4. Visitando Cividale si tocca con mano la
storia, tanto ne è densa questa piccola
città. Si tratta della storia con la “S”
maiuscola, che ha visto intorno al 50 a.C.
la fondazione della Forum Iulii, da cui il
nome Friuli poi esteso all’intera Regione.
La città divenne capitale del ducato con
i Longobardi nel 568; in seguito i Franchi
ne mutarono il nome in Civitas Austriae,
da cui il nome Cividale. Nel frattempo
era iniziato il periodo del Patriarcato e dal
1420 al 1797 ci fu il dominio veneziano.
La città è giunta fino ai nostri giorni
conservando le più importanti
testimonianze artistiche e culturali del
suo ricchissimo passato.
Città romana, longobarda, patriarcale
e veneta... sono i quattro volti di Cividale
che il visitatore può ammirare ancor oggi
in un indimenticabile viaggio nel tempo.

THE 4 FACES OF CIVIDALE. FROM 50 B.C.,
CIVIDALE LAND OF HISTORY AND STORIES
When you visit Cividale you can feel its history,
there is so much of it in this small town. It is history
with a capital “H”, which at around 50 B.C. saw
the foundation of Forum Iulii (Julius Forum),
which then gave its name to the entire region of
Friuli. The town became the capital of the duchy
under the Longobards in 1568; then the Franks
changed its name to Civitas Austriae, which then
became Cividale. In the mean time the Patriarchal
period had began and from 1420 to 1797 there was
the Venetian domination. The town has preserved
the most important artistic and cultural features of
its extremely wealthy past. A Roman, Longobard,
Patriarchal and Venetian town… the four different
faces of Cividale, which visitors can still admire
today in an unforgettable journey through time.

Besucht man Cividale, kann man sich persönlich von
der Geschichte überzeugen, die in dieser kleinen
Stadt überall gegenwärtig ist. Es handelt sich dabei
um Geschichte, die ihre Wurzeln in der Antike hat
und die um 50 v. Chr. mit der Gründung des Forum
Iulii ihren Anfang fand; deshalb der Name Friuli
(Friaul), der später auf die gesamte Region übertragen
wurde. Die Stadt wurde mit den Langobarden
Hauptstadt des Herzogtums; später änderten die
Franken den Namen in Civitas Austriae, daher der
Name Cividale. Inzwischen hatte die Zeit des
Patriarchats begonnen und von 1420 bis 1797
dauerte die venezianische Herrschaft an. Die Stadt
bewahrt bis in unsere Tage die wichtigsten
künstlerischen und kulturellen Zeugnisse ihrer äußerst
reichen Vergangenheit. Römisch, langobardisch,
patriarchalisch und venezianisch... vier Gesichter
Cividales, die der Besucher auch heute noch in
einer unvergesslichen Zeitreise bewundern kann.

5. The Devil’s Bridge offers an attractive view with
an interesting legend linked to it: in exchange for
making the construction of the bridge easier, the
Devil asked for the soul of the first person to
cross it. With their wise astuteness, the Cividalesi
(the inhabitants of Cividale) allowed a cat to first
cross the bridge, thus saving human souls.
If the view from the heights of the bridge are
breathtaking, the view from the below isn’t any
less impressive.
Those who are interested, can open an anonymous
door, go down some steps and unexpectedly
find themselves inside another world, in the
Celtic Hypogeum. Down the rapid staircase we
reach a room with three charming masks
sculptured into the walls are located and the
function of which is still uncertain. The scholars
are divided as to the role of the place as well:
Celtic funeral purposes? Roman gaol?
So eindrucksvoll wie der Besuch der Teufelsbrücke
ist auch die mit ihr verbundene Legende: der
Teufel habe, als Gegenleistung für die
Vergünstigungen beim Bau der Brücke, die Seele
desjenigen gefordert, der sie als erstes überquere.
Die Bewohner Cividales hätten als erstes einen
Hund die Brücke überqueren lassen, und so durch
eine List die menschlichen Seelen verschont.
Die Brücke bietet ein atemberaubendes Panorama,
aber auch von unten ist die Aussicht nicht weniger
aufregend. Wer Kuriositäten liebt wird, nachdem
er ein unbedeutendes Tor geöffnet hat und eine
Freitreppe hinuntergegangen ist, unversehens
in eine andere Welt katapultiert: das Keltische
Hypogäum. Über ein kleines Treppchen gelangt
man in einen Raum in dessen Wände drei
eindrucksvolle Maskaronen gehauen sind, deren
Bedeutung noch ungewiss ist.
Die Wissenschaftler sind auch in Hinblick auf
den Zweck der Stätte geteilter Meinung: eine
keltische Grabkammer? Ein römischer Kerker?

