NMC believes that nanoexploration methods (using the newly developed science of nanotechnology) will yield a high level of success.
6. Nanotechnology The word nanotechnology itself is a combination of nano, from the Greek "nanos" (or Latin "nanus"), meaning "Dwarf", and the word "Technology." Nano refers to 10-9, or one billionth. Therefore, a nanometer is one billionth of a meter. For comparison: four gold atoms lined up side by side would be about one nanometer wide a human hair is about 50,000 nanometers thick!
7. Nanotechnology Forbes Magazine defines it as: "the precision placement, measurement, manipulation and modeling of sub-100 nanometer scale matter, somewhere from 4 to 400 individual atoms. This range is important because when we get down to this small size, the classical laws of physics change to give us novel properties that can be harnessed and exploited. Manipulating atoms which combine to form molecules, the building blocks of our natural world allows scientists to create new building blocks which produce new materials with the exact properties they desire: smaller, stronger, tougher, lighter and more resilient than what has come before."
8. The Science of Nanotechnology The "nanoscale" can be thought of as dimensions of less than 100 nm. At this scale, matter behaves differently than it does at the bulk scale ( > 100 nm). A metal's color, melting point, strength, conductivity, magnetism, and crystal structure can be drastically different at the nanoscale. The identification and recognition of the unique properties of nanoscale particles has only come to light in the past decade with the development of instruments such as the high resolution scanning electron microscope with energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM/EDS) and the transmission electron microscope with energy dispersive X-ray analysis (TEM/EDX). Over the past several years, Nanominerals Corp. (NMC) has applied this cutting-edge science to its mineral exploration ventures. Using specialized instruments and scientific investigations involving SEM/EDS, TEM/EDX, Auger Analysis, FTIR (Fourier Transform Infra Red), XPS (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) and with the recognition of unique physical and chemical properties of nanoscale minerals, NMC believes it has defined a new class of ore deposit. For more information on the Nano Scale, read The Weird World of the Nano Scale
9. Nanotechnology and Mineral Exploration There is an entire class of ore deposits that, until now, have gone unnoticed. Within these deposits, nanoscale precious metal particles are often coated with refractory (chemical and/or heat resistant) nanoscale minerals. Because of this refractory coating, precious metals are not always detected using industry standard metallurgy such as fire assay. Using nanotechnology, Nanominerals Corp. (NMC) has repeatedly identified nanoscale precious metals and nanominerals in numerous geologic samples (drill holes, channel samples, pits, etc.). Armed with this new knowledge, NMC's scientists have developed new nanometallurgical methods to extract these precious metals.
10. Nanotechnology and Mineral Exploration The mining industry has gone through quantum shifts whenever the "next level" of identification or recovery is achieved and commercialized. The identification of micron, Carlin-type gold deposits in the 1960's and the commercialization of cyanide heap leaching on low-grade ore deposits in the 1970's significantly transformed the mining industry. The recognition of the existence of nanoscale precious metal deposits and their economic extraction may well represent the next quantum shift in the mining industry. The traditional mining industry is just scratching the surface of the potential of nanotechnology as it relates to mineral exploration. A conference was recently held in Vancouver, BC, "GOLD 2003 - New Industrial Applications for Gold", and was sponsored by the "World Gold Council" and the "Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum". Nanotechnology was a major discussion topic and several papers were presented.
11. The Future of Nanotechnology Nanotechnology is very interdisciplinary. It encompasses chemistry, physics, biology, electronics, and material science. For this reason, many believe nanotechnology will yield more useful innovations than traditional research. Forbes magazine predicts that: "nanotechnology will lead to incredible advances, from mundane items like scratch-proof glass to precision drug delivery systems to computers the size of a sugar cube which could hold the entire Library of Congress. " The realization of Nanotechnology and its implications are just beginning. Present and future opportunities are abundant and NMC truly believes in the infinite possibilities of this technology.
