2. Bbc1: Bbc1 aims to appeal to the majority of audiences , bbc1 believe the whole family
can sit down and watch a drama on bbc1 and enjoy it as it features less violent scenes
and no strong language is featured, bbc1 themselves have said that ‘BBC One is about
aiming for the very best in production values, story-telling and talent in all genres. We
want a rich-mix of programmes with scale and ambition that will appeal across the range
to everyone in the UK.’ This shows that they’re aiming to appeal to all audiences. Bbc1
shows dramas that are from the past also, for example downtown abbey which shows
they want a large mix of dramas so all audiences can be entertained by at least one
drama.
Bbc 3: Bbc3 is aimed at the younger generation of people, aged between 16-34, the
content on the channel will be much different, it features a mix of genres and has
increased violence or strong language, which entices younger people to watch them as
they will find more explicit content more enjoyable to watch compared to something
aimed at the whole family for example doctor who.
3. Channel 4: Channel 4 similar to the bbc in the sense that they aim to appeal
to a wide audience by showing various different programmes which don’t
contain strong language however a bit more violence is shown compared
to the bbc . They tend to show dramas which can appeal to a wide range of
people, for example Southcliffe can be enjoyed by all members . However
channel 4 doesn’t show period dramas as such and focuses more on
modern days for its dramas therefore it is slightly specific with it’s target
audience while still maintaining the aim of focusing on the family.
E4: the type of dramas shown on e4 are usually aimed at younger people
for example misfits, this features adult themes and stronger language
which makes it more interesting for the younger people. E4 would be
aimed for people between 14-34. Another popular programme on e4 was
The Inbetweeners which featured strong language and would not be
suitable for the whole family to watch particularly younger children.