Suggestiva è la vista dal ponte del Diavolo,
suggestiva è la leggenda ad esso legata: il Diavolo
avrebbe chiesto, in cambio della facilitazione nella
costruzione del ponte, l’anima del primo essere
che vi fosse transitato. La furbizia dei Cividalesi
avrebbe fatto transitare per primo sul ponte un
cane, risparmiando così le anime umane. Se il
panorama dall’alto del ponte è mozzafiato, non
meno emozionante è la sua visione dal basso.
Chi ama le curiosità, può, aprendo un anonimo
portone e scendendo una scalinata, trovarsi
improvvisamente proiettato in un altro mondo,
nell’Ipogeo Celtico. Scesa una ripida scaletta si
giunge in una camera sulle cui pareti sono
scolpiti tre suggestivi mascheroni la cui funzione
resta ancora incerta.
Gli studiosi si dividono anche per la finalità del
luogo: uso funerario celtico? Carcere romana?

6. Anche una semplice costruzione, come la
Casa Medievale merita una visita. Si tratta
di un edificio costruito nel Trecento e
rimasto inalterato nelle sue linee essenziali.
Di particolare interesse è la Basilica di
Santa Maria Assunta, distrutta da un
terremoto nel 1448 e ricostruita in epoche
successive. Nel vasto ambiente il visitatore
che entra resta colpito dagli innumerevoli
tesori conservati, come la splendida pala
d’argento di Pellegrino II, che fu patriarca
tra il 1195 e il 1204, un capolavoro
dell’oreficeria medievale.
Cividale merita una visita anche per una
semplice passeggiata tanto sono suggestive
e romantiche le sue vie. Perché non
soffermarsi a guardare il panorama da un
punto di vista alternativo, da un belvedere
lungo il Natisone? Oppure sostare nella
vasta piazza Paolo Diacono contornata da
edifici di epoche e stili diversi?
Perché non percorrere via Monastero
Maggiore fino al bellissimo portale
rinascimentale che immette nel Monastero
di S. Maria in Valle, ricchissimo di storia e
di un prezioso presepe ottocentesco?
Even a simple construction such as the MMedieval
House deserves a visit. It is a building that was
built in the 14th Century and still preserves its
original simple shape. Of particular interest is
the SSanta Maria Assunta’s Basilica, it was
destroyed in 1448 by an earthquake and rebuilt
in the following periods. Visitors to this large
building are impressed by the countless treasures
it holds, such as the splendid silver altarpiece
by Pellegrino II, patriarch from 1195 to 1204,
a masterpiece of medieval jewellery.
Cividale is worth a visit even just for a simple
stroll as its streets are so characteristic, charming
and romantic. Why not stop to admire the view
from a different spot, from one of the llookouts
of the Natisone River? Or else stop in the vast
Paolo Diacono Square which is surrounded by
buildings of different periods and styles?
Why not walk along VVia Monastero Maggiore
as far as the extremely beautiful Renaissance
portal which leads to the MMonastery of S. Maria
in Valle, steeped in history with a rare and
precious 19th century crib?
Auch ein einfaches Bauwerk wie das
Mittelalterliche Haus ist einen Besuch wert. Es
handelt sich um ein im 14. Jahrhundert errichtetes
Gebäude, das in seinen wesentlichen Zügen
unverändert geblieben ist. Von besonderem
Interesse ist die im Jahre 1448 von einem
Erdbeben zerstörte BBasilika Santa Maria Assunta,
welche in verschiedenen Epochen und Stilen
wieder aufgebaut wurde. Betritt man den
weiten Raum, so ist man von den unzähligen
hier bewahrten Schätzen äußerst beeindruckt.
Einer von diesen ist die prächtige silberne
Altartafel von Pellegrino II, der zwischen 1195
und 1204 Patriarch war; ein Meisterwerk der
mittelalterlichen Goldschmiedekunst.
Cividale ist auch einen Besuch wert, um nur
einen einfachen Spaziergang zu unternehmen,
so faszinierend und auch romantisch sind die
Straßen der Stadt. So kann man bisweilen stehen
bleiben, um das Panorama von einer anderen
Stelle, von einem AAussichtspunkt entlang des
Natisone aus zu genießen; oder an der weiten
Piazza Paolo Diacono einen Halt einlegen,
welche von Gebäuden mit verschiedenen
Stilrichtungen aus unterschiedlichen Epochen
umgeben ist. Man kann auch die VVia Monastero
Maggiore entlanggehen, bis zum wunderschönen
Renaissancetor des KKlosters S. Maria in Valle,
ein geschichtsträchtiges Gebäude mit einer
wertvollen Krippe aus dem 19. Jahrhundert.

