2. Vision
• ECM as a set of principles applies in any
infrastructure scenario.
• Cloud provides a more secure and less
intensive support apparatus.
• Existing ECM solutions can be either
migrated or become extended to the cloud.
3. ECM Theory
• “E” Enterprise
• “CM” Adoption of a single repository for Content Management is a myth.
• The value of content diminishes after transactions are completed.
• TCM – Transactional Content Management.
• 18% have achieved enterprise wide adoption of DM/RM system.
• 75% have multiple ECM systems.
• Only 3% have turned off their Network File Shares, although 34% are
keen to turn them off.
• 61% reported that half of their content exists outside of legacy ECM,
stored in LOB systems like ERP.
4. ECM in a Mobile World
• PC Sales are projected to continue to decline 7.6%
in 2013 over 2012.
• Tablet Sales are projected to steadily
increase, 2013 set for 69% over 2012.
• Over half of those surveyed are comfortable with
content being accessed on BYOD or company
issued mobile devices.
• Only 11% of ECM users have mobile access to
content.
5. ECM Pivot
• Mature: The technology has been deployed
in most Fortune 1000 companies, Nonprofit, and Government entities.
• Consolidation: Largely completed but some
companies are still targets.
• Process Control: Most large deployments
are very process and transaction centric.

8. Scale & Access
• Cloud infrastructure and SaaS applications
scale quickly.
• Multi-Tenant Architecture
• Access to cloud apps is ubiquitous in a
mobile environment.
• Standard authentication models are
available with SAML 2.0, OAuth and direct
API.
9. Cloud Market $131B*
• Disruption: Every corner of business is
being touched by emerging cloud
technologies and products.
• Consumer Grade: It used to be that
enterprise apps avoided a consumer style
UX, that’s flipping 180%.
• Growth: will be exponential as services
continue to mature.

14. Background
• I-502 establishes precedent for
growing, processing, retailing and
possessing marijuana in the State of
Washington.
• The State has legacy ECM and processes
liquor licenses using Oracle.
• Truly paperless application processing was
desired as a future state.
17. Process Description
• Workflow Packages created in Oracle.
• eForm Application package sent and WF
package placed in hold queue.
• Applicant completes eForm.
• eForm injected into existing workflow
package and routed to licensing specialist.
19. Form Design Process
• Cloud
collaboration
was used to
revise draft
forms.
• All
communication
was real
time, providing
a more efficient
form design
process.

Some Key Findings from AIIM 2013 Study:18% have achieved enterprise wide adoption of DM/RM system.75% have multiple ECM systems.Only 3% have turned off their Network File Shares, although 34% are keen to turn them off.61% reported that half of their content exists outside of legacy ECM, stored in LOB systems like ERP.
This is bad news for Legacy ECM that is largely built around the PC Market with Fat Client software packages that are designed for Desktop OS software. Add to that the growing demographic shifts in workforce and you have a dull future for ECM as we knew it in the 80’s & though 2000.
The traditional models of enterprise content managementTypically Capital Expense IT project budgeted anywhere from $60K - $1M+Software licensing | Hardware procurement | Software Maintenance & UpgradesDepending on scope a project can take between 30 days – 6mos.+Traditional on Premise legacy ECM solutions are very mature in terms of functionality and compliance requirements
Cloud Content Management is more about collaboration and accessibility There are providers that have been offering ASP or Hosted solutions that are similar to On Premise Legacy ECM are just ‘Cloud Washed’The newer companies that have not come from a traditional background are focused on more open and simple use casesThat is not to say they aren’t secure, scalable and integrated. In fact in many cases it is easier to integrate because of their web services architecture. They are easier to use than the traditional ECM platforms that are often complicated and can require many hours of specialized training to use. CCM solutions are not as feature bloated as traditional onPremise ECM and lack some of the compliance certifications needed in some industriesThe major difference I have found is that general users like to use CCM because it looks and acts like social software
