One of the most important new features in this release, applicable to both XenApp and XenDesktop 7.5,
is the support of hybrid cloud provisioning
Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp have been redesigned as cloud ready solutions for delivering both
applications and desktops on any type of cloud infrastructure
by integrating with any virtual infrastructure technology, storage infrastructure and complex network
topologies to deliver a single, unified platform. XenDesktop and
XenApp now enable enterprise IT to build a common service delivery architecture for all Windows apps
and desktops leveraging common policies and tools that
simplify deployment and management.
By delivering Windows apps and desktops as a cloud‐like service, XenDesktop and XenApp can handle
multiple versions and instances of both Windows Server
and desktop operating systems from a single platform. XenDesktop and XenApp are built to leverage any
virtual infrastructure or cloud management platform.
Whether using the included XenServer, leveraging the performance and rising popularity of Microsoft
Hyper‐V, or building on an existing VMware vSphere infrastructure, XenDesktop is built to be hypervisor,
storage and network agnostic.
© 2014 Citrix. Confidential.11
Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp are the first solutions to be fully integrated for cloud solutions. Virtual
apps and desktops can be deployed on popular cloud platforms
including Apache CloudStack based Citrix CloudPlatform or Amazon Web Services (AWS) making it easier
than ever to dynamically expand the infrastructure footprint.

The latest generation of Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop delivers apps, data and desktops on a unified
platform, allowing organizations to define and scale their virtual infrastructure in more ways, quickly,
easily and economically. Citrix Director and EdgeSight complement this unified solution with
comprehensive, integrated management and monitoring for every part of the Citrix environment.
Customers can speed to resolution for user issues, monitor network performance and user experience,
and gain insight into current trends to better plan for the future
Desktop Director has been designed to make sure level 1 support can quickly and easily resolve the most
common issues and make end user who is having problems productive right away .
Most common problem – “I can’t connect”
Instrumented XD to provide various failure causes for connection and machine failures to determine root
cause
End user experience starts with logon
Director breaks the logon into each of the steps, providing the analysis so the admin is able to pinpoint
exactly where the slowdown is occurring

Let me start by quickly first explaining what is AppDNA for audiences who are not familiar with it.
Citrix AppDNA application migration software enables enterprises to confidently discover, automate,
model and manage applications for faster application migration, easier application virtualization and
streamlined application management. Taking application migration and management to a new level,
AppDNA software combines insight about applications with highly accurate application testing,
remediation and compatibility to reduce project time and cost. AppDNA software uncovers the
knowledge needed to guide business decisions about application compatibility, migration, management
and long‐term application portfolio evolution.
As Citrix admins, we all recognize how time consuming and painful application validation process is,
regardless if it’s from physical to virtual or migrating apps from one version of XenApp to the next.
Whether you have a well‐documented app validation cycle, or “3‐strike” rule – if app doesn’t work in 3
tries, you skip that app, or light a candle, and say a prayer and hope the apps will just work…. One thing
we can agree on is that… there must be a better way. At Citrix Synergy last May, we introduced the
AppDNA‐SBC module as a feature of Platinum editions of XenDesktop 7 and XenApp 6.5 Feature Pack.
With the 7.5 release for XenApp and XenDesktop, Platinum edition customers will be able to benefit
from the full feature set of AppDNA.

• Let’s now talk about a  popular feature of XenDesktop, Remote PC Access which allows employees the
flexibility and mobility of remoting into business applications located on their existing desktop from
any device. Remote PC Access has been a feature of XenDesktop for almost a year now. Customers love
the fact they can use this feature to connect to physical PC’s at their desktop, from their Receivers,
over HDX. One of the most requested feature has been the of Wake‐on‐LAN (WoL) support. In
XenDesktop 7.5, we now support WoL via Microsoft Systems Center
• Why System Center ConfigMgr 2012 R2? Citrix and Microsoft have a rich history of partnership, and
this new area of integration demonstrates that continued commitment. It was also very apparent
through the course of customer conversations, that the bulk of Remote PC Access customers looking
for Wake on LAN integration were in the midst of a transition to, or planning on deploying ConfigMgr
2012 R2. By embracing ConfigMgr 2012 R2 in this way, it provides unique capabilities that only our two
companies can provide together.