Passando poi sotto Porta Brossana
e Porta Patriarcale si può giungere alla
piccola chiesa dei Santi Pietro e Biagio.
In centro i monumenti da visitare sono
tanti: da Palazzo de’ Nordis al Palazzo
Comunale, dalle lontane origini; non
mancano i piccoli gioielli, come l’antico
pozzo di Callisto, dietro l’abside del
Duomo, oppure il pavimento musivo
di una villa romana del I secolo d.C.
nella corte interna della sede municipale.
Then passing through BBrossana Gate and PPatriarcale
Gate it is possible to reach the small church of
Saint Pietro and Biagio. The centre provides
numerous monuments to visit: from NNordis Palace
to CComunale Palace, then there are small gems
such as the ancient WWell of Callisto, behind the
apse of the Cathedral or the mmosaic floor of a
Roman villa dating back to the 1st century A.C.
in the internal court of the town hall.
Nachdem man dann unter der PPorta Brossana und
der PPorta Patriarcale hergegangen ist, kommt man
zu der kleinen Kirche Santi Pietro e Biagio. Im
Zentrum gibt es zahlreiche Denkmäler zu besichtigen:
vom PPalazzo Nordis bis hin zum RRathaus mit
antiken Ursprüngen; es fehlt auch nicht an kleinen
Kunstschätzen, wie das antike CCallixtus-Taufbecken
hinter der Apsis des Doms, oder der MMosaikboden
einer römischen Villa aus dem 1. Jahrhundert n.
Chr. im Innenhof des Ratshausgebäudes.

THE LONGOBARDS. THE CAPITAL OF
THE FIRST LONGOBARD DUCHY IN ITALY
Cividale preserves important monumental, artistic and
cultural testimony of a Longobard civilization. Here the
centres of power were to be found in the Gastaldaga,
where the king’s estates were administered, as well as
the Complesso Episcopale, the religious centre. Both of
these centres, heart of the Longobard Cividale, conserve
rich testimonies of those times. The Gastaldaga included
the LLongobard Temple namely, the Oratory of
Santa Maria in Valle, a unique historic and artistic
monument, and, as it seems, steeped in mystery
and still a subject of study today. At the time, the
building was lavishly decorated with different types of
marble, mosaics on a gold background, and a long line
of saints on three sides: the renowned stuccowork
has charmed the visitors for the past three centuries
for their extraordinary beauty.

