The document discusses the stylistic influences and planned structure for a documentary about a friend, Jon, becoming a stand-up comedian. Some influences include Louis Theroux's handheld camera style and incorporating comedy. The target audience is 17-25 year olds interested in comedy and documentaries. Scenes will be filmed at homes, clubs, and while traveling, in an informal style showing Jon's rise to fame without talking heads. The narrative will include voiceovers and interviews cut between locations to keep it interesting.
The Fine Line Between Honest and Evil Comics by Salty Vixen
I want to become.... a comedian, documentary series
1.
2. Some of the stylistic influences I have looked at
are based on the style of Louis Theroux, which is
using a hand held camera, also how he
sometimes has himself in the shot doing
something in the documentary but having a
voice over, and sometimes talking while in the
shot. I also like the style how some of the
documentaries have comedic parts in them too
which is what I would like.
3. The audience I would choose to watch this
documentary would be mainly people who like
comedy and like documentaries, interesting
documentaries the age range would be from 17-
25 as I aim to air it at around 9, 10pm in the
evening on channel 4, 4od as my programme
would be a documentary series I aim for that
type of the day because it has some form of bad
language in it, so it would need to be after the
watershed, but is still for the same age range.
4. The visual style I would like it to have is mainly
informal and relaxed, I would like it to work
well with the way the scenery is chosen and
the way it is set out but you will see bits of
comedy, you will see a presenter, people
involved in the documentary, you will hear
talking, training, games and you would also
see training and other parts to do with the
doc. I want it to sound funny and also have
facts and interesting things about the subject
of the documentary.
5. The surroundings I intend to choose will be at
houses, in clubs, possibly out and about travelling
from one place to another.
No talking heads, completely natural so it can
show his ‘rise to fame’ .
Cutting from one place to another, keeping it
interesting and making everyone want to watch
it and keep it interesting.
6. My narrative structure I would like to be where
part of the documentary is voice over from me
and my friend Jon and part of it is standing in
front of the camera talking, I will have most of
the documentary either hand held or on a
stand. The way that I intend for it to be is on a
tripod.
7. This is how some double page looks, I intend to
have on my double page spread an interview
from my friend who is going to be the main
subject in my documentary, and then it will also
have about his journey and make the double
page look funny and maybe photographs of him
doing the comedy itself.
8. I would like my documentary to be featured in
The guardian, I chose this newspaper because
The guardian because it always features docs
from channel 4 which is the channel I would be
putting my documentary on, and also the fact
that it is a funny documentary it will get more
people interested.
9. The roles in my documentary will be:
Hope- Starring as a voice over and also talking in
person to the camera
Jon- Starring as the becoming a stand up
comedian
Camera Person- Filming from another camera.