HDX improves the experience of Citrix Receiver users working in supported Windows applications and
published server desktops on mobile devices. HDX includes a native interface control channel allowing
Windows Apps to be refactored for a touch experience while leveraging device features such as multi‐
touch gestures, native menu controls, camera and GPS support. Many touch features are available
natively in XenDesktop and do not require any application source code changes to activate.
Native touch features include:
• Automatic display of the keyboard when an editable field has the focus
• Windows combo box control replaced by larger picker control
• Multi‐touch gestures such as pinch and zoom
• Inertia‐sensed scrolling
• Touch pad or direct cursor navigation
Additional capabilities can be implemented using the HDX Windows Mobile Application SDK enabling
enterprise developers to update Windows applications just once for mobile devices using familiar
Windows programming languages. The SDK includes over 50 APIs. Examples of programmable mobility
enhancements include:

Control how buttons are used on the mobile device; use local user interface controls instead of Windows
controls
Autosense and refactor apps to use available resolution and horizontal layout on a tablet or smaller
mobile device screen
Integrate device functions such as telephone, SMS, GPS, and camera with Windows app workflows

• With technological advances in XD7, users experience smooth motion video even on challenging
network connections. We’re seeing 18 frames per second on 800 Kbps 3G connections, more than
double what was previously possible with such limited bandwidth. WAN link scalability is being
increased over 100% with no reduction in video quality. And our new technology can even deliver a
good experience playing HD videos over low speed connections by reducing the bit rate by an order of
magnitude.
• H.264 decoding is included in Windows Receiver, Linux Receiver 13.0 (August 2013), iOS Receiver 5.8
(released 2013‐07‐08), Android Receiver 3.4 (July 2013), Mac Receiver 11.8 (June 2013) and HTML5
Receiver 1.3 (March 2014).

Citrix Storefront is the successor to Citrix Web Interface for XenApp and XenDesktop and helps IT enable
enterprise mobility – work and play from anywhere, from virtually any device. It also helps IT improve
enterprise security and simplify XenApp and XenDesktop deployments. StoreFront is essential for
managing multi‐site XenApp and XenDesktop deployments. It’s built on a modern, flexible and powerful
framework and now provides innovative tools for IT customization for XenApp and XenDesktop
deployments.
Introduced in conjunction with XenApp/XenDesktop 7.5, transitioning to StoreFront 2.5 has never been
easier or more rewarding.
Here are the highlights and look for accompanying blogs with more detail:
An updated Receiver for HTML5 engine adds  breakthrough performance for zero install access to
business applications and desktops from popular browsers as well as Google Chrome devices. The new
HTML 5 Receiver also enhances the graphics experience for both 2D and 3D applications and provides a
very good audio‐video experience at significantly lower bandwidth than before. It also includes an
improved in‐session toolbar for clipboard and windows security desktop.
Pass‐through Authentication to Receiver for Web enables users on a domain joined end points to open
Internet Explorer and access resources using Receiver for Web without an additional authentication step.
One of the most asked for features.
21
© 2014 Citrix. Confidential.22
Smart Card Authentication to Receiver for Web enables Linux, Mac OSX, or Windows users to access
Receiver for Web using their smart cards for authentication. Domain‐joined Windows users with the
SSON service configured enter their pin only once. Mac, Linux, and non‐domain Windows users enter
their PIN for each app/desktop launch.
NetScaler Gateway single smart card sign‐on to Receiver for Web. Storefront 2.0 introduced support for
native Receivers to sign in with a Smartcard via NetScaler Gateway. Storefront 2.5 enables users to access
Receiver for Web via NetScaler Gateway using their smart card. Domain‐joined Windows users arranged
for pass through authentication (SSON) enter their PIN only once. In all other cases, users will need to
enter their PIN for each app/desktop launch.
Mandatory Applications automatically makes a specific set of apps or desktops available to all users.
Mandatory resources are silently added for each user. Works similarly to the existing “auto‐provisioned
apps” functionality but does not offer a way for Receiver for Web users to remove them. Administrators
can mark individual resources as mandatory (using the existing keyword mechanism in the
XenApp/XenDesktop admin console) with the keyword “mandatory” or configure a Store to make all the
resources mandatory.
Anonymous (Unauthenticated) enables StoreFront to provide access to XenApp 6.5 sessions without
authenticating. Generally this is used where applications themselves require their own authentication.
Allows administrators to optionally make a specific Store support anonymous (unauthenticated) access.
22
© 2014 Citrix. Confidential.23
Parallel resource enumeration.  Where Web Interface and earlier Storefront releases enumerate
resources by contacting each Delivery Controller in turn. Storefront 2.5 communicates to all providers at
the same time and aggregates responses when all have responded.
Resource filtering by types or keywords enables you to filter which applications were shown to a user by
adding an artificial description element to the application name. In Receiver for Web, it has been
possible to filter out the display of either Applications or Desktops but the same level of control was not
available at the Store level.
And last but not least the Store Customization SDK enables you to expose only apps or desktops to users
or selectively restrict access based on the user’s location, the type of devices the user has, or smart
access policies. While most simple filtering requirements should be handled by simple configuration
changes, some customers have complex business requirements that require custom logic to be applied
to the decision making process of showing resources to users and adjusting launch parameters. Stay
tuned for more details and example projects.