Cividale bewahrt bedeutende Denkmäler und artistische
und kulturelle Zeugnisse der langobardischen Kultur.
Die langobardischen Machtzentren waren die
Gastaldaga, wo die Besitztümer des Königs verwaltet
wurden, und die bischöfliche Anlage, welche zugleich
geistlicher Mittelpunkt war. Diese beiden Zentren,
Herzstück des langobardischen Cividale, bewahren
reiche Zeugnisse jener Zeit. Zu der Gastaldaga gehörte
der sogenannte LLangobardische Tempel, auch als
Oratorium Santa Maria in Valle bekannt. Es handelt
sich dabei um ein geschichtlich-künstlerisches Unikum,
und genau deshalb ist es geheimnisumwoben und wird
auch heute noch untersucht. Damals wies die Aula
eine Ausschmückung aus Marmor, Mosaiken auf
vergoldetem Untergrund und einer Heiligenprozession
auf drei Seiten der Aula vor: der weltberühmte Stuck
bezaubert die Betrachter seit fast dreizehn
Jahrhunderten durch seine außerordentliche Schönheit.

Cividale conserva rilevanti testimonianze
monumentali, artistiche e culturali della
civiltà Longobarda. In essa i centri del
potere coincidevano con la Gastaldaga,
dove si amministravano i possedimenti
del re, e il Complesso Episcopale, centro
religioso. Entrambi questi centri, cuore
della Cividale Longobarda, conservano
ricche testimonianze di quel tempo.
Faceva parte della Gastaldaga il
Tempietto Longobardo o Oratorio di
Santa Maria in Valle, un unicum storico
artistico, e, proprio in quanto tale, ricco
di mistero e ancor oggi oggetto di studio.
All’epoca l’aula si presentava decorata
da marmi, mosaici su fondo dorato
e una teoria di sante lungo tre lati del
complesso: i celeberrimi stucchi
incantano gli osservatori da quasi tredici
secoli per la loro straordinaria bellezza.

8. Ricche testimonianze longobarde sono
conservate nei due musei della città:
il Museo Cristiano del Duomo raccoglie
pregevolissime opere scultoree tra cui
l’Ara di Ratchis e il Battistero di Callisto.
Meritevole di una visita è il tesoro del
duomo, preziosa collezione di suppellettili
sacre, e la quadreria, con importanti opere
del Veronese e del Pordenone.
Se Cividale è un vero e proprio gioiello,
una delle sue pietre più preziose è il Museo
Archeologico Nazionale che ha sede nel
Palazzo dei Provveditori Veneti. Difficile
descrivere con poche parole ciò che esso
raccoglie; dai reperti romani, paleocristiani,
altomedievali, a materiali più moderni.
Da non perdere le collezioni longobarde,
rara testimonianza dell’artigianato,
della vita quotidiana, dei corredi funebri,
dell’antico popolo.
Extensive testimony of the Longobards is preserved
in two museums in the town: the CChristian Museum
of Cathedral houses highly prestigious sculptures
including the celebrated Ratchis altar and the
Baptistery of Calixtus. The treasure of the
Cathedral is worth a visit. It includes a precious
collection of sacred archaeological treasures and a
picture gallery with important works from Verona
and Pordenone. If Cividale is a true gem, one of
its most precious jewels is the NNational
Archaeology Museum situated in Provveditori
Veneti Palace. It is difficult to describe its contents
in just a few words: it includes Roman, early
Christian and early Medieval artefacts, as well
as more modern items. The Longobard collections
should not be missed, a rare testimony of
craftsmanship, of day-to-day life, funeral objects
of the ancient population.
Reiche langobardische Zeugnisse werden in den beiden
Museen der Stadt bewahrt: das CChristliche Museum
des Doms umfasst sehr wertvolle bildhauerische Werke,
darunter der berühmte Ratchis-Altar und das Callixtus-
Baptisterium. Auch der Domschatz mit seinen
wertvollen Kirchengeräten und der Bildersammlung
mit bedeutenden Werken des Veronese und des
Pordenone ist einen Besuch wert. Ist Cividale ein
regelrechtes Juwel, so ist eines seiner wertvollsten
Steine das AArchäologische Nationalmuseum im Palazzo
dei Provveditori Veneti (Palast der venetischen
Aufsichtsbeamten). Es ist schwierig seine Sammlungen
in wenige Worte zu fassen; sie gehen von römischen,
frühchristlichen und hochmittelalterlichen Fundstücken
bis hin zu modernen Exemplaren. Nicht entgehen lassen
sollte man sich die langobardischen Sammlungen, welche
seltene Zeugnisse des Handwerks, des Alltagslebens
und der Grabbeilagen dieses antiken Volkes sind.

