Household Hazardous Waste Disposal
• Small residue quantities of commonly used hazardous household
waste should be absorbed by using kitty litter, newspapers, or
other absorbent material prior to discarding to prevent leakage.
These household items may include bleach, paint, paint thinner,
ammonia, metal polishers, wood finishing products, pesticides and
pool chemicals. Highly corrosive liquids (e.g.,
Hydrofluoric/Sulfuric/Muriatic Acids, etc.) or highly flammable
liquids (e.g., gasoline) should never be disposed of in the NYC
  Municipal Waste Stream.

• -DSNY Rules and Regulations
