Observation:
Traffic systems are in general siloed, optimization mainly
occurs within individual or public systems only
Hypothesis:
Lack of transparency on traffic situation, travel times & routes
prevents more travellers from switching to public transport
Solution:
Based upon real-time traffic situation (road and rail) intelligent
recommendations are provided on optimal travel mode, route
and timing.

Sophisticated public transport system with experience in
modern mgmt and green solutions
Challenging topology of Hamburg (many waterways,
bottlenecks) require innovative approaches
Good cooperation between the city and adjacent states/
counties
Planned highway build-out increases pressure to implement
such a solution
Federal funding budget just released for intelligent traffic
solutions

7. Outlook & Vision
Short-term objective:
Develop & implement a traffic solution that provides accurate,
real-time recommendations on optimal travel in pilot region
Mid-term objective:
Extend the solution from pilot region to Hamburg Metro Area
Long-term vision:
Develop a comprehensive traffic simulation program for the
whole Metropolitan area to predict travel situations, e.g. for
planned construction, public events etc.