Darbietungen auf der Piazza während des Mittelfests
Durante il corso dell’anno sono molte le
manifestazioni e gli eventi che colorano
e riempiono le vie e le piazze della città.
Il 6 gennaio, nel Duomo, si celebra la
Messa dello Spadone, cerimonia ricca
di contenuti religiosi e politici, di
tradizione plurisecolare. Lo spadone
usato nella celebrazione apparteneva al
patriarca Marquardo di Randeck e risale
al 1366. Dopo il rito si snoda per le vie
la suggestiva rievocazione storica
dell’ingresso a Cividale dell’insigne
patriarca, con un ricchissimo corteo in
costume medievale. A Pasqua e Pasquetta:
il Truc, tradizionale gioco cittadino che
ha per protagoniste le uova colorate.
Molto noto è il Mittelfest, che si svolge
nel mese di luglio; si tratta di un
Festival di prosa, musica, danza, poesia,
arti visive e marionette dei paesi della
Mitteleuropea.

TO MITTELEUROPEAN CULTURES
During the year, many processions and events fill and
enliven the streets and squares in the town. On the 6th
of January in the Cathedral, the MMass of the Broadsword,
is celebrated and is a ceremony that is rich religious and
political content and centuries-old tradition. The broadsword
used during the ceremony belonged to patriarch Marquardo
di Randeck and dates back to 1366. Then this ritual moves
to the streets with a hhistoric commemoration of the entry
to Cividale and arrival of the illustrious patriarch with a
colourful procession in medieval costume. On Easter and
Easter Monday: the TTruc, the traditional game of Cividale,
takes place, with coloured eggs as the protagonists. The
now renowned MMittelfest, which takes place in the month
of July, is a festival of prose, music, dance, poetry, visual
arts and marionettes of countries in central Europe.

Im Laufe des Jahres finden viele Veranstaltungen und
Ereignisse statt, welche die Straßen der Stadt füllen und
farbenfroh gestalten. Am 6. Januar wird die bberühmte
Schwertmesse (Messa dello Spadone) gefeiert, eine
Feierlichkeit mit religiösem und politischem Hintergrund,
der eine mehrere Jahrhunderte lange Tradition
zugrundeliegt. Das bei der Zeremonie verwendete große
Schwert gehörte dem Patriarchen Markwart von Randeck
und geht auf das Jahr 1366 zurück. Nach dem Ritus
erfolgt die eindrucksvolle hhistorische Nachstellung des
Einzug des großen Patriarchen in die Stadt, mit einem
üppigen Umzug in mittelalterlichen Kostümen. An Ostern
und am Ostermontag: das ““Truc”-Spiel, ein traditionelles
Spiel, das mit gefärbten Eiern und ausschließlich in
Cividale gespielt wird. Allgemein bekannt ist das
Mittelfest, das im Monat Juli stattfindet; bei diesem
Festival dreht es sich um Prosa, Musik, Tanz, Dichtung,
visuelle Künste und Marionetten aus Mitteleuropa.

