7. Grammar: the use of “想”
The character 想 is often used to mean “want / would like to” and
is usually followed by another verb. In English you say “I would
like tea”, but in Chinese you need to say “I would like to drink tea”.
Subject + 想 + Verb + food or drink
(I, you, Dad) (would like to) (eat, drink) (noodles, juice)
e.g. 我 想 吃 面条。
她 想 喝 果汁。

8. • In Chinese 想 can also mean “I’m missing
something”.
• For example: 我想家 = I’m missing home.
