The document discusses how insights from student data can be used to enact change. It provides examples of insights around student persistence, such as credits earned vs attempted and days enrolled before a term starts. The insights also examine the intersection of factors like race and income with outcomes. To make the insights actionable, the authors promote building a committee to oversee targeted interventions informed by the data.

Powerful predictors for all degree seeking students
1. credits attempted current term (students attempting over 6 credits have a greater chance of persisting)
2. average credits earned to average credits attempted ratio per term (earning 0.8 credits for every 1 credit attempted increases the chance of persistence)
3. average number of days enrolled before start of current term (35 to 40 days or longer increases chance of persistence)
When filtering by race we uncovered an interesting correlation b/w household income and African America students.
Logic holds that a students persistence is lower when coming from a lower income household vs. a higher but we had not expected was the adverse affect on persistence for students from middle income household incomes.
In this case, you notice the dip around $50-70k
While this was the #5 predictor for our Black population, it was #137 for the White population
What we found upon pairing income & GPA was:
Black students falling in the $50-75k bracket, the identified target group is 2.0-2.3
White students, there is no real target audience
Team together – committee (positions) that can take actions on insights gained from the meetings of this committee. The committee contains representatives from the designated departments, these individuals have the authority to make decisions and go back to their designated areas to implement or gather additional material to bring back to the next meeting to follow through on the following meeting.