10. In August, there is another Medieval event: the PPalio
di San Donato. The ancient Palio is recalled, with a
splendid procession in traditional costume, and takes
place during the festival of the patron saint, San Donato.
Traditionally, and even today, the town neighbourhoods
organized tournaments of archery, crossbow, running
and many other games. Numerous festivals and events
enliven the town during the year. If you happen to be
in Cividale on the fourth Sunday of the month, you can
find the stalls of the DDevil’s Trunk, a rich market
of second-hand objects, while on Saturday morning you
can find the stalls of the weekly market.
Ein weiterer Sprung ins Mittelalter ist der ““Palio di San
Donato” im August. Ein prachtvoller Kostümumzug
erinnert an das antike Pferderennen, das während des
Patronatsfests stattfand. Damals wie auch heute
organisieren die Stadtviertel untereinander Turniere im
Bogenschießen, Armbrustschießen, Wettrennen und viele
andere Spiele. Zahlreiche Veranstaltungen und Ereignisse
bereichern die Stadt während des ganzen Jahres. Kommt
man am vierten Sonntag im Monat nach Cividale, stößt
man auf die Verkaufsstände der ““Teufelstruhe”, ein
reichhaltiger Trödelmarkt, während am Samstagmorgen
die Marktstände des Wochenmarkts anzutreffen sind.

il Palio di San Donato. Si rievoca, attraverso
un fastoso corteo in costume, l’antico palio
che si svolgeva durante la festa del patrono.
Allora come oggi i borghi cittadini
organizzavano tra loro tornei di tiro con
l’arco, balestra, gare di corsa e molti altri
giochi. Numerose sono le manifestazioni
e gli eventi che arricchiscono la città durante
l’anno; se si viene a Cividale la quarta
domenica del mese ci si trova tra le bancarelle
del Baule del Diavolo, ricco mercatino
d’antiquariato, mentre il sabato mattina le
bancarelle sono quelle del mercato settimanale.

I COLORI DI CIVIDALE: CIELI AZZURRI,
COLLINE VERDI, VITIGNI DORATI
Se Cividale è densa di arte, cultura ed
enogastronomia, i suoi dintorni non
sono da meno. Basta percorrere pochi
chilometri per trovarsi immersi in
nuove realtà dalle forti suggestioni.
Che si viaggi in auto o in bici ci si
immerge in un paesaggio caratterizzato
dai dolci pendii collinari modellati
dal lavoro di generazioni di viticoltori.
A questi paesaggi si alternano i boschi
e seguendo il fiume che attraversa
Cividale si incontrano piccoli centri
ricchi di tradizioni e natura: sono le

Nel vicino Comune di Prepotto si
erge il complesso del Santuario di
Castelmonte, dalle antiche origini,
che conserva la venerata statua della
Madonna con Bambino del secolo XV
e centinaia di ex voto, molti dei quali
risalenti al Cinquecento.

Cividale abounds in art, culture and enogastronomy just
like the surrounding area. You only have to travel a few
kilometres to be surrounded by new realities that are
all extremely attractive. Whether you travel by bicycle
or car you can admire the characteristic landscape with
its gentle slopes moulded by the work of generations
and generations of vine-growers. These landscapes are
alternated by forests and by following the river that
crosses Cividale, it is possible to encounter small towns
that are rich in tradition and nature: these are the VVallys
of the Natisone. In the nearby municipality of Prepotto
stands the ancient SSanctuary of Castelmonte, which
preserves the venerated statue of the Madonna and
Child, dating back to the 15th century and hundreds of
votive offerings, many dating back to the 16th century.