  • 10. © 2014 Citrix. Confidential.10 One of the most important new features in this release, applicable to both XenApp and XenDesktop 7.5,  is the support of hybrid cloud provisioning Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp have been redesigned as cloud ready solutions for delivering both  applications and desktops on any type of cloud infrastructure  by integrating with any virtual infrastructure technology, storage infrastructure and complex network  topologies to deliver a single, unified platform. XenDesktop and  XenApp now enable enterprise IT to build a common service delivery architecture for all Windows apps  and desktops leveraging common policies and tools that  simplify deployment and management. By delivering Windows apps and desktops as a cloud‐like service, XenDesktop and XenApp can handle  multiple versions and instances of both Windows Server  and desktop operating systems from a single platform. XenDesktop and XenApp are built to leverage any  virtual infrastructure or cloud management platform.  Whether using the included XenServer, leveraging the performance and rising popularity of Microsoft  Hyper‐V, or building on an existing VMware vSphere infrastructure, XenDesktop is built to be hypervisor,  storage and network agnostic.
  • 11. © 2014 Citrix. Confidential.11 Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp are the first solutions to be fully integrated for cloud solutions. Virtual  apps and desktops can be deployed on popular cloud platforms  including Apache CloudStack based Citrix CloudPlatform or Amazon Web Services (AWS) making it easier  than ever to dynamically expand the infrastructure footprint.

  • 15. © 2014 Citrix. Confidential.15 Let me start by quickly first explaining what is AppDNA for audiences who are not familiar with it. Citrix AppDNA application migration software enables enterprises to confidently discover, automate,  model and manage applications for faster application migration, easier application virtualization and  streamlined application management. Taking application migration and management to a new level,  AppDNA software combines insight about applications with highly accurate application testing,  remediation and compatibility to reduce project time and cost. AppDNA software uncovers the  knowledge needed to guide business decisions about application compatibility, migration, management  and long‐term application portfolio evolution. As Citrix admins, we all recognize how time consuming and painful application validation process is,  regardless if it’s from physical to virtual or migrating apps from one version of XenApp to the next.  Whether you have a well‐documented app validation cycle, or “3‐strike” rule – if app doesn’t work in 3  tries, you skip that app, or light a candle, and say a prayer and hope the apps will just work…. One thing  we can agree on is that… there must be a better way. At Citrix Synergy last May, we introduced the  AppDNA‐SBC module as a feature of Platinum editions of XenDesktop 7 and XenApp 6.5 Feature Pack.  With the 7.5 release for XenApp and XenDesktop, Platinum edition customers will be able to benefit  from the full feature set of AppDNA.
  • 16. © 2014 Citrix. Confidential.16 • Let’s now talk about a  popular feature of XenDesktop, Remote PC Access which allows employees the  flexibility and mobility of remoting into business applications located on their existing desktop from  any device. Remote PC Access has been a feature of XenDesktop for almost a year now. Customers love  the fact they can use this feature to connect to physical PC’s at their desktop, from their Receivers,  over HDX. One of the most requested feature has been the of Wake‐on‐LAN (WoL) support. In  XenDesktop 7.5, we now support WoL via Microsoft Systems Center • Why System Center ConfigMgr 2012 R2? Citrix and Microsoft have a rich history of partnership, and  this new area of integration demonstrates that continued commitment. It was also very apparent  through the course of customer conversations, that the bulk of Remote PC Access customers looking  for Wake on LAN integration were in the midst of a transition to, or planning on deploying ConfigMgr  2012 R2. By embracing ConfigMgr 2012 R2 in this way, it provides unique capabilities that only our two  companies can provide together.
  • 17. © 2014 Citrix. Confidential.17 HDX improves the experience of Citrix Receiver users working in supported Windows applications and  published server desktops on mobile devices. HDX includes a native interface control channel allowing  Windows Apps to be refactored for a touch experience while leveraging device features such as multi‐ touch gestures, native menu controls, camera and GPS support. Many touch features are available  natively in XenDesktop and do not require any application source code changes to activate.  Native touch features include:  • Automatic display of the keyboard when an editable field has the focus  • Windows combo box control replaced by larger picker control  • Multi‐touch gestures such as pinch and zoom  • Inertia‐sensed scrolling  • Touch pad or direct cursor navigation  Additional capabilities can be implemented using the HDX Windows Mobile Application SDK enabling  enterprise developers to update Windows applications just once for mobile devices using familiar  Windows programming languages. The SDK includes over 50 APIs. Examples of programmable mobility  enhancements include:

