1. Mise en scene:
My mise en scene job role consisted on two main characters as stated in my planning.
One main character is a young teenage girl from an afro-Caribbean
background whilst the second main character is of white British
ethnicity.
I decided for my character – played by Jade Craig – to have a
‘street’ look in order to fit the label of a working class teenager. By
this I decided for this character to have a part of her hair shaven (as
shown in a picture to the right) and wearing a pair of Nike trainers
and casual dark jacket.
My other protagonist – played by
Clarissa Thompson – I decided to play
as a middle class character. I
therefore had the character hold an
iPhone as a prop as wear as a shirt,
sweater and small booted heels to
convey a casual yet smart look,
opposed to the other main character.
I also wanted this character to appear
‘snobby’ and uninterested in other
people’s decisions being made for group plans. To portray this
I had the character make specific gestures and movement to
convey her attitude. I wanted to middle class actress to
perform this way to exemplify that
working class Caribbean ‘street’ girls
are not all stereotypically the same.