Cividale ist reich an Kunst, Kultur und Önogastronomie
und die Umgebung steht der Stadt in nichts nach. Man
braucht nur wenige Kilometer zurücklegen, um in neue
eindrucksvolle Ambiente einzutauchen.Ob Sie mit dem
Auto oder mit dem Fahrrad unterwegs sind: Sie werden
in eine Landschaft eintauchen, welche von den durch die
Arbeit zahlreicher Weinbauergenerationen modellierten,
sanft abfallenden Hängen gekennzeichnet ist. Diese
Landschaften wechseln sich mit weiten Waldflächen ab,
und dem Cividale durchquerenden Fluss folgend, stößt
man auf kleine, an Tradition und Natur reiche Orte: die
Täler des Natisone. In der nahe gelegenen Ortschaft
Prepotto befindet sich die Anlage des HHeiligtums von
Castelmonte mit äußerst antiken Ursprüngen, das die
hier verehrte Statue der Madonna mit Kind aus dem 15.
Jahrhundert und hunderte von Exvoto bewahrt, von
denen viele auf das 16. Jahrhundert zurückgehen.

The role of Cividale as a crossroad for different
populations and cultures has been a positive influence
on its enogastronomy, which has successfully obtained
the best from each tradition, using simple ingredients
in the best possible way. For soups, the essential
ingredients are beans, potatoes, barley and beetroot;
the most popular dishes are game, dried cured meat
such as Ossocollo (neck of pork), Soppressa, bacon
and Natisone trout. The trout of Natisone deserve a
mention as well. You must also try ffrico, a dish based
on an important ingredient: Montasio, a cheese that
can be enjoyed at its different stages of maturity, or
try some salami with onion and vinegar. You cannot
leave Cividale without taking home the typical cake of
the Vallys of Natisone: the GGubana, or small Strucchi.

Die Rolle Cividales als Kreuzungspunkt der Völker
und Kulturen hat die Önogastronomie positiv
beeinflusst, welche, unter Verwendung einfacher
und bestmöglich eingesetzter Zutaten, jeder
Tradition das Beste abgeschaut hat. In den Suppen
sind Bohnen, Kartoffeln und Rüben unabdingbare
Zutaten; gern gegessen werden Wild, Wurstwaren
wie Ossocollo oder Soppressa, Bauchspeck und
Schinken. Eine besondere Erwähnung sollen an
dieser Stelle die Forellen des Natisone finden. Nicht
versäumen sollte man den FFrico (ein Käse-Omelett),
ein Gericht dem der Montasio, ein in verschiedenen
Reifungsgraden genossener Käse, zugrundeliegt oder
auch die Salami mit Zwiebeln und Essig. Man sollte
Cividale nicht verlassen ohne den typischen Kuchen
der Natisone-Täler, den GGubana, oder die kleinen
Strucchi (ein Gebäck) mit nach Hause zu nehmen.

Il ruolo di Cividale come crocevia di popoli
e culture ha influito positivamente sulla sua
enogastronomia che ha attinto il meglio da
ogni tradizione, con l’uso di ingredienti
semplici e sfruttati nel miglior modo.
Nelle zuppe ingredienti caratteristici sono
i fagioli, le patate, l’orzo e le rape; le carni
preferite sono la cacciagione, gli insaccati
come l’ossocollo, la soppressa, la pancetta
e il prosciutto. Un discorso a parte
meriterebbero le trote del Natisone.
Imperdibile è il frico, piatto che ha come
base il Montasio, un formaggio che si gusta
in diverse stagionature, oppure il salame
con la cipolla e aceto. Non si può lasciare
Cividale senza portarsi a casa il dolce
tipico delle Valli del Natisone: la Gubana,
o i piccoli strucchi.

Il “Truc” tradizione ludica molto antica e peculiare
del Cividalese che si pratica rigorosamente solo
nelle giornate della Domenica e del Lunedì di
Pasqua. Si tratta di un gioco consistente nel far
scendere in un catino di sabbia digradante dalla
caratteristica struttura ovale le uova colorate,
seguendo regole precise e con l’intento di farle
toccare tra loco.

ludica of Cividale that is rigorously practiced only
on Easter Sunday and Monday. It is a game that
consists in lowering coloured eggs into a basin
with an oval shaped structure containing sand
that is sloping, following precise rules and with
the intention of getting them to touch one another.