  • 21. © 2014 Citrix. Confidential.21 Citrix Storefront is the successor to Citrix Web Interface for XenApp and XenDesktop and helps IT enable  enterprise mobility – work and play from anywhere, from virtually any device. It also helps IT improve  enterprise security and simplify XenApp and XenDesktop deployments. StoreFront is essential for  managing multi‐site XenApp and XenDesktop deployments. It’s built on a modern, flexible and powerful  framework and now provides innovative tools for IT customization for XenApp and XenDesktop  deployments. Introduced in conjunction with XenApp/XenDesktop 7.5, transitioning to StoreFront 2.5 has never been  easier or more rewarding. Here are the highlights and look for accompanying blogs with more detail: An updated Receiver for HTML5 engine adds  breakthrough performance for zero install access to  business applications and desktops from popular browsers as well as Google Chrome devices. The new  HTML 5 Receiver also enhances the graphics experience for both 2D and 3D applications and provides a  very good audio‐video experience at significantly lower bandwidth than before. It also includes an  improved in‐session toolbar for clipboard and windows security desktop. Pass‐through Authentication to Receiver for Web enables users on a domain joined end points to open  Internet Explorer and access resources using Receiver for Web without an additional authentication step.  One of the most asked for features. 21
  • 22. © 2014 Citrix. Confidential.22 Smart Card Authentication to Receiver for Web enables Linux, Mac OSX, or Windows users to access  Receiver for Web using their smart cards for authentication. Domain‐joined Windows users with the  SSON service configured enter their pin only once. Mac, Linux, and non‐domain Windows users enter  their PIN for each app/desktop launch. NetScaler Gateway single smart card sign‐on to Receiver for Web. Storefront 2.0 introduced support for  native Receivers to sign in with a Smartcard via NetScaler Gateway. Storefront 2.5 enables users to access  Receiver for Web via NetScaler Gateway using their smart card. Domain‐joined Windows users arranged  for pass through authentication (SSON) enter their PIN only once. In all other cases, users will need to  enter their PIN for each app/desktop launch. Mandatory Applications automatically makes a specific set of apps or desktops available to all users.  Mandatory resources are silently added for each user. Works similarly to the existing “auto‐provisioned  apps” functionality but does not offer a way for Receiver for Web users to remove them. Administrators  can mark individual resources as mandatory (using the existing keyword mechanism in the  XenApp/XenDesktop admin console) with the keyword “mandatory” or configure a Store to make all the  resources mandatory. Anonymous (Unauthenticated) enables StoreFront to provide access to XenApp 6.5 sessions without  authenticating. Generally this is used where applications themselves require their own authentication.  Allows administrators to optionally make a specific Store support anonymous (unauthenticated) access. 22
  • 23. © 2014 Citrix. Confidential.23 Parallel resource enumeration.  Where Web Interface and earlier Storefront releases enumerate  resources by contacting each Delivery Controller in turn. Storefront 2.5 communicates to all providers at  the same time and aggregates responses when all have responded. Resource filtering by types or keywords enables you to filter which applications were shown to a user by  adding an artificial description element to the application name. In Receiver for Web, it has been  possible to filter out the display of either Applications or Desktops but the same level of control was not  available at the Store level. And last but not least the Store Customization SDK enables you to expose only apps or desktops to users  or selectively restrict access based on the user’s location, the type of devices the user has, or smart  access policies. While most simple filtering requirements should be handled by simple configuration  changes, some customers have complex business requirements that require custom logic to be applied  to the decision making process of showing resources to users and adjusting launch parameters. Stay  tuned for more details and example projects.
